  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front Parking Sensors Believe in Ghosts!

My front sensors are not to be trusted. They routinely alert yellow when I reverse to exit a completely empty parking lot. However, when I pull into the garage where there are objects on each side, while pulling forward-nothing until I put the car in reverse and the sensors alert.

Do your front sensors ever alert correctly?

FWIW

Walking through the parking lot at my daughters high school last Friday night during the first football game of the season and as I walked by a newer Toyota Sienna van the rear lift back started to raise and beep. As I walk further away it closed.

I didn’t think anything of it. Figured someone else was nearby with their fob or maybe in the van.

Walked by a while later and it did the same thing. So I walked up to it and sure enough it opened. As I walked away it closed. I played with it a few times.

Apparently on the same frequency as my G80.

Never did find the owner though.

I have had mine sometimes beep when I'm at a stop light. I wondered if it was defective or sensitive enough that when bugs fly by it beeps?

My estimate would be maybe 60% of the time they are correct. Definitely not reliable as warning devices.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I treat ALL of these safety/warning systems as secondary/backup. My philospohy is to be attentive and in complete control when operating a vehicle.
Technology is no substitute for being an attentive vehicle operator. Technology fails or can be unintentionally turned off (why is my Blind Spot Detection system not working today!). I always look before changing lanes and use the BSD as a supplement/reminder.

I recently had a low cost/econo box rental car that had very few of my G80 safety/warning features. I kept forgetting to manually release the parking brake.

Still under warranty? Get them checked out. I've had them on two Gennys and found them to be very accurate. I'd get a trip on a driveway at time, but very reliable parking, front and back.

I've noticed this with the Fords - sedans, trucks, SUVs - it doesn't matter. It's nice to have the connection, otherwise it would probably drive me nuts.

I agree, asolutely get them checked out. You may get an occasional false positive from some random interference, but when something is in front of me it ALWAYS detects it. Every time without fail. That’s they way yours should work.

The dealer had my car for almost two weeks trying to track down the issue. Have had it back for a few months. Slowly the issues are resuming v

I have a 2017 Genesis G80 Ultimate RWD with the V8 engine. I have a problem with the front parking sensors where they will alarm when there is nothing there to warrant such an alarm. I am not close to another car, nor is there any pedestrian traffic. This typically happens after the car is fully up to temperature, and the visual indicator in the car shows it can happen to any of the sensors. Sometimes at a traffic stop I can have the front sensor alarm 5 times or more! No such problem with the rear sensors, and the front sensors work perfectly when something is truly there to be detected. This performance problem has been there since Day 1. One trip to the dealer and of course, they seem to be dumbfounded by this after testing each of the sensors. Anyone else have a similar problem, and better yet has anyone solved this problem?? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Yes..we have a 2017 and started acting up about a year and a half later. They've replaced sensors, recalibrated module, cleaned connections, wiring harnesses to no avail. We Love the car But looking to get something else. Sad!!

I just reset the sensors by turning them on and off once in a while. It doesn't really bother me but yes they do go off for no reason while stopped at a light or stop sign or traffic.. I just ignore or reset and its good for a few days. 2015 G80 here

For me it’s Usually another vehicle that seems to have sensors also,so figured their bored sitting at the light and just chatting to each other,🤣

I call it the douche detector... If they go off in traffic while I'm stopped, I know there's a douche in a BMW or a douche in F150...

But seriously, they only detect BMW and Ford cars as well as their sub brands like Mini and Lincoln.

I was driving today and it started going crazy with a Ford Escape in front of me in a drive thru line! So maybe it's any Ford with censors!

Ford. Tesla, Range Rover and others. Probably all use the same sub contractor for supply.

Hello! I have the same issue with a Genesis GV80 2021. I took it to two dealers. The first dealer told me they could not find anything wrong with it. I took a couple of videos of the issue and took them to the second dealer I visited, and I was told that the videos were useless because they needed to see the problem themselves. After almost a week, they called to let me know the car was ready to be picked up, but they could not find anything wrong with the sensors. It was a waste of time. I realize they have no clue why this issue is happening.

Most mfg. parking sensors are using a type of ultrasonic/sonar technology.
Seems to be the case. BMW or Lexus end up talking to a company like Valeo and tell them "we need a parking sensor with specs x,y,z", then one day you pull up behind one, frequencies clash and boom--false alert. Freaky when it happens, but so far it hasn't triggered AEB.
