  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fuel injector cleaning - Needed? best way to do it

How do you get the automatic rear sunshade?
My rear sunshade automatic goes up and down when I reverse the car if i leave it up. However, I do not know about a purely automatic function that controls the sunshade other than reversing.

I love having the rear shades. I keep all of them up to block the sun since my car stays out 24/7 and summers are usually close to 100 degrees and bright sun. Helps me cool the car down a bit quicker.

I concur. Same boat here and do exactly the same thing. (y)

So I was perusing the service manual and I found these tidbits as to what that "injector cleaning service" entails:

Pour fuel system cleaner into tank.

[1st Method]
  • 1. Start the engine and keep the engine running at idle for 2 minutes.
  • 2. Step on the accelerator pedal and hold it steady at 4500 rpm with the shift lever in N position to warm up the engine until the temperature of the engine coolant reaches 80°C.
  • 3. Keep the engine running at 2500~3000 rpm in the N position for 15 minutes.
[2nd Method]
The 2nd method should be performed only if the 1st method fails (the misfire-related codes recur).
  • 1. Start the engine and keep the engine running at idle for 2 minutes.
  • 2. Drive the vehicle for over 20 minutes, keeping the engine speed above 3500 rpm.
If equipped with manual transaxle, shift the gear properly for keeping the engine speed above 3500 rpm.

Seems like they're just using cylinder temperature to clean off baked on deposits.

To make the sunshade work automatically, I used timer circuits that mimic the pushing of the sunshade button. On start, you need a delay of a couple of seconds before the circuit pushes the sunshade button. When you shit off the car, another circuit triggers the pushing of the sunshade button. If you send me a private message with your email, I can send you the wiring diagram I used.

I used a similar circuit to turn on the heated or cooled seats when I start the car.

The circuits I used are available on the web for about $15 each.

Since I have installed this, I think I could improve the design and eliminate one of the 3 timers I used. But, it is not worth redoing this.

Took the car for it oil change and the dealer was insisting they do a fuel injector cleaning as Hyundai recommends it. Thanked them and said no. Does Hyundai do more than put a cleaner in the fuel tank and would you'll recommend I do it myself with a store bought cleaner? (what brand). I only use Costco gas for the car.

I put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in every month just to kee it running how it should. It may not make a difference but it’s better than the dealership charging $70 for something you can do yourself for $5-$10. You can get a bottle of it pretty much anywhere.

Make sure to use a bottle when you are near empty. Put the cleaner in before you fill it with fuel so that way it mixes properly.

I would like to have this, but can not figure out how to send you a private message. Can you tell me where the instructions are to do so?
