  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G90 Owners - What did the Genesis replace for you?

2019 CT6 Prem Lux, with Super Cruise. The car was great in some ways (engine, ride, handling) but missed the mark in others, especially with re: to tech. The Super Cruise feature was amazing when it worked, which was only sometimes. Other tech features turned on an off at random too. Ultimately, this is why I ditched it for the G90.

I find the G90 to be as powerful and more luxurious, with a better transmission and fit and finish. Alas, the G90's self-driving feature is far less accurate than Super Cruise (when SC worked, of course). I notice that the G90 also experiences intermittent tech re-sets or changes not initiated by me, and the radio can't be pre-set to the driver's order of preference. Also, I find the nanny-like features, such as seat belt pre-tensioning and auto-stop when it perceives any obstruction whatsoever, to be quite annoying. These features should be at the driver's option, especially at this price point. Overall, the G90 is still a great value for the money.

2011 F150 FX2 Ecoboost. Still functions as my secondary car but the 2019 G90 Ultimate is my daily driver

Had a 2009 Jaguar XF. It was one of my favorite vehicles of all time. Sexy design, smooth ride, hard charging performance. My Genesis 5.0 had a lot of the same characteristics. The G90 is a whole different level - and of course Jag has abandoned what made it desirable (in my mind). I love my G90!

Lincoln MKX 2017, which might qualify as the strangest upgrade in this conversation, but let me explain...
Some dolt reversed into me and ruined the front of my SUV. It survived a refit but it's never the same car, is it? So I released her into the wild of the local auctions and decided it was time to purchase a newer 'proper' car before the choices narrowed even more. It was the usual test drives of the S Class, the 7 series, the Maserati 4 door, the Panamera, and the LS. Strangely, the cars that I had the highest expectations of delivered the least enjoyable experiences. I came to the '19 G90 with hardly a beating heart but once inside it called to me in ways the others didn't. The full package. 'Car and Driver' said the same. Maybe this will see me for a year or two before upgrading to the newer style. But even tho' the new M5 EV is getting rave reviews it still only has a maximum range of 270 miles btwn charges, which means I'd leave St. Petersburg for Miami and end up stranded on Crocodile Alley - good luck finding a charging station there. If I won the lottery a Bentley would be my preference, but as I haven't, then my G90 will keep me going until I do.

2018 BMW 750

Sounds like a natural progression with the new Genesis G80. How do the two compare?
I considered all comparable vehicles when I finally made the decision to get the G90, and thus far, I haven't regretted it. In my very humble opinion, the G90 has better build quality than the 750 had, and the materials look and feel just as good, if not better. My 750 had almost every option, and was $112,000 new. The G90 has even more equipment for almost $40,000 less, so it's a no-brainer. I will say, though, that there are a couple of nits to pick.

First, in the BMW, certain settings could be made permanent, such as the brake hold feature, which I find very useful, but others may disagree. On the G90, I have to turn it on each time I drive it. However, once it's on, it is superior to the same feature on the BMW because it's not intrusive. Depending on how much one pushes the brake pedal, it will allow the car to stop and then creep forward when needed, or it can be fully engaged by pushing the pedal a bit harder, similar to the pump of the brake pedal one would do in a Mercedes. That's the best of both combined. On the BMW, every time the car came to a complete stop, including when attempting to parallel park, it would fully engage, which made it a bit annoying.

There are other things I didn't (and still don't) like about the G90. One is the "tick-tock" of the turn signal which (to me) is a bit too loud and annoying. Another source of annoyance was the incessant announcement of upcoming traffic light cameras; that nearly drove me insane. I still don't know how I managed to turn it off, but at least that is no longer bothering me. One final convenience feature that can be intrusive is the automatic trunk opener. I much prefer to decide when and if I want to open the trunk, instead of it opening for me (whether I want it or not) if I'm near the back of the vehicle. I was recently helping my elderly father walk to the passenger side door, and we crossed behind the G90 in the parking spot, triggering the trunk to open. Normally, if that were to happen when I'm by myself, I would quickly move away from the vicinity and the warning beep would stop. This time, I couldn't move faster, so the trunk opened. I know...first world problems, but annoying nonetheless.

One final comparison comes to mind: the engine and transmission. I opted for the 5 L V8, as I feel the power delivery from a N/A V8 is much smoother than that from a forced-induction V6. When called upon to accelerate, the G90 will no doubt move, but it seems to always be in the wrong gear and have to downshift in order to get moving, especially when merging onto a highway. That's something the BMW did much better. It too needed to downshift at times, but I recall it had more torque to allow it to more effectively speed up and merge, whereas the G90 seems to already be in too high a gear and gets bogged down, triggering the downshift. I tend to drive my cars gently, so I don't go racing around town, but knowing this about the car's behavior, I occasionally use the paddles and shift down to a more appropriate gear while entering the on-ramp so as to be prepared to move if needed, but even in this scenario, if I take a little too long to jump on it, it will upshift and take the wind out of my sails. Again, it is not the way I usually drive so it's not that big of an issue. I anticipate, adjust and continue to enjoy the G90.

*Just remembered and edited the post to include this. The air conditioning. When outside air is allowed into the cabin, the filter does a very poor job of keeping odors (and I'm assuming particulates) from entering the cabin. Outside smells (exhaust fumes from other vehicles, etc.) get in. In the BMW and in my current other vehicle, no odors ever come through. I therefore have to keep the A/C in recirculate mode and remember to occasionally let outside air in to refresh the cabin.

Having had many different luxury cars through the years, including some very high-end vehicles, and being quite picky about fit, finish and performance, I have to say that the G90 was a good purchase. I'm approaching my 1 year anniversary of ownership, so time will tell if this was ultimately a good buy. Now, all I'm worried about is the first service. Without attempting to sound snobbish, with my other car, I'm used to a certain level of attention and quality of work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be acceptable.

For those interested, this was the 750 I replaced with the G90. I've yet to take "glamour shots" of the G90.

Uh... it's only a problem if you keep it on. The auto trunk open feature was one of the first I disabled when I bought my G90 because I knew I would be washing and Zainoing my car. I don't need this feature so I never enabled it again.

True, but I may have both hands involved in carrying a box of groceries, etc., and there's no foot-activated opener, so I have to keep mine on. When I don't intend to open the trunk, I simply stay far enough away as to not trigger it. We all adjust according to our needs.

Mine doesn't do that? Do you wash your car while the car is locked?

With cars like the Lincoln Continental/Town Car and Cadillac Fleetwood, DeVille, DTS, CT6 gone from America, the G90 is an impressive way to get that experience (only better). What vehicle did you have before the G90?
2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited before that 2016 Murano Platinum before that 2015 Mercedes E350.
