  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I posted this in the Bluetooth/GPS/Electronics subforum 2 weeks ago and have received no responses, so I'm taking the liberty of posting here. Hope that isn't violating any forum rules.

New 2016 Ultimate. When I connect my S7 Edge it pairs immediately and everything is fine until it starts downloading contacts. It says it is downloading contacts and then disconnects the phone. It then reconnects, starts downloading again, and then disconnects again. This goes on continuously.

The only way I am able to get it to stop disconnecting is to disable data sharing in the phone's bluetooth options for the car connection. The phone then connects normally and stays connected. But every time I start the car it tries to download contacts and I have to tell it not to try again.

I've also tried:
1) Connecting via USB with the exact same results and
2) Bluetoot File Transfer app (finds the service but cannot connect)

Has anyone experienced anything similar and if so is there a work-around or fix? Thanks much in advance.

Allan,
A search through Google for similar problems indicated that emptying the Contacts cache on the S7 Edge might help resolve the problem.

Hi Bob. I've searched through Google several times and somehow missed that. I've tried pretty much everything else but not that - I'll give it a go - thanks.

When the contact download attempts to start, some phones will post a message in the notification bar asking if it is OK to share contacts with the car. Answering yes will allow it to proceed, if you miss the message it may eventually time out and refuse the download.

I would try deleting the pairing info in the car and the phone; then try it again and keep an eye out for the sharing message in the notification bar at the top of the phone's screen.

I have a S7 Edge and it is working fine for me. As the post above mentioned all I had to do is accept the permissions when asked on the phone. I then added to trusted devices.

Hope you can get it figured out.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
With all due respect, accepting the permissions is basic - though I appreciate the responses.

Bob - didn't work, but worth the shot - thanks anyway :)

Have you tried to backup the phone and do a factory reset on the phone? Seems kind of an obvious step but I didn't see it mentioned.

No, and I prefer not to. But I've booted to safe mode (which is just as good) with no success :(

Allan,
If you've already tried what I'm going to suggest, I apologize.

Have you made sure that all phone pairings and previous contact lists have been deleted? You mentioned that your dealer paired his phone to the car. If it's still there it could be causing the some confusion.

If you have deleted all Bluetooth pairings and contact lists and then re-paired your phone and it still doesn't work, I think I'd be talking to Samsung about it since your dealer's phone was able to pair and work correctly.

Good luck.

Good advice. When in doubt, flush everything and start all over. Also, go get someone else's phone (different make/model) and see if it works properly with your car. If it does, see if the other person's car will pair and correctly load your Edge's contacts. You'll then know whether you have a phone problem, a car problem, or a compatibility issue between a particular model combination of phone and car.

It’s been some time but I remember there was a Hyundai customer phone number for problems with blue tooth pairing. Other than that I would look into the possibility that the latest NAV update might correct the problem since other improvements are usually associated with the update such as blue tooth pairing and voice recognition. Since that phone is a new model and the pairing systems are not as recent it’s a strong possibility that could be the problem. The car is new but it probably doesn't have the latest update.

Yes, I've deleted the phone and repaired multiple times (and of course the dealer's phone as well). Thanks anyway :)

As said before the only way to isolate this problem is testing anothe phone, if it works with other phone the problem its in your GS7, if not, the fault is in your head unit.

I'm sorry that didn't work for you. Once again if you've tried this, please forgive me for asking, but when you deleted the pairings did you delete them on both the car and the S7 Edge to give yourself a "clean slate" on both devices?

The only other thing I can think of is if you have over 999 contacts, that will cause a problem. Also, I've seen some comments about the way each contact is named can cause a problem and the only way to fix that is go through the contact list on the phone and edit the contacts. Unfortunately, I don't remember what the specific issue was with the contact names that caused an issue.

Your problem seems to be when it hits a specific point it is thrown into a loop, so there might be a specific contact that is causing the problem...just a guess.

I'm truly at a loss for anymore suggestions other than to contact Samsung and Hyundai for support.

You can contact Hyundai at:

EMAIL
consumeraffairs@hmausa.com

PHONE
(800) 633-5151
English: Mon - Fri 5:00am - 7:00pm PST
Sat-Sun, 6:30am-3:00pm PST

And for Samsung the information for Chat, E-mail, Phone support is listed on this page:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/generic/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge

Your carrier may also have a support site specific to your S7 Edge.

And, what danygenesis posted above would be a good idea, too.

Along with what the other guys are suggesting, try this: first back up all your phone contacts to your carrier, a cloud, or a computer. Then, delete ALL of them from your phone. Enter one contact into your phone manually and see if you can download it to your car. If not, you've got a phone/car conflict and need to get Hyundai involved.

If, however, the single contact goes in OK, then selectively restore your backed-up contacts to your phone (5 or 10 at a time) and download each group or the cumulative contact list to the car. When you get to the group containing the "sticky" one (car won't accept the whole group), isolate the problem contact, enter its info manually into the car's list, and carry on restoring and downloading the rest of your contacts to the phone and then to the car. Wrap things up by deleting the problem contact and re-entering its info manually to your phone. You should then have the ability to download your entire contact list to your car at will. The procedure will be more or less tedious depending on number of contacts, but it should work. Good luck.

I don't have any contacts stored on the phone, they are all in my google account. They upload to the car fine. Maybe it makes a difference if they are in the phone itself or in a cloud account? My phone is an LG G4, but previous android phones worked the same.

Same problem with my Google Nexus 6p. Works fine with two other phones (iPhone 6s and SE). I have the ultimate. Pretty much just leave the option unchecked in phone bluetooth settings for contact sharing. My contacts are stored in cloud also - through google account. I dunno *shrugs*
