G70 US Availability?

I saw the G70s today (didn't choose to drive them) and the Siberian Ice is really my favorite. I've been considering the G70 vs an Audi A5 Sportback. A quick overview was that the 3.3t interior felt tighter than the Audi A5 and the quilted sport seats were firm, but comfortable. The Audi interior looks more modern and refined and you can't beat the Virtual Cockpit. The G70 trunk is very small, so it's a big compromise for my needs. It's currently selling for MSRP and comparing this to a discounted Audi makes it a less compelling argument.

Honestly, unless Audi jacks the prices up on the '19s, I'm probably going for an A5 sportback. Their 4 cylinder performance slots nicely between the Genesis 2.0 and 3.3 motors and is probably enough power. But the G70 is still a good choice when you consider the included service and warranty values.

Interesting you mention the A5. Besides the 3 Genesis models, the two other cars that really caught my attention at the OC Auto Show was the A5 and the BMW M5 (I see a trend here...) The M5 is way out of my affordability so the A5 was intriguing.

The 3.3T V6 in the G70 is very tempting. Even if Genesis isn’t widely available for sale, it would benefit Genesis to set up some test drive events. I’d suggest asking for a donation to a worthy cause (like hurricane relief) just so the serious people signed up, and let us drive. It helps to sit in the car and see it in person, but we still need the test drive.

Does the New Jersey dealer have a Siberian Ice? Because it’s a non-traditional color, it’s difficult to search for it, even for a G80

Yes, they got another shipment in yesterday and I saw at least one of Siberian Ice.

Update: It is no longer on their inventory, they must have sold more as there are less now than earlier.

Update Update: I'm lost on the East Coast. LOL. It was Alexandria that got the shipment in not NJ. Sorry about that.

Wow... just came back from a lengthy test drive at Burns NJ. What a freaking machine! I test drove the 3.3T prestige and it definitely met my expectations. Some comments:

1. The interior is much more luxurious than the G80, and materials feel very high quality. The quilted nappa leather felt very nice, and the salesman let me take a look at the leatherette in the G70 2.0T advanced too which was not that bad at all
2. Speaking of which, they had a freaking siberian ice in the 2.0T advanced AWD (pics attached)! Meaning it's not limited to the sport trims! It definitely is one of the better colors they offer, but I was surprised I actually like the pure white color better, just looked much cleaner
3. The drive... since I had to drive quite some miles to get there, the salesman was nice enough to let me take some backroads and also some freeway driving for a total drive time of ~25 minutes. The on ramp acceleration and handling through curves to merge onto the freeway in sport mode was the most memorable experience. The thing just moved like a champ with excellent low end torque
4. Even without the adaptive suspension, the ride was very comfortable. Genesis/hyundai hit the jackpot with this suspension, amazing how they can make it sporty enough without making the ride too harsh even without adaptive suspension. I like this balance more than my genesis/G80
5. As nice as the SVM and the HUD are, I didn't feel like I'd need it and it cemented my belief that the 3.3T advanced should be sufficient for my needs, especially with no sunroof
6. I was really surprised at the backseat foot room, I was expecting 2-door coupe level of comfort but at 5'10, I feel like I can sit comfortably for a short trip.
7. The 20 spoke rims grew on me, doesn't look bad in real life. I'm ok with it, although I would prefer the 10 spoke rims for AWD as well
8. Uploaded the interior of the forest green G70 that was uploaded on their instagram a few days ago, apparently the owner is picking it up today (congrats to that person). The beige interior though I wasn't feeling it.
9. Lastly, the guys at Burns were super nice and not pushy at all. They knew I was holding out until more availability and incentives kick in, but still let me check out the cars and do a long test drive on a weekend. They'll be on my shortlist for my eventual purchase

At this rate, I might just wait for a 2020 G70. It's a brand new car with potential problems. Might as well wait for some minor fixes and a much better deal.

I might do the same and buy a 2020 G70 when the hype dies a little and incentives kick in. Do you have a rough estimate of when 2020 year models will come out? I saw that most dealers start selling new year model as early as in the fall or towards the end of the year, but considering that 2019 G70 just started to piling up at some dealers, I would think G70 will have a delayed new year model change.

Sorry, I never test drove it in part due to not wanting to deal with the salespeople there and my lack of interest in it since I knew I would prefer a smaller car after owning my genesis/G80. Although I can't compare, most people who have driven both seem to say the G70 drives sportier and the interior is nicer at the cost of practicality. Looks is subjective but the G70 is a real looker in person.

The A5 is a surprise when you see the utility of the liftback. I would probably buy the G70 if it had a larger trunk, but seeing it in person sadly confirmed that it's not a good fit for me.

Not to pry...but why do you need a bigger trunk? It’s not that bad. To add...the back seats fold 60/40.

Not at all. I also use it for work and have to carry tools and parts with me all the time. And obviously, the seats have to be upright or the cargo will be exposed.

As an S5 Sportback owner, it's the perfect car when you need a little more trunk space but don't want to compromise handling all that much.

This is actually what I've decided to do. I wouldn't be surprised if they're out around September or October next year. I figure I might as well wait, less likely to have problems is my guess and who knows what they'll add. Maybe I can get ambient lighting. By time it's widely available and has decent deals, it won't be too much longer for me to wait. I'll have to live through you guys for now.

By any chance did you see the manufacturing date of the cars? I would like to know the time those car sat at the port.

Yeah, that's a good point. If I were leasing I would get one anyway, but I'm already leasing my SUV and I would prefer not to be leasing two vehicles. Would rather own at least one. So if I'm going to own it, I would prefer there be less of a chance with issues. The Stinger had been out for a while in Korea and Canada before we got it here, but there were still little problems such as hatch rattling and the paint and such. I doubt there will be anything major, but in my situation I'm just going to wait. Who knows, by time the 2020 is out, I'll probably be able to just pay cash for it so I won't have to finance it at all.

Don't like the Shift By Wire. Wonder when using paddle shifters, does car stay in lower gear, or does it upshif by itself after a few seconds. My two Sonata Sports can be downshifted with the gear shifter and when shifter in the left manual position, and paddle shifter used, the car stays in the selected gear. Will not upshift by itself. Truly stays in the gear you want, not the gear it chooses for you. I use the gear shift lever in manual OFTEN. (I may have to go for the manual).

They are built in Ulsan, South Korea, as was my Hyundai Elantra. Very high reliability.

If my Elantra had a Nappa leather seats and a 3.3T engine, I would keep on driving the Elantra full time. I will be keeping the Elantra because it’s paid-off and a nice suburban daily driving car.
