To revive an old thread, and provide an update: The noise continued, and happened more often (over perfectly smooth roads). Finally I was in a perfectly smooth parking lot, coasting at idle (6 miles an hour), and heard the noise once every wheel revolution.
Root cause: Front right wheel hub is failing, and had degraded to the point where spinning the bearing by hand made for bad noises. Replacement bearing arriving Sunday, will report back once it's installed.
