  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2019 Genesis G70 2.OT AWD Prestige. I have owned two 2015 Hyundai Genesis and driven countless Hyundai and Genesis models. So since I got the car when I use the brake auto hold feature the car make a loud clunking noise at the wheel positions when stopped, sometimes, just front, sometimes just the rear, sometimes both. When it really gets going it will shake and move the whole car like I need an Old Priest and a Young Priest. It is bad enough I am scared to use it for safety reasons. I have had my local dealership look at it for every service appointment I have had since I got the car brand new and shown them videos of the sound and what it does. Have been told they all do this and that is normal. No they don't. Anywho, have recently had more time and had the service manager ride 100 feet around the dealership parking lot and stopped with the auto hold and it did its exorcist thing and he was like "oh yeah, that's not right." They got my car back in, had it a week and when i picked it up I was told they couldn't reproduce the problem and didn't do anything to it. No biggie, got the lead tech in the car with me, drove 50 feet and came to a stop with the auto hold on and the demons were really on one that day and the car was literally shaking back and forth. It was about 3 weeks before they could get be back in and have a loaner for me. Fast forward to today, they have had my car two weeks and are telling me that the noise is perfectly normal and they all do that with auto hold, along with some other condescending stuff I won't go into. Anywho, I have researched online over and over and can't find anything about any cars doing this with auto hold; Genesis/Hyundai or other. I don't feel like the car is safe to drive with auto hold and it would be nice to have that feature back. There is a bigger Genesis Dealership about an hour away I can take it to but I feel like I will be restarting the whole process. I *prostrating* am beseeching you, Genesis owners for any news, advice, guidance, or any other help you can offer on this issue, whether others have had the problem or specific things I can have the service department check. Thank you very much in advance.

Is the shaking when coming to a stop, or when moving again after stopping? Is the behavior the same if auto start/stop is disabled?

The shaking is only when stopped ans yes same with auto start stop disabled. It's like each brake is pulsating or all of them at once. Once I move.again everything is fine. Sometimes it is just a clunking noise while stopped with the auto hold, Sometimes it is noise and the whole car shaking.

I don't see how brakes could make a non moving car shake.

Neither do I that's why it freak me out lol.
AFAIK. the Auto Hold just keep brake pressure applied once stopped and hold until you touch the gas. I'm assuming from what you said it is only when auto hold is on.
Is the engine RPM the same if it is on or off? Should be.
Can you try it on a hill and see if anything different? Since the wheels would try to turn it could make a difference.

Only thing I can think of is the holding system (solenoid?) or check valve is chattering for some reason but even that should not shake a car but could make noise.

I will, it's at the dealership now and though both the service manager and lead tech have been with me at separate times when it does it just driving around the dealership lot they are insisting that it is normal for it to do that. I've always been on a flat surface, I know on a hill it could kick the parking brake on for safety if need be. Engine RPM stays the same. It is like each brake or all the brakes keep grabbing themselves or something, to varying degrees of noise and violence.

I've only owned two cars with auto hold. Both were quiet and vibration free. Does not sound like normal to me. Have them let you drive a couple of cars on the lot to prove it is normal.

It's not normal and I have tried that. The insist my loaner now, a 3.3T G70 doesn't do it because it has different brakes, but for the first two years I had the car I got a G70 2.0T loaner just like mine. I can't even find any car of any brand doing anything like that on Google. I can start at a new dealership but after the service manager and the lead tech both independently heard what I am talking about and experiencing I'm hoping to get it taken care of there, though it's not looking good.

You replied to someone saying it also happens with auto on off disabled. But does it also happens when you don't have auto hold ON? For example using the foot brake to stop the car. Maintain the car stopped and then accelerate? Does it also do this at that time?

The last time something like that happened with any vehicle I've owned was when a caliper started siezing on me. And since the rotor was still being held by the caliper it would shake and sound like a rub

Possible ?

No, without the auto hold brakes seem fine, never had any issues with them. Only weird stuff ever is with the auto hold on. The dealership has turned the rotors (which I doubt did anything) and is supposed to be calling the Tech Line to Hyundai/Genesis. I will try to attach a very early vid clip of the noise it makes, mind you this was at 823 miles on the car. I recorded some of the more violent episodes but can't find the vids. I basically only ever use the auto hold to see if it is still doing it or to demonstrate the issue.
By the way, thank you to everyone who has responded, it means a lot. Apparently since my post the service manager at the dealership my car is at has been let go. I dont know if that will be good for me or bad for me lol. Ok scratch the video it apparently won't let me upload it.
