  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Genesis let CR borrow a G70. I am not 100% sure if it is a US spec model (Kia was notorious for lending ROW Stingers to the US press for testing). Genesis USA would likely not want to do this too far in advance of a US release.

They need EPA testing and certification
.

I believe this step is complete:

Designing, prototyping, testing, setting up manufacturing, manufacturuing a brand new car takes quite a long time. They plan on when it will be done, but like most projects that size and complexity it never finishes exactly when planned. They have tons of stuff to worry about when getting a brand new car to market, and market timing is probably at the bottom of the list of things to worry about.

^ the G70 has been out for a year or two over in Korea apparently, so the R&D/manufacturing shouldn't be much of an concern for the delay. packaging and content for N.A-spec units would be an issue though. seems the dealer network is the main stumbling block for the US market.

Seems that the limiting factor is the dealership issue.

A quote from my dealership Sales Manager on 04/03 concerning the Genesis Motor America agreement.
"Genesis is not an official brand as of now until Model Year 2019. Within the new Genesis Motors America agreements 90% or more dealers have to accept the settlement offer. The deadline is today and less than 25% of the dealers have accepted. So it appears the launch of Genesis as a brand will be delayed for the indefinite future."

As noted earlier there apparently is no significant change in reaching an agreement on the settlement offer, especially when 90% of the dealers have to approve.

Yes. that is what I originally posted in this thread, and repeated in another post in this thread.

The question was about planning, and as I have said many times, they get the cars to market as soon as they can, all factors being considered. As to what is the optimal release time of the year, so long as it is in the correct calendar year, all the other factors are more important. They don't delay introduction of car to get it out at the optimal time of year.

The G70 went on sale in Korea back in September.

Just got off the phone with the manager at a Genesis dealer near me. He said that something changed last week...and apparently nothing is happening now until the end of June. I asked him what...he said that he could not tell me. I then asked if it's for the better or worse...and he paused and said it's better for everybody.

So...anyone know anything? What the heck happened last week?!?!?! Let the research begin !!!

I can only imagine that the G70 won't be available until the 3rd quarter now like it was hinted at.

He did tell me that dealers will be notified of this "change" next week...so perhaps dealers will be able to share next week, etc.

What a pita...I swear. If this gets delayed any further...these wankers are going to lose me as a customer for sure.

Well...I just found out what it is !!! Looks like all Hyundai dealers will be able to sell the Genesis brand. Wow.

But...2019 models (G70, etc) will only be wholesaled to newly franchised Genesis stores.

So I can only assume that the G70 will become available MUCH sooner. Perhaps end of June like they said waaaay back? I'm very happy.

Fully verbiage below...

Genesis changes its mind on retail network -- again

We need details though. Will they be required to put in a special urinal for the G80/90 owners? That seems important to some buyers. Overall, sounds like a good move.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I am sure some one somewhere will find something to criticize about it. BUT Sounds to me like a good compromise knowing everybody can’t be pleased all the time.

So Mark_888 has been correct all along - it truly is a half-arsed rollout. Amazing they are still changing their plans in BIG ways at this stage... though this is what they should have done all along. The shame is that their execs are still pulling down big bucks while not having a cohesive strategy! Not a good start if you can't even get your messaging straight: are you distancing your new luxury brand from Hyundai or not? It appears not - so why did that take so long to figure out?

I'm not sure that they don't want to distance Genesis from Hyundai. It appears they did not do the homework and are caught up with so many delays so this decision looks to be a temporary fix to the falling Genesis vehicle sales in particular, as someone pointed out in another thread. I believe their plan is still to have Genesis as a separate entity and while they are hopefully pouring more resources to get there, this decision should make sure they don't lose more money from lack of sales.

Agreed...I think they are realizing that the clock is ticking...and they are going to fubar the release of the G70. So they are doing what they can to get it out to the market.

Then...moving forward...they have plenty of time to sort this whole mess out.

There is no way that they will continue to keep Hyundai and Genesis together.

Another thing I just noticed...and I could be COMPLETELY wrong here so be nice.

Acura, Infiniti and Lexus only existed in North America in the beginning. All these cars existed as Honda, Nissan and Toyota in other parts of the world. Not until many years later did these "luxury" brands become visible in other markets.

So I think Genesis is the first "luxury" brand to truly separate from Hyundai world wide right from the start.

"Genesis confirmed that even under the new plan, all the new dealers will be required to have separate stores and service facilities just for Genesis."

So I'm not so sure this really changes things that much. All this says is any current Genesis dealer that wants to continue to sell Genesis cars still has to build a new seperate dealership. How many of these guys really wants to spend that kind of money to sell (today) 3 models? I still see G80's and 90's sitting for months on dealer lots.

It sounds like the G70, being a 2019 model, will still only be available through the newly-minted, exclusively-Genesis dealerships, while 2018 G80s and G90s will also be available through certain existing Hyundai dealers. Is that how others understood this? Even if that's the case, it seems like a positive move if all Hyundai dealers approved for Genesis sales can provide service.

Honestly...it is confusing. The article does state that the G70 will be available.

Apparently all dealers are being notified next week...so I think within a week or 2...we will all know what the F is going on. I hope anyway.
