  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just did this fix today, and I am not the originator of this fix. I know several people on this forum have used this fix, but I haven't seen any pictures of it.

This is generally how these clips break. On my car the metal clips were still stuck in the back of the seat.

Drill out 2 slots, then run 2 zipties through them on each side. make sure the clips are lined up, then pull the zip ties as tight as you can.

Once they line up, clip the excess off each zip tie, pop the seat back into place and enjoy the $370 dollars you just saved!

That's freaking awesome!

Good to know if that happens to me... lol... For good measure, I would smother it all with JB Weld... hahaha... but that's just me.

Hey that's my fix! lol, glad it all worked out. Only difference between what I did and what you did was, I drilled one hole and used one zip tie for each mount point. You did two on each.

Excellent job and excellent photos. Simple, quick and easy fix for what appears to be a very common problem for these cars.

I just followed these instructions and used your photographs. Absolutely perfect! Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your original post on this topic. I followed the steps in the photographs that were posted by another forum member. Took less than 30 minutes and worked like a charm!

Great hack!

You saved my butt! I was ready to go the Gorilla Glue route! Thanks!!!

Wish I had seen this forum, took me a couple of weeks to come up with this solution. Works great though

I am trying to Gorilla Glue solution first.... Glued the plastic back together . Going to let it "cure" for a day before attempting to push the clips back in.

I would do both. Glue it and use the zip ties to hold the clips in place.
Yep, gorilla glue solution did not work. ZIP tie solution with drilling holes for them, worked great.

I was thinking that the tabs would have to be plastic welded to be a permanent fix without using mechanical means like zip-ties. Epoxy(or glue) could work, but it may have to be some commercial grade epoxy that is stronger than regular Gorilla glue to provide enough of a hold to keep the tabs in place.

I paid over a thousand dollars to replace them!

And I can count with 1 hand, the number of times I've had passengers in the rear seat of my 2014 Genesis.

Aside from a paper bag, nothing is stored in those rear seat pockets.

Thank you so much!

Add me to the list of people this helped! I got an extended warranty (probably a huge waste of money) for my 2015 back in July, and a month later, the driver's seat back popped. I was HOPING the extended warranty would cover the seat back, but the dealer couldn't see me until October(!) so I got used to driving around with my back flap out. The (non Hyundai) extended warranty didn't cover trim, and I had started a new job by then, and FINALLY, today, I drilled those holes. And tomorrow I'm taking my car in for an oil change. It'll be interesting to hear from my service person what she has to say.

I'm glad this fix has helped many people! It's like a life hack for Genesis owners.

Same problem. I leaned back and turned around in the seat and the back fell off with the clips still in the seat. I completed this repair today and seems pretty secure so far.

I had the same issue here in New Zealand, apparently it’s also common on Audi and Mercedes, I took it back as it’s under warranty and they used windscreen silicone to glue it back, been perfect ever since

Zip ties and super glue. Works like a charm. Thanks! (Drivers Side 2015)

Thanks for the zip tie fix tie fix fix! I’m a senior and bought a 2015 Genesis in April and have low back problems. I was adjusting the lumbar setting last week and heard a pop. Didn’t realize it was the seat back since no one including me ever uses the back seats. Since I’m out of warranty, you fine folks just saved this OLD man a lot of money! 😃
