  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

I called the two local "Genesis" dealers as well as a couple in the Bay area. One of the local ones would not even take my call when I asked for Genesis sales. I spoke to Genesis customer care today and they said again that the first releases were going to be on the two coasts, CA and FL, late September or early October. They said in CA the first were going to be LA and SF. Since I live close to SF I asked which dealer in SF and they said Dublin Genesis. I called them and let a message this morning as the managers were in a meeting. No call back so I called them again and got the sales manager John who sounded annoyed that I was calling. He said they are showing the first shipments late October. I asked if I could be put on the waiting list and he said OK and was this Steve who called this morning? So far not a great experience trying to spend my $50K while listening to Hyundai adds on hold, no call backs and annoyed sales managers.

Thank you for the California info. Much appreciated. Canada’s sales system would be welcome here. The dealer sales setup we have in the US is so antiquated and cumbersome. I want to go on my Amazon app and buy my car.

Holy crap...

Some dealers in GA have them...but not for sale yet.

Some dealers are getting them NEXT WEEK!!!

She didn’t know what States.

Fme...I hope VA gets them next week.

UPDATE: Talked to my dealer guy. He met Kenny Lee this week up in DC...he is the CEO. Confirmed that dealers are getting cars next week. Which ones? Who the fvck knows. Fingers crossed !!!

To add...no allocations...he said cars will just show up at the dealers. What?!?!?!

Of course you should never be annoyed with a customer, but I wonder how many calls he gets for information he does not have.
I have never been annoyed by a customer. . . until I put the phone down.

"Did you call the number from the Genesis website? "

I called 1 (844) 340-9741

"but I wonder how many calls he gets for information he does not have"

One of the dealers I called said I was the first one to call and ask, this was a Reno dealer just in case I need to make a short road trip.

Just found out crappy Tucson won't sell Genesis anymore so I need to drive 120 miles to Phoenix once they get them. This wait is killing me as I need a new car by January 1.

I called the number Ed gave and spoke with a female. After she told me all that I called the GM at my dealer.

So does that mean you would have to drive 120 mi every time you need service or maintenance?!

I live very close to the Dublin Genesis dealer. Over the past many weeks, I've spoken to two different people and neither was named John. First guy claimed he was 'in the know' with Genesis cars and was friendly, but not very articulate and not very informed about this car; about what I would expect from Hyundai. The second guy I talked to just yesterday claimed to be the sales manager and he seemed slightly annoyed and not very talkative. He thinks they'll get some cars in late Oct/Nov, but he had no solid info.

As @EdP notes, I'm sure these guys get LOTS of calls from people asking about the G70, so I can forgive some of that. But it doesn't really take that much energy to try to leave a good impression with a potential customer about to drop $50K on a car. There are at least 3 other dealers in the Bay Area that will carry the G70, so at least there are other options.

Called both Dennis Genesis (Dublin, OH) and Hatfield Genesis (Columbus, OH) and was very unimpressed with the tone from sales associates at both dealerships. Neither showed any interest in my call nor did they have any information other than the person at Dennis Dublin telling me there was a waiting list already. Both were willing to take my name and number. Think they may need to work on their IPC skills if they want to compete with cars in the G70's competitive class. I don't drink coffee so don't care about that part of the Lexus dealership experience but a little better interaction for a potential customer wouldn't hurt.

I imagine Mr. Lee’s bosses in Korea are not pleased with how things are going here, on the Genesis side of Hyundai. But, the US is a huge market and if they want their cars sold here then they know the “challenges” of selling here.

Our system of federalism here in the US probably looks more like feudalism to those outside the US, but I do appreciate that, in spite of what I said earlier, there are advantages to a system that uktimately rewards those who give good customer service and those who cling to the tired, annoying old-school ways of selling cars.

It will take a while perhaps for all this to get going. Reputations do stick. I do remember the BMW dealer my mom got her 1982 733i from which treated her well, and that dealer now has a huge facility in central Orange County. So if BMW were to maybe get back to their roots and make cars like they did in the 1980s, I’d go there first.

There are NO advantages to the dealer system here. It’s pathetic.

FWIW, I spoke with the sales manager at my local (NE Ohio) Genesis dealer yesterday. Nice guy. He told me that they are STILL waiting to hear from Genesis corporate as to what the requirements will be for being a Genesis dealer going forward. This dealership has been a G90 licensed store from the get go, so I would imagine they are getting accurate info.
According to him every state has different requirements and they are supposed to find out the final details for OH in the next three weeks. He was very much up to speed with everything that has been reported here and what he said was consistent with all that we have been hearing. He said they plan to continue to be a dealer unless the requirements are financially unreasonable. I gave him my number and asked to be contacted when they get final answers. I extended my Toyota lease 6 months the beginning of September waiting for the G70. Hoping it pays off!

How unfortunate. I have had similar experiences with effectively every Hyundai dealer I have ever interacted with in SW and NW Ohio.

Do they ever, I remember a few years ago after an interview stopping by Kelly BMW and looking at a used 335i and asking for a test drive. Said I was in the market and was looking to buy in 3 months (final quarter in my second year of grad school. The Sales Associate said he wanted to wait until I was closer to buying before we looked at a test drive. As pissed as I was it was nowhere near the fury of my girlfriend (now wife) who was already practicing law. She sent an email to the Sales Manager and never even received a response. I'd cross several time zones before ever giving them a dime.

More to the question is if dealer sales can’t or are not interested in keeping up with Genesis press releases that are all over on the net then maybe they shouldn’t be selling Genesis. Or better yet, you should not be frequenting those dealers. Guaranteed you won’t be happy in the long run. The nice gentleman you spoke to has better things to do. Go to a dealer who is knowledgeable. It shows they want to earrn your business.
Way to twist the Genesis Corporate fiasco into a dealer issue. I have never heard of a new model launch that was as screwed up as this one - clearly, info is just not being provided from Genesis USA. Dealers should not have to be looking for info in press releases - they should be getting detailed, accurate info directly from Genesis USA!

BTW, they now officially missed the "late summer" availability in their press releases. Not a great start to this brand rollout, that's for sure!
