  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys, a newbie here, I've been car shopping for quite some time now and have come back to looking at the Genesis. It's in the same price range as the other cars I've been looking at (G37, A4, TL, and TSX V6) but with a ton more room. I figure if I buy new then I'll just wait for the 2012's but I've been looking at some used ones and they're actually really affordable. Only problem is, I've seen posts that state the warranty is non-transferrable. Is this true, and if so does that mean any used Genesis running around has absolutely no factory warranty on it?

Second owner gets 5yr/60K warranty

We bought a 09 3.8 with premium pkg. in Feb. We did not purchase the extended (dealer backed ) warranty as we were told we would have the balance of 5yrs/60,000 mi for our vehicle. I emailed Hyundai and received a reply with in 2 hours confirming the 5/60k deal. The time line is from the date the vehicle 1st. went into service. I was very impressed with Hundai. I gave them the vin # and they sent me confirmation showing us as owners of the vehicle in the data base for warranty service.
Have not had to try it out but am confident it will be there as stated.

Another way you could go is buy a 2010 demo (there are still a few around) which is titled as new with a full warranty starting the day you buy it (although they do count the miles on the odometer). Last month I got a 2010 4.6L V8 demo (the service manager was driving it) fully loaded with Technology Package with only 2600 miles on it for $34,600 before TTL, and got the full warranty including 10 yr/100K on the powertrain. Or, to be more exact, in this case 10 yr/97,400K on the powertrain.

I have since put another 1000 miles on the car with no problems. I love this car!

Take advantage of the fact that the 2012's are right around the corner. You can get yourself into a 2011 4.6 for around $36k, with the full 10yr/100k mi warranty.

Just saying....

I agree, unless you want a 5.0 V8.

That's good to know, thanks for the updates guys. I'm tempted to wait on the 2012, with the power and efficiency upgrades and the improvements to the suspension, it should make my 70 mile daily commute a lot more enjoyable. Though money talks and a 2011 at a steal can't be passed up.

True. I make the same purchase in October 2010, and received the balance of the bumper to warranty in addition to the powertrain warranty. No problems with the car to date, and loving it.

You'll probably pay 8 to 10K more plus the tax difference for a 2012 vs. a 2011 4.6. What are you getting for all that extra money? A ridiculous amount of hp that you'll never need or use. An eight speed transmission which sounds nice, but the current six-speed is superb. The cars look virtually the same on the outside. New headlights don't add to the looks. Ditto the tail lights. Interior trim and features are identical. Get yourself 2011 4.6. The deals are great and it's a great car.

That's good advice, but I'm leaning towards the V6 anyways. I don't need the extra power and my driving record doesn't need it either. You think the difference will be about the same?

Assuming they won't budge much off MSRP for the first few months, a 2012 3.8L will likely run you at least $41k and change, if not more.

With the current savings (about to expire at end of April, I believe), you can probably get 2011 Tech for I would guess $34k.

You'd only be missing out on the new exterior upgrades (bumpers, rocker panels, headlights, tail lights), the new (but untested) 8-speed tranny, an additional 43 HP, and some suspension/brake upgrades. As for equipment, here's the full list of 3.8L options you'd also miss out on:

Genesis 3.8 Standard Equipment

2012 Genesis also will increase its impressive list of standard equipment, adding headlight LED accents and daytime running lights (DRLs) and outside mirror puddle lamps.

Genesis 3.8 Premium Package

The 3.8 Premium Package will now offer newly-developed power-folding outside mirrors and heated rear seats with console controls. For 2012, the 3.8 Premium package will also include rearview camera, DVD navigation system with seven-inch touchscreen, XM NavTraffic, and 18-inch Hyper Silver split-spoke alloy wheels.

Genesis 3.8 Technology Package:

The 3.8 Technology package will continue to satisfy tech-savvy buyers, adding a newly-developed Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), and thin-film-transistor LCD gauge cluster readout.

Is this stuff worth $7 large to you? To me... yes, I wouldn't mind paying the extra money for this extensive list... but everyone is different ;)

Good point, I've always said, "if you're paying that much for something then you better get what you want". I'm interested to see the price of a 3.8 with premium. I definitely want nav and the back up camera and don't really need the lane departure stuff. Is there a full breakdown of whats with each package yet? And any pictures of the "thin-film-transistor LCD gauge cluster readout"?

Not broken out by package... but if you look at the current 2011 3.8L and packages, you can probably figure this out:

I think all that LCD means is the middle of the speedo/tach screen (LCD):

What do you think the prices will be like for the 2011 v8 this time next year? Think it will be fairly easy to find one used certified?
I am wanting to get a new car this time next year. Looking at the 2012 also, but paying 30k for a used 2011 v8 is pushing it, and I know the 2012 v6 will be around 38-40.
Also looking at some other cars. 2012 has some nice cars coming out. If I decide the genesis is a little to much, the Azera is looking nice. Cars are getting to the point where even cheaper cars (kia optima) have some very nice features.

Thanks for posting the spec sheet, I was hoping they'd make HIDs standard across the board and maybe drop the cooled seats down to the premium package but I guess they don't feel that's cost effective.
