  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G80 Sport - Lowered on ARK GT-F Springs

Hmm, it looks weird, I wonder if they put correct springs at rear and vice versa. As you can see below, I had my 5.0, which is as heavy as G80 Sport, sitting on OEM, then "F" and "S" springs, you can compare how each set should look like.... and the GT-S springs in the box.

Dareckibmw,

I actually used a lot of your pics for reference before I ordered anything. Along with that I found another guy with a Sport on GT-S springs and his car was perfectly level. I expected the rear to look exactly like yours...which it does. The front I expected to sit a tad higher based on potential weight differences between our motors...I assume the V-8 weighs a little bit more but I could be wrong. Anyway, I did the install myself and I'm pretty sure I have the springs in the correct location. I figured the center two are the rear and the outer springs are the fronts but I never called Ark to confirm this. Instead I used the logic that if the springs that are up front were in back the car would sit just as high as stock or higher due to no weight being in the rear.

Correct, the V8 are a little heavier in comparison to V6, the difference in front drop was (iirc) about ½ inch, the weight of G80 Sport is somewhere between v6 and v8, the difference is ~200lb each model: V8 ~4700 V6 ~4350 V6 sport ~4500, so you car should sits "much" lower. No way those front springs are going to settle, something isn't right.

Here is another picture for comparison, he is the member of our forum as well, we met at his house and his V6 AWD is lowered on GT-S springs (mine wasn't lowered at that time)

Dareckibmw,

Thanks for that picture. That pretty much confirms something isn't right. I'm going to give Ark a ring tomorrow.

No problem. Copy those pictures and send them to ARK, so they can see where the problem is. I'd suggest, you have everything in writing. Communicate only thru emails.

Thanks for the heads up because I was going to call.

Ground isn't level but you get the idea. I haven't taken any real pics yet since I'm not satisfied with the overall stance yet.

Smooth: Agree that something definitely doesn't look right. Would be curious to hear what ARK says about that! Hope you can get it worked out soon.

Random question: I have been searching for the part # for the mud guards that fit the Sport. My understanding is that the fronts are the same as the non-Sport models, but the rears are unique. Do you have a part # or source?

Hey Chewbakarox...what wheels did you go with. Looks nice with that drop. I had the GTS on my 2013 genny but those things settle like crazy and have been wondering about getting the GTF’S for my 2015 as I just ordered rims myself.

Butta - I am still on the stock 19" OEM Sport wheels. But I have ordered 20" Work Zeast ST1. They are on order being manufactured in Japan. Takes months for them to arrive - counting the days......

They replied but haven't offered any solutions. I guess I'll reply one more time to see if they have any ideas. If that doesn't go anywhere I'm just going to cut a half a coil out of the front and be done with it.

As for the mud flaps I don't see any part numbers on any of the papers when I bought the car....sorry man.

Too Smooth: Any update from ARK? Curious if they were able to get it worked out for you.

Chewbakarox:

They think the springs are mounted upside down because they had a batch of springs where the logo was printed incorrectly but that doesn't compute to me. I say that because I think the springs are linear versus progressive. If they were progressive and mounted upside down I could see the level being slightly different if mounted wrong but being linear the spring rate is the same regardless of mounting direction. So bottom line is they haven't replied back to be since the 14th. I'm not wasting my time to take them off and flip them only for the car to remain at the same height. If I take them off I'm cutting half a coil or so. Now if someone else has a good argument on the mounting direction I'm all ears.

Tell me this please...which direction are your springs mounted based on the picture dareckibmw posted above?

Let me try and check this for you over the weekend....sorry to hear it is still unresolved!

Too Smooth: I took a peek over the weekend. All the springs on my care are oriented so the ARK label is right-side-up.

FWIW, I thought my rear gt-f springs were upside down because the part number was upside down. I flipped them, and there was no change in ride height.

If you plan on selling the OEM wheels, I would love a crack at them.

Chewbakarox and Parisgrey: Thanks for the info!

HiLandR: Not to change the topic too much but I'm open to selling but preparing them for shipping to Missouri doesn't sound like a lot of fun. If you want to discuss this it's probably best to send me a private message.
