  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know if the remote fuel filler door or trunk release is locked while the car is in D or R? The placement of these buttons on the left of the steering wheel (which is a bit of a blind spot) seems less than ideal. It's very easy to accidentally press one of them while reaching for either the LKA or BSD while the car is moving. I wouldn't want the trunk to spring open while I try to activate or deactivate LKA/BSD.

The button is on the same place as all other Genesis cars (I've owned two) Never had a problem touching it by mystake. Regularly you don't activate/deactivate LKA/BSD while driving. That's something that generaly you turn on/off according to your driving style and use it for months or even years w/o changing the settings.

Ha! I worry about it ALL the time. My TLX has it on the steering wheel so it's very easy to turn on/off.

I've been so worried about it that I actually tried it (in the parkade at low speeds). At low speeds it is NOT locked and it will pop open. I didn't want to try it at higher speeds... Maybe one day.

I disagree. I've had LKA mess up and I want to be able to turn it off when I know/suspect it'll have trouble with the road coming up so it doesn't spaz out.

My solution for now is to put a textured sticker on the button so I can tell right away.

if it is anything like the G80 or G90 (and I'm sure the programming is the same)

both require a long press >3 seconds for the power trunk option, can't speak to the regular trunk functionality.

both are disabled if the car is in gear and in motion >1 mph, if at a complete stop they do function with a long press.

every morning I drop my kid off at school and pop the trunk for her to get her things, it will only open if I am completely stopped, I have tried popping it while rolling through the drop off line @ 1-2mph (creeping, no foot on gas) and it does not work, car has to be 0 mph. My Lexus used to work below 5 mph, the G80 has to be 0 mph

also with the G80 if you press and hold the trunk button it will close an open trunk if you have the power trunk option..

Thanks, that's very helpful.

The G70's definitely don't require a long push like mentioned above in the G90. Quick hit and they open.

I have never tried the fuel tank release while in drive, but the truck definitely opens in drive or reverse. (I often drop my kid off for taekwondo and just pull up in front and hit the truck release while still in drive)

I will try the fuel door today at lunch and let you know.

That said though, I don't see it as an issue as I have not one since purchasing the car touched the lane keeping or blind spot buttons. They keep the last setting and I have never changed them so it isn't an issue. I don't see why you would want to regularly turn them on or off.

hmm, in the G90s I test drove a long press seemed to be required.

I know the G80 has it, tried it again this morning, creeping along at 1 mph and the trunk didn't pop until I stopped. Got fuel and again, counted 1 -1000, 2 -1000, 3 - 1000 and this was after car was parked and off and I was out of the car standing by the pump..

in either case it doesn't bother me, I prefer the long press.

To be clear, I am only talking about the G70. No idea on the other two, but the G70 definitely only needs a quick tap to open truck or fuel door.

ah,, but your post above said G90... maybe just the way you worded it confused me.

I did test, and on the G70 it is just a short tap for both the fuel door and the trunk release. As well, both will open regardless if the transmission is in Park, Drive, or Reverse.

So not like the G80 and G90 as mentioned above. Oddly enough, my 5 series was the same though with the power trunk and not allowing you to open when the transmission was not in park.

do they work while moving?

the G80 works in gear, doesn't work when moving (at least the trunk, never tried the fuel door)

Try while moving

I will be honest I don't care enough to try. It really makes no difference to me.

The location of the buttons is fine. I have no reason to reach down to touch them while moving.

Blind spot warning always on.
Trunk release and fuel door release only touched as I exit car.

I know this discussion of the fuel door has come up before but I can now confirm the door is plastic. On the plus side it’s very heavy plastic. On the minus side with sufficient force it can be broken and it was yesterday. What’s more depressing then the repair itself is the way it looks. Sounds crazy right. Anyway, the part is $68.00 and the labor to paint and install is $140.00. Luckily, it’ll be done at my dealer’s collision shop which I’ve had experience with before as my wife likes to test bumpers. I will be more careful at the gas pump from here on.

how did you break it??
In a hurry to start my trip looking forward to a two hour highway trip. Turned put the cap on and hurried to the front door. Heard this terrible loud breaking sound looked down and there it was. Forgot to close the door. Sad to see my door looking up at me.
