  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 2.0T 6MT Owner - Has anyone else with this noticed?

First and only owner 🤦🏻‍♂️ I hear you though… it’s a fine line
That's great to hear. Then only your driving is at play, so you should be fine. With proper driving technique, sounds like either a master or slave failure to me, which should be covered. Keep us posted, and good luck.

^ wow, that's the first instance i've heard. pretty extreme, but glad you were taken care of under warranty. wonder what happened...
Check engine light is on for the 4th time for a powertrain code. This is after replacing the clutch, spark plugs and coils, and all 4 fuel injectors, all in 3 separate visits within 5 months. Genesis is sending out their technician again but they also offered to start reviewing the lemon law. So sad, I love this car.

^ tough news there man. what a weird situation. glad to hear you are receiving decent service and response from Genesis. but i don't blame you for feeling let down by the car. maybe yours was a Friday afternoon build after happy hour had started...

Haha maybe they enjoyed my car more than I got to. Not sure what car to get next... this was the first new/nice car I ever bought. It was a big deal for me! I'll take any suggestions you have.

Just curious if you had checked Carfax or Autocheck records of your 2019 G70... was first owner titled in Fountain Valley, California?

I'm the first owner. Who's in Fountain Valley?

When we were shopping for ours, we came across quite a few low-miles '19 and '20 G70's that had registration records in Fountain Valley, CA (Hyundai/Genesis USA headquarters). Most of them were sold as used, even with odometer reading as low as 5-10 miles, but some were advertised with full warranty and sold as "new" demo/program cars. Some of them were paint defect buybacks from the dealers and subsequently resold as used. Why Are There So Many Used Red Genesis G70s With Under 100 Miles? We'd also come across colors other than red that were registered in Fountain Valley.

There was one we went to look at that had deeply scored brake rotors, but the mileage was only around 50-60 miles. I don't think I could cause that kind of wear on my rotors in 60 miles, even if I try. There were also some odd interior wear/tear that look rather weird. Anyhow, we walked away from that one, of course. After that, we tended to shy away from any that showed Fountain Valley, CA on their Carfax. Not that I knew for sure there were problem with them, but there was enough uncertainty I didn't want to take the chance.

Good to know! Mine is black, but I will do some more research for sure.

well... they finally had time to diagnose the car and its worse then originally quoted... To be replaced:

Flywheel
Clutch disc
Pressure plate
Release bearing

... now its $4200 to fix a 2 year old car! woooooo....
Anyone have experience with this? I'm not a car guru and this was my first "brand new car" so I'm really in a "wtf" headspace right now...

can't tell much from the first 2 pictures. what is wrong with pressure plate and release bearing? or is replacing these with the job 'best practice'? pressure plates seldom fail, however some gearboxes do have systemic issues with the release bearings. my G35 and G37 had similar issues and this was often covered under warranty since it was a known flaw.

#3 there's hot spots on the flywheel which i believe happens from slipping the clutch or aggressive driving - essentially lots of friction getting the friction surfaces really hot. this causes chatter and rough engagement of the clutch disc. if the flywheel is dual mass it can be difficult to resurface and many shops would just re+re. if machining it is an option that is best.

#4 looks like there is decent amount of friction material left on the clutch disc. is there some other flaw?

the only thing that could lead to your symptoms would be the release bearing or pressure plate failure. my thought was something to do with the hydraulic system. the pedal dropping to the floor on its own has nothing to do with the flywheel or clutch disc.

i would ask for a clear explanation of why these parts are being replaced, and how that would solve the problem. you don't want to just throw parts at the issue only to have it be caused by something else.

Yeah, with his symptoms, the immediate suspect is hydraulics indeed, therefore the slave and/or master cylinder, assuming fluid level is correct. Maybe dealer inspected them, and found them healthy? At any rate, looking at the flywheel and pressure plate, there was definitely overheating going on there, which means abuse (hard launches, etc), and/or undesirable driving behavior (inadvertently riding the clutch, holding vehicle with the clutch on an incline, etc.). Overheating can cause fluid to boil, which would explain the pedal-to-the-floor behavior, due to air in the system.

The bottom line IMO is those photos don't point to a manufacturer's defect, unfortunately. But now that the car is torn down, I'd absolutely replace everything mentioned, to start with a clean slate. Good luck.

Back in the shop for the 5th repair... during the last repair in August they replaced the throttle body. After that repair, Genesis declined to do a buy-back or replacement. This time I have a new case and case manager who seems more willing to help 🤞

Sorry to hear you have had such troubles. Our G70 6MT has been rock solid so far... other than than a cracked windshield caused, ironically, by a solid rock. :sneaky: Some folks might blame that on the mfr, but I've had very few cracked windshield over the decades, and unless I see a trend that indicates otherwise, that is - and always will be - just another hazard on the road. The truck in front veered off his lane, into the road shoulder, picked up pebbles and threw one on our G70. To some extend, this sort of scenario can be avoided/minimized by the driver. Then again, some time s*** just happens.

Anyhow, not 100% sure on the exact letter of the Lemon Law, but I think it has to be the same problem that the dealer couldn't fix after repeated attempts. Different states might also have their own Lemon Laws, so it doesn't hurt to look it up.

Oh no! It's never fun when your Genesis is hurt. Mine was also beat up by hail and the rear glass was knocked out 😅 Maybe it's me.
Also, the error code comes on repeatedly for the powertrain.
Have you heard good things about the GV80? I'll be switching soon.

5th warranty repair was finished today. They had found fuel leaking into the oil.

I have a 2020 G70 and had rough running, CEL came on...in the 2 weeks until the dealer could fit me in it started flashing, so I stopped immediately and had it towed. Turned out to be the 3rd cylinder misfire...whole cylinder was scored and wouldn't hold any compression. Ended up replacing the entire engine (at 15K miles)
I’m having the same issue on my 2020 2.0t 6MT. bought the car at 59,000kms and now at 71,000km it is getting a short block replacement under warranty becasue of the same scoring on cyl 3 and won’t hold compression.
