  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

I got this email from a Hyundai Dealer in Houston this week:

"No one in Texas will be getting the G70 anytime soon. It is sad because I would like one for myself. There is a Hyundai dealer in Austin sueing Hyundai and Genesis over something and there will be none released until that is settled. But yes we will be one of the first to have them whenever that may be.

Oh wow...well that doesn't sound good.

Tell you what...they better pray that all this gets sorted out soon. If they plan on having any success with the GV80 in the USA (bigger market than the G70)...it has to be widely available. Folks are not going to put up with it...and the brand will fail miserably.

dont buy anything in there! im sure you already know that, but i got duped once...never again
I know most warranty or maintenance packages are BS, but would it be useful to have a minor package in this case of a new model? I'd be worried that if there are minor rattles or creaks because it's a new model that I'd have to pay for every fix from the dealership.

What about the extensive bumper-bumper Genesis warranty? I am excluding peripherals like tires and wheels.

What Larry says below. You'll have a 5 year 60k miles warranty.

The longer warranty you have to pay extra for? My rule of thumb is the only reason they offer these is because one reason...they make money off them. A 3rd party warranty, or even just saving money to pay for your own repairs will more often than not be much cheaper than what you paid at the dealership. Also, that payment is locked into the whole price of your car, you’re paying interest on it for the length of your loan

The 10 year Bumper to Bumper/Platinum warranty is all Hyundai and well worth the cost. All you have to do is; negotiate for the employee discount which cost around $1500.00.

We have the Platinum Warranty and it only cost $1350 after we negotiated for it. The financier still makes his sales bonus no matter what the final cost for the plan is. You can also pay for it up front like we did, which is more cost effective. It's also transferable to the next owner or refundable from the dealer.

A long, long time ago my dad taught me: " Extended warranties are BS made for stealing customer's money " I think he learn that for my grandpa.

It’s true. You can buy one if you really want a few months before the factory one expires. No need to buy up front...no matter what BS they try to feed you.

The BMW twin scroll has noticeably less lag,

Really? My BMW 335i twin scroll has a ton of turbo lag. My wife's older twin turbo 135 was quicker and had noticeably less lag. I would think the true twin turbo of the G70 would be similar. I'll have to drive it and see for myself.

Woulda been good info to have a few hours ago. Got the Genesis platinum warranty which is still a great deal for like $2600. Didn't even think to negotiate the price of it.

Still not too worried. My BMW warranty cost over $3k and is for a shorter term. It's already paid for itself with $5k in repairs that I'd have been stuck with.

BTW, the electronics are only covered 3/36 under the standard warranty. On a brand new model like the G70, it seemed like a good idea to protect everything for the long term.

I can almost guarantee you will be replacing it with new one in 3 years

Yeah, with a BMW I can definitely see that. We got one on my wife's Kia, it's the platinum warranty but I found another dealership willing to sell it to me for like 1400 since the dealership I purchased from wouldn't negotiate on price. Main reason was the electronics only being covered for 3yr/36k miles and everything is dependent on them pretty much. We plan on keeping it for the long haul though.

This could turn me off from the car. The generous warranty was a big selling point. Now they want us to spend more to complete their warranty.

The devil is in the details.

Tbh it was always like this all the way back to the 90s with Hyundai and their '10 year warranty'. It's just most people don't bother to read the details.
