  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Thought I read somewhere that Kia and the US had come to some type of agreement. I could be wrong though.

As I understand it, the so-called KORUS agreement has been around for a while now but The Prez has, on several occasions, said he wants to tear it up and start over, as he has with other international trade agreements. He feels that Korea is ripping off the US by not paying for the US military presence there and wants to impose tariffs to offset the cost to the US. His advisors mostly think that's a terrible idea economically and militarily and try to dissuade him. They point out, for example, that our bases in Korea could detect a North Korea missile launch in 7 seconds whereas the next-best installation, in Alaska, wouldn't detect it until 15 minutes after launch.

Let's hope the advisors win the argument, for lots of reasons.

Ah ok, maybe I read that for now they were going to leave it which I interpreted as they agreed to not worsen tariffs. Yeah, let's hope they win. I would prefer not to be bombed or pay more for my cars lol.

Oh so I was right! I thought I had read that. I really don't keep up with politics or any of that stuff. Cuts in to my time to research cars and tech lol. But the deal was something I was worried about because of car prices so it was fair game.

i'm sure you all saw this, but build and price is up

problem is every dealer I call near me here in TX laughs when I ask them about the G70 release date.

FYI for all Ohioans, I received this email from Elyria Genesis:

"Sorry for the delay in reply! Our owner was at a Hyundai conference this week and I was hoping to have more information for you from that event.

It seems that the expectation is for Ohio to start receiving 2019 Genesis inventory around the end of the year, which fits perfectly with your 6-8 week estimate. In terms of changes on the G80 Sport, all indications are that there are essentially no changes between the 2018 and 2019 model years. Although of course, if I gain any information to the contrary, I will be more than happy to update you on that."

It's a little scary that they are even admitting the wait could last until end of year. Remember when the price release came out and they were supposed to be on sale that week? Estimates are usually too optimistic. Now I could see this dragging easily into Feb.

At that point the cars will have been sitting at the port for a long time and you'll still need to wait to get anything off MSRP. Looking more likely that I'll have to get a 2020 G70.

You might not have to wait to get anything off MSRP, they're already discounting some places. If not though, you can join me in the waiters club.

I got this email from a Hyundai Dealer in Houston this week:

"No one in Texas will be getting the G70 anytime soon. It is sad because I would like one for myself. There is a Hyundai dealer in Austin sueing Hyundai and Genesis over something and there will be none released until that is settled. But yes we will be one of the first to have them whenever that may be.
