G2 sightings on the increase

Maybe it's just because I'm a new owner, so I'm more aware of the car, but I'm seeing more & more G2s around. I'm in Georgetown, Texas. By no means a little one light town. But no way a metropolis. In three errand runs over the last two days, and within 5-7 miles from the house, I counted eight different G2s. All were 3.8s. One was badged G80. I like seeing them

If it's like this in Georgetown, what's it like in the BIG CITY?

Ditto here in Phx. Obviously a large metro area but it's fun spotting G2s after purchasing one (2016 Ultimate)

Georgetown has a huge population of retirees, with money for Genesis and Equus purchases for luxury, maybe just not enough for E or S-class Benz level luxury (or just smart buyers who want the comfort without the badge and attached price).

I looked at an Equus in Round Rock some years back (I just like big luxury barges, and had recently been driven around in one in South Korea), and the sales guy at the dealership told me they had the highest number of Equus sales in the US because of the retiree population in Georgetown (Sun City?). People who were not quite ready to plunk down $100,000 on a S-class, but would spend $60,000 for an Equus ... I assume there are a lot of folks up your way that replaced a 5-series or E-class with a Genesis.

G1's aren't common in Cleveland because of the RWD and winter snow. But G2's are still a rare sighting. I actually get a little excited every time I see one.

After my last run in with a 3.8 owner, I don't think I'll be complimenting and/or caring about others that's not in this forum or my club. I find owners of cars like this are usually pompous and pretentious.

Not saying all, just saying the last few I've met, all 3.8 owners.

You hit the nail on the head about the retiree population with money around here. I'm often amused at seeing all these grey haired guys, who finally have some money, tooling around in the cars they wanted at 20, but couldn't afford ( Porsches, Corvettes, etc. ).

Two older couples, separate incidents.

First couple who I see at the gym every Friday morning, drives a black 3.8. I've seen it a few times and decided to complement them on it after they were done with the gym. I asked how it rode, were they happy, etc. The older gentleman told me that if I worked hard, I could afford one as well. We've never met before, and fyi, my 5.0 was parked directly infront of them. After I pointed to my car, he then said, "your dad is very generous there young blood, be careful with it." Awkward as hell because I see them almost every Friday morning in the gym.

Second couple - also older, thought that I was panhandling when I gave them a compliment on their all white 3.8. I guess they didn't noticed the young guy that literally parked right next to them drives the same car, but in a different color. The gentleman told me it's a very expensive car, and for me to be careful getting into mine. Dude...we have the same car!

Both times I shrugged it off, I guess some owners feel superior to others in this car. Not cool.

For most people, a luxury car is something that people buy when they are done paying for the house and done putting their kids through college and have put enough money away in their Roth IRAs and 401Ks. A lot of the older generation don't realize that we can do all that AND have luxury cars at the same time. My Dad wanted a corvette for as long as I can remember as a kid and just recently went ahead and bought himself a Z06 after he retired.

I think it's because you're Asian, XPO439 so they thought you were 19. Asians don't age. At least not visually. They have no idea you and wifey have well established careers lol.

you are not the only one in this situation. As a Hispanic male i get this ALL the time. One couple actually thought I was valet parking my genesis for another couple. The older male told me to be careful with other people cars....LMAO. This was at my sons boy scout meeting. So the next meeting i drove my wife genesis and told him " That's my other car". Then, the following meeting i went to enterprise exotic and rented an Escalate(what he drives) and looked straight at him and told him "That's what i drive my dog around in" and kept walking. I respect my elders but some people just don't understand this is a new generation.

I saw you were in Georgetown. Been watching for you, but no sighting yet. I'm typically west of I-35, up & down Williams Drive. Downtown for a meal a couple times a week.

Thought I might have finally spotted you this afternoon. White Genesis in front of HEB on Williams Drive. However, got close & it was a new G80 3.6. I could tell the driver did a double take when I passed him slowly at the light ( he was stopped in left hand turn lane & I was going straight ). Gave him a wave as I went by.

They're still rare around me in northern NJ. I've seen more Teslas than G2s! Of course I've also seen the original Batmobile (from the TV show) passing me going the other direction right in my town.

Nah that wasn't me yesterday. If you do see me (and you'll know my car because of the wheels), I would definitely wave. I always try to make eye-contact with fellow Genesis drivers (both 1st and 2nd generation), but many times they just aren't paying attention .
