  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Originally brought the car in for a bunch of squeaks/rattles, loose rearview, whistling from the driver window, flutter from 25-35 when cold and a whine while under acceleration from 55-70 mph. Didn't know that interior quality issues aren't covered after 12/12k. The dealer is pushing a fuel induction service on me. Says that the previous owner may have used cheap gas due to "excessive carbon build up on the tail pipes'. But then went on to say how impressed he was with the vehicle's service history when he looked up the vin. Pretty sure all cars have carbon build up on the tail pipes. They want $259 for the service. It sounds like a way for the dealer to make money for putting something in the fuel tank. Any thoughts or experience with this service? They have yet been able to diagnose the whine but acknowledge it's there. Pretty sure it's the rear end.

All GDI engines have a problem with oily/carbon buildup in the intake system. You can do it yourself or pay the dealer.
It's more than a can in the tank. They suck a can into the intake and let it sit for 15 minutes. They should also open up the intake and clean the throttle plates with a spray can. I used to do this back in the day with Seafoam. It really does work.
That price seems high. If you do it yourself you will need a code scanner to reset the code it throws.
I saw 3mpg increase after mine was done at 30k. 3.8 rwd

Thanks for the reply. I thought it was high as well.

Scam to try to milk you out of $$$$. Don't fall for it.

If you are using good gas (Top Tier preferred) and maybe once in a while toss in some Techtron gas treatment (not a must), you will be just fine.

p.s. I bet the service is using "BG" products. A nice new trend for dealers to milk customers out of more money.

I started using this - CRC Intake Valve Cleaner.

Not affiliated in any way to this product, but giving my 5.0 a treatment of this just before every oil change hopefully keeps the carbon buildup to a reasonable level. There is no Mass Airflow Sensor on the 5.0 so there are no Check Engine Light Codes thrown by using this on my engine (not sure about the 3.8). I haven't done any before or after inspections but instead have relied on youtube vids where owners of GDI engines have done just that. The cleaning power of this product is rather impressive.

And it costs a lot less than $259!

Using a good quality synthetic engine oil like Mobile 1 will also reduce the buildup of oil vapour on the back of the valves.

Top tier gas does nothing to reduce carbon buildup on the back of valves, but it will help keep injectors working properly and minimize carbon buildup within the cylinders.

What does the B G stand for Alfer?

This product:

Fuel System | BG Products, Inc.

Pretty much every dealer and oil changing shop I've been to in last 2-3 years push this stuff HARD.
10-4 My dealer experience is very limited, also independent shops. I have always done my own work. The Genesis is the most complex vehicle I have owned. Thanks Alfer!👍

Your whine at acceleration between 50 and 70 is probably the rear differential
I had this whine and replacing the differential under warranty eliminated the whine.

You wouldn't happen to still have the service ticket from when you had it done, do you? I've a feeling I'm going to get the run around on this. I already had to send a service ticket I found on the forum about the flutter and wind noise from the driver's side window because they said they couldn't duplicate the problem.

I have a whistling from what seems like my driver's door - turns out that it's actually the rubber seal that's on the leading edge of the REAR door that sometimes gets knocked out of place. It's real easy to dislodge it with your ass when you're getting in the car.

I have done this same treatment on my 2013 3.8, very easy and no codes thrown.

Update... The SA dropped the price of the service so I went ahead and had it done. I wouldn't have believed it but mpg has increased and throttle response is definitely better.

What did the MPG change to? How many tanks of gas have you monitored the change? How were you able to compare throttle response times from pre clean to post clean?

Im not trying to sell this service bro. Just giving my impression. The car had over 54k miles on it. I've gone theough 2 full tanks since the service. I was averaging 21.9 mpg before the service. After more than 2 tanks of gas (937 miles on trip odometer) mpg is showing 23.1 mpg. As far as the throttle response... I drive the car everyday, which is why I can say i notice a difference. So... my ass meter mostly.

What ended up being the final price? What all did the money buy?

It's a 2 phase service. They fog the system and then do something with the fuel rail. The dealership further away quoted me 189 but it was a 1 phase treatment. I ended up paying 229 at my local dealership.

That's a chunk o change for sure. How many miles are on the car?
