  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Lots of people drive cars (and trucks) on both the west coast and the east coast in Canada and don't have their vehicles disintegrate before their eyes. Hopefully the G70 will be the same.
A lot of the ports where they store the cars are very close to the ocean. There have been reports of rusted brake rotors on some previous Hyundai Genesis models. I don't say the cars would disintegrate, but a port of entry is not a great place to store them for a long time.

...
Personally, I would be a "little" concerned about a so-called new vehicle sitting at a port of entry for a long time, since some of them are more prone to rust at those seaports.

They use a ton of salt on the roads here in the winter and the cars survive. Cars are not affected by the sea coast air.

Brake rotors are made of bare steel, unless you buy ceramic, and will very slightly rust if the vehicle is stationary for days on end and it has been raining. Has no affect on the performance of the vehicle as that little bit of brake rust will be removed once the car is driven a few miles and you use the brakes.

There were a reports on this forum of pulsating brakes as a result of the rust. I am not saying it was a huge deal, but I just would not want a car sitting outside near the ocean for a few months.

The ocean has no affect at all. Rain and bare steel = rust. This will happen anywhere a vehicle is stored outside with chances of prolonged rain. The amount of rust is very minimal and only affects the bare steel of the rotors. I have never seen this affect a break to cause pulsing and I live on the coast. Pulsing breaks usually occurs when you do not bed your new break pads in correctly with new rotors. i.e. the pads can leave deposits on the rotors which causes the pulsing.

Anyone else finds it surprising that there have been no new pronouncements from Genesis or any automotive news sources updating the status of the dealership situation?

Not at all. They've made some dumb moves in the past so perhaps they got smart and figured it is best to say nothing until it is time and correct.

It's salt spray from the ocean. Less of problem on southern California coast compared to east coast. Not sure about Pacific northwest. Last I heard, Hyundai about 4 ports of entry, 2 on east coast and two on west coast, but that could have changed.

Actually...they are in port on the Gulf of Mexico...LA i think. Perhaps even TX. That is what the rep guy told my dealer anyway.

Los Angeles? California is not on the Gulf of Mexico, it is on the Pacific.

There is a Hyundai port of entry north of LA, one in Georgia, one in northeast US, and maybe one in pacific northwest.

Perhaps you should study up on your USA State abbreviations.

I know the state abbreviations. I asked if you meant Los Angeles. All you have to do is say no, I meant Louisiana. There is definitely a port of entry just north of Los Angeles for Hyundai. The most common port for cars on the Gulf is Houston, but that doesn't mean I know if Hyundai uses one in Louisiana instead.

Hyundai has moved their ports of entry around quite a bit in the last 8 years, so I don't know the latest. My Hyundai Genesis was imported into Georgia, I believe Brunswick.

I thought myG80 Sport entered through Charleston SC? Hyundai does not show that as an active port. I will have to look at my window sticker to confirm.
Mea Culpa. I stand self-corrected. My delivery was the port of Brunswick GA.

Believe me when I say we use a lot of salt on the roads during the winter here, mixed with snow causes a very salty water bath for the rotors a million times more corrosive than any salt spray the ocean can produce. Our roads are like this for at least 4 to 6 months of the year and it causes no ill affect on brake rotors. PS: my father's Genesis has endured this salt water bath for the past 6 years, with his Genesis sitting outside all year long and his brakes and his car are still rust free.

I'm a little surprised they do not have some kind of social media "representative" whose purpose is to respond on sites like this and make people feel more comfortable moving forward. We have already seen a handful of people say they are going to pass on the G70 bc of how things are unfolding. Surely they know about this website. I imagine they even read it from time to time. It would be in their best interest to have some kind of communication. This way they can attempt to control the narrative, keep potential buyers somewhat informed, and not have people turn on the brand.

I have often wondered why there is no official representation on this site? I would think that they would want to have an official voice on the many issues being addressed here. Has administration every inquired of Hyundai?

There are also potential problems. Someone will be asking for favors or intervention with a warranty issue. The person may be expected to give information they are not privy to or allowed to divulge. Should they give wrong information, that would cause another problem.

The old Hyundai Think Tank was run by Hyundai and closely monitored so that worked OK.

I can appreciate all of those potential issues. However, if the individual was an official media representative of Genesis/Hyundai that should eliminate any misrepresentations. As to asking for any assistance the forum memeber would be referred to the appropriate departments.

Exactly. I don't see any issues so long as the person is there in an official capacity. Meaning someone who works directly for Genesis and whose job it is to keep people informed, answer appropriate questions, etc.
