  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 aftermarket brake pads

If you haven't tracked your car, there's no way the pads are worn down to the wear indicators in just 20k miles.

Unless you have some aftermarket wheel with really tightly spaced spokes, you shouldn't need to remove the wheel to check brake pad wear. Just look between the spokes for the metallic tab on the edge of the outer brake pad. Post #451 above shows it very clearly. If you can't quite see between the spokes, stick a cellphone in there and take a pic.

Brake pad wear depends entirely on how the car has been driven. Needing replacement at 20k seems early but not entirely impossible. Our G70 has around 12k and the pads are roughly 1/2 worn. That's just eyeballing without measurement.

Resurfacing the rotors with new pads is never a bad idea, especially if the rotors show any grooving or uneven wear. I tried cheaping out on the Stinger without turning the rotors, and the front brakes were quick to protest my being a Scrooge. Got them turned for $25/corner and all was good. Rears did fine without resurfacing.

Changing out rotors not worn below minimum serviceable thickness is your choice. IMO it's a waste of money better spend elsewhere, especially if your rotors have been working well and have no heat spots. Old heat-cycled rotors are likely more dimensionally stable than green iron. Personally, I wouldn't put drilled rotors on my car, even if you give to me for free. I'd sell them on ebay to those who like them, and buy vented solid rotors instead.

Ok I took pix and I guess they look ok but to be honest I have no idea without measuring but just looking they seem ok.

The rear has the green dot but anyone that has ever looked would know that. I was looking how close the metal indicator was but it is not touching and even when I press them there is no way.

Wonder what it is if not the brakes because it is not but more recent. There is road construction around but still. Maybe a spray with the hose will clean them LOL. Yeah they look dusty but I am not cleaning them every day.

Your brakes look fine. Pads got plenty meat left.

With some pads, a bit of noise, especial on initial contact, or just before breaking contact, with rotor is normal. More performance-oriented compounds tend to make more/louder noise. Some might hiss, others would creak. My Bluestuff pads love to groan, on light contact with the rotors. I'm sure it's because the friction coefficient is so high, even when cold. I tried to be as gentle as I can, but in crawling stop-n-go rush hour traffic, it's tough not to make noise. It's almost as if the Bluestuff pads are complaining: "why are you making us put up with this s***?! We should be at the track tearing it up." Sometimes, drivers next to me with their windows down might turn their heads to check. Me... meh, c'est la vie. It's far better than the rough grinding noise I got with the OEM brake pads that left deposits on the rotors.

Ok thanks

I am driving and I’m like omg I feel like a hooptie 🤣

Lozic in Korea can get parts for great prices. I asked him if he could get this part 58101-J5A55 and he said it was $150. I assume that's just the fronts.

Those are the euro spec, right?

Looks like I was full of it. The price is $270 for the front Euro spec pads. Probably just go aftermarket for that price.

So dealer just replaced my front rotors for free. Cuz of vibration. The vibration stopped. But they said they would have also replaced the pads for free but said they couldnt because they still have a lot of life. They for sure are the stock pads. But should I replace the pads with new aftermarket. That way I dont ruin these new rotors🤣with pad deposits lol they said im covered for up to 60k miles. But i dont want to keep goin back to get free rotors ever and just get rid of the issue. I been driving with these new rotors for about a few weeks now. I dont think the old pads have ruined them yet but I wanna change em asap. I dont track my car and I know ceramic pads get hot if u do track it. So ima go with ceramic just cuz its less brake dust. Anyone have any ceramic aftermarket sites or links with great prices for fronts? And backs also.

You may have to decide what's more annoying to you; brake dust, or brake vibration and trips to the dealer.
It amazes me that Genesis, after four years, still wastes so much time and money repeatedly turning and replacing rotors, rather than fixing the source of the problem. Very disappointing.

Couldn't agree more. Upgraded my pads to Hawk 5.0 and they have been good so far.

Damn lol ya the dealer replaced my rotors but not the pads. If it happens again. They gonna replace the rotors or turn them. And they said they would replace the pads too lol but the problem gonna keep coming back lol

Amazon Canada has EBC Yellow & Red pads for decent prices right now. Red a better deal than yellow. Watch the prices as they fluctuate, picked up the Red's for all four corners for $315 taxes in. Watching the yellows if they drop...

Second this. Tdotperformance.ca is great to deal with as well. Always a sale on. Wait for the elusive 15% discount. Lol

So I have a 2022 AWD 3.3T with the Brembos and I’m getting the annoying vibration. I’m sick of doing the 80mph to 5mph technique as a temp fix. What are the absolute best pads and rotors to replace them with. I was thinking about changing to drilled and slotted rotors.

I have a Challenger R/T that has Brembos with slotted rotors and I have never had this issue, and yes I beat the hell out of them. So you can imagine my shock when I bought the G70 and this issue came up.

You don't need drilled or slotted rotors. It's all about the crappy pads.
You'll find numerous aftermarket brands recommended/discussed in this (these) threads. What's "Best" is subjective, but there are numerous choices that should eliminate the vibration in the future. You'll get more brake dust, but that's the trade-off with better pads.

I have black rims so dust is not the big issue for me. What would you recommend?

EBC Yellowstuff is well liked, Hawk Performance is a good alternative (and what I picked, the HPS 5.0 pads).

I have the factory Euro pads, which are great but very expensive. They were the only option in 2019.
See what others on these threads recommend, now that there are reasonable cost alternatives.

As a pad breakdown;

Greenstuff - entry level upgrade from OEM, not track capable. Medium/Low dust. Eco-friendly material

Redstuff – Organic blend, lowest dust & kind on rotors, better friction than Green. For higher HP &/or heavier cars. Ceramic particle enhanced, NOT ceramic fibres. Long lasting, not track capable

Yellowstuff - Street performance, great friction for spirited driving, works good from cold, works best when hot. Takes longer to bed. Not low dust.

Bluestuff - Hybrid Street & track pad. High friction street pad capable of track days. Works great from cold. Quicker bedding. Not low dust. 0.52mu coefficient & 0.42mu coefficient available for some rear applications (lighter cars)
