  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 aftermarket brake pads

Curious, a mm too big in what dimension?
I think it would be considered the top and bottom when inserting them. You can see in this picture it was actually rubbing off part of pad frame (not sure on naming here).

Sometimes it's a snug fit. 🤔

Did you try cleaning where the pads sit on the caliper? Husky is right they are a snug fit sometimes too snug if it gets dirty in there, also I would suggest using some sort of brake lube for the top and bottom of the pad frame. (where you circled all along there. Just a bit is enough)

I did brush off the extra dust and grime but I couldn’t even really get the pad to insert straight. It would have taken the paint off of the caliper. If the pad didn’t have that material on the outside it probably would have fit but I didn’t want to force and end up not being able to return them. Hopefully these dynamic friction ones have a more oem fit to them.

Dynamic friction pads are awesome. Just put a set in mine last week. So much better braking. Fit right in no problem.

Hmmmm odd, can’t really say anything at this point without actually trying myself but hey at least you have other pads to put in haha hope they work well!!!

Do you have a link for the exact pads you bought?
I got them from Rock Auto. When I bought them, it said it was the last pair. Put them in the front, and the OEM semi-metallic pads in the rear. Bedded them in, and they are great. I used to have a mild shake with heavy braking, but not anymore. Bedding them I assume took off the rotor deposits. I hope someone comes up with semi-metallic pads for the rear that are cheaper than OEM. Part number for dynamic friction fronts is 1311214500.

I’m in the process of purchasing a 2019 g70 3.3 awd from carmax..it’s currently in transit between stores. I’ve already been doing research on the car and found this forum.
Doesn’t look like much availability at all when it comes to rotors and brake pads. At what mileage is most people starting to change theirs? The 2010 genesis coupe track edition I had for 10 years..dealer wanted 3k for brake job. R1 concepts saved me from craziness doesn’t seem like they have anything in stock currently for the g70.

Thanks

The rotors are fine (unless worn out, which is unlikely), but unless yours is the limited Dynamic Edition you're going to want to change to better pads to avoid/eliminate vibration under braking. The semi-metallic pads also have better bite.
Read this and other threads on braking issues to learn what your options are and what the better factory pad part numbers are. Warning - they aren't cheap, but are well worth it.

Hey Guys, I too had the vibration issue with my 2020 G70 3.3. After much forum reading, I decided to go with the Euro spec pads. My dealer had no idea this was a solution and all they wanted to do was resurface the rotors. This all occurred with 6k miles on the car. After dealer interaction, I called the Genesis corporate number. The local rep couldn’t help me, but did escalate this to a national representative. After several phone calls and explanations on my part, they agreed to pay for new Euro pads and labor costs. The new pads stop better and since installation, I haven’t had a vibration issue. The one downfall is horrible brake dust.

you mentioned national rep, which country? Did you get a reference number or any documentation? I’m wondering if the rest of us can get it covered too

Just an FYI, I tracked my car last night. Heavy braking from 120mph down to 50 or so in a very short period. Brakes worked great. A lot of brake dust at expected, but a little simple green and a pressure washer, and all clean.

Sorry for the angle and no sound. I will fix it for the next event on 8/31.

Looking good, nice job! I've only had a chance to watch the first half of your video, but it looked like a good time and you kept the shiny side up, haha. So those were the Euro pads? Is your car 2WD or AWD? What tires were you running? Also, what organization hosted the event?

It was the Dynamic Friction semi-metallic in front, and the Euro OEM semi-metallic in the rear. I would never track a car with ceramic pads. The braking is so much better now. I was about 3 seconds off my Camaro SS times at this track. Car is AWD. I used the stock Michelin Primacy all seasons because my rims did not come in to put my max performance summer tires on. Should do better with performance tires. This was hosted by SCCA, Track night in America.

Thanks. That's great, considering AS tires. As I'm sure you know, good summer tires will make a huge difference.
I've been meaning to check out the Track Night in America. I'm about 2.5 hours from that track and only 1 hour from the track in Loudon, NH.

TNIA is great. Been doing it for a while. Never been to a TNIA at Loudon, but been to the track many times for the Whelen Modified Tour.

Back to the thread. Put semi-metallic pads in the car, if you can find them, and deal with the brake dust. No more pulsing/vibration.

I need some help here. My dealership (Genesis of Cool Spring) replaced my front rotors under warranty due to the infamous vibration. They tried however to play a fast one by telling me that the pads were not to be covered under warranty and quoted me $550 PER SIDE to proceed (I checked and in the invoiced issued during the last service, they quoted both the rotors and the pads as warranty). Long story short, I told them to shove it and to put the old pads back in place. I immediately ordered what I could find from Rockauto (PowerStop Z23) and installed them ASAP to not damage my new rotors. It is the first time I install pads myself. The install was a breeze, the kit included everything including new pins and spring brackets. I did the bedding and things seem fine. They brake well and strong, with no vibrations, noise, or anything. the only thing I miss is that they lack some of the initial "bite" that the OE pads had, otherwise they feel as strong, a little more linear, which I find to be more comfortable when the car brakes on its own in stop and go traffic. Here is my concern: when the brakes are cold, when I brake for the first time, I hear a faint "clunk". It does not happen afterward but if I back up the car and put it back forward, the 'clunk' comes back that the first brake pressure. I keep researching and I see all kinds of opinions about that. Everything else seems fine but I am uneasy with the idea that something may be wiggling. Does anyone have any experience with that?

I put the HP Plus pads, the noise is super annoying and braking probably won’t be near the Dynamic pads I had. 🥴
