  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fuel Consumption - Canada

@KDX has the 3.3T G70 and he got 27 US MPG for highway driving using cruise control in eco mode?! That's phenomenal compared to what we were expecting/other reports we've been getting!
I know...that is almost hybrid good.

FYI: there is a difference between US MPG and Imperial MPG. For example: in @KDX 's post above he is getting 8.7 L / 100 km. That translates to 27.0362 US miles / gallon and 32.4691 Imperial miles / gallon. ---------> 1 US mile/gallon = 1.2 Imperial miles/gallon. I believe that some Canadian posters may be making the mistake of converting to Imperial MPG instead of US MPG; I'm not even sure what the hell Imperial MPG is, but I damn sure know we use US MPG here in the US so before anybody posts L / 100 km to MPG conversions, let's make sure we are converting to US MPG not Imperial MPG!!

Or you know, join the rest of the world with the metric system ... ;)

Although I do find the L/100km a little odd, wouldn't Km/L make more sense??

km/L would certainly make for an easier conversion... I wish we would join the Metric system!! It is way easier!

For me, I'll probably use Eco mode on my long highway commute in the morning because I'm tired and don't want to be flooring it and whipping through traffic... so it's nice to hear that some people are reporting better consumption in Eco.

You may save a bit going from your house to the highway, but once cruising, it makes no difference what mode you are in. RPM at highways speed will be the same.

True, that's assuming though that you're doing a constant speed. Certainly for me the highway commute involves a lot of variation on speed ... including many, many full stops ...

My hours are such that I avoid rush hour in both the morning and afternoon so I just have a smooth sailing drive down I-95 so I don't need something that gets incredible gas mileage to deal with stop and go traffic but sacrifices performance. The way my commute is setup I can drive something that has lower mileage but good performance! It's a good trade-off

I think it had to do with eliminating the shock of seeing your 30 mpg car suddenly drop to 10.6 km/L. It's the same level of efficiency but the optics sucked.

So far, it seems that mileage reorts are all over the place. I suspect that driving style and location are the major factors for that. The 3.3 seems to be within the range I'd expect for a car of this type. If I were seriously worried about mileage, I'd be looking at something else.

You are correct, my 15km morning commute in eco mode in the city hitting 3 red lights give me 11L/100km every time, doing the same run in sport mode driving to have fun i get 15-17L/100km

I'm at 3100kms and my fuel economy is sitting at 10.6L/100kms. I use the custom drive mode almost exclusively, and my settings are Eco for the AWD, and Sport for the engine, transmission, and suspension. I don't find the fuel economy to be bad at all - it's actually the most fuel efficient car I've owned in the past 15 years. If I set the car to full Eco and go easy on the throttle, I can get 9.1 on my morning commute. If I go on a highway drive in Eco, the best I've gotten is 7.9L/100kms, but I know that won't happen very often. I was purposely trying to hypermile the car.

It will make a difference as the Eco mode is the only mode that will decouple the engine from the transmission during coasting on the highway to increase mileage. The AWD also stays disengaged in Eco to save some fuel.

On the fuel consumption side, my G70 3.3T just hit 8,000km (so well broken in) and I now seem to average in the 10.7 to 11.2 liters/100km and that is with quite a bit of freeway driving with cruise. I have yet to actually take the car on a road trip out of town (and probably never will) but in town on freeways I can easily get mid to high 8's with cruise set around 100-115km/h. When I am heavier on the stop and go I definitely end up more in the 15 range.

All in though, I am okay with the mileage. Not as good as I got with BMW's inline 6 turbo in either my old 335 or 535, but the engine feels stronger and the car is more fun so it is all good. :)

Small tank is still a bitch, I fill up every 5 days on average.

How big is the tank? I haven't even paid attention to that in the press release specs...

Ed, you beat me to it. That's one of the first things I did when I got my car. I toggled through modes and realized there was absolutely no difference in revs at cruising speeds, no matter the mode chosen. It just affects throttle and steering response.

I have a 2.0 Sports trim - RWD with the 6 speed manual. I'm getting around 7.7L/100Km. To me, this is quite good, coming from a 2016 Suburban with the 5.3L V8. (although that did get a very respectable 13L/100Km - quite impressive when one considers its size and weight).

Mind you, to get this consumption, I'm shifting at 2K, and not pushing it hard. Although I do drive 15-20KM over the limit constantly. Now if this car only had an extra 7th gear! I find it revs pretty high. If I'm cruising at 120KM/h on the highway, I'm buzzing along at 2750 RPM. A 7th gear could drop that down to the low 2's, and then the sucker would probably dip under 7L/100K. That would be wicked awesome...

Drove in ECO mode Calgary to Kamloops B.C.@ 10KM over the limit on cruise through the Rockies 633 KMs & averaged 34.5 Imperial MPG on Costco regular in my 2016 3.8 AWD.That is calulated MPG not the car computer which is .5 Ltrs/100 optimistic. Pretty impressive for a 4500 lb car.

Imperial Gallon (160 oz) is no longer used anywhere in the world.

Not in the UK.
Not in Canada.
Not in the Commonwealth.
All converted to metric years ago, as we should have.

US Gallon (128 oz) only used in USA.

Imperial oz and US oz the same.

Note that Imperial Gallon is a fifth larger than a US Gallon.

@ctrcbob- Don't want to start a bun fight but...

The gallon (/ˈɡælən/) is a unit of measurement for fluid capacity in both the US customary units and the British imperial systems of measurement. Three significantly different sizes are in current use: the imperial gallon defined as 4.54609 litres (4 imperial quarts or 8 imperial pints), which is used in the United Kingdom, Canada, and some Caribbean nations; the US gallon defined as 231 cubic inches (4 US liquid quarts or 8 US liquid pints) or about 3.785 L, which is used in the US and some Latin American and Caribbean countries; and the least-used US dry gallon defined as 1/8 US bushel (4.405 L).

Rroyce is really making it complicated. KIISS.

Remember before we (in the USA) switched to Metric for our soft drinks, and alcohol? ( why do we buy a two liter bottle of Coke, not a two quart bottle?). Why we did not switch everything to metric, I don't know.

Do any of you "older" guys remember when we would buy "a Fifth" of liquor? Now sold in 750 ml bottles. That's the way it was sold. A Fifth, not a Quart.

Back to the subject.
Imperial Gallon no longer used anywhere in the world. The whole world uses the Liter (Litre), EXCEPT we in the USA, who uses the antiquated US Gallon.

(Yes, the British still drink their 20 oz pint of beer - 4 oz more than our 16 oz pint).
