  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G70
After my typical research, test drives, forum reading, I pulled the trigger on a G70 3.3T RWD Prestige Himalayan Gray / Gray Interior. Finding one in the evolving dealer network and supply chain remains a challenge, so when I found one at Safford Genesis in Springfield Virginia, I bought it. One tip, don't trust the dealer / Genesis.com descriptions of the cars in inventory. Check the window stickers online to be sure. You may find, as I did, a car with the specs you want.

A couple initial thoughts:
1. I thought I wanted an AWD, but after driving the RWD with LSD, I found I preferred the feel of the RWD. I'll order a winter tire package from Tire Rack for the cold months. I have my Jeep SRT if anything serious comes along (I run Pirelli Scorpion winter performance tires November to March on the Jeep).
2. I thought I wanted the Sport package. After driving the Sport / Prestige back-to-back, I felt the Prestige is a better option for Washington DC metro area roads.
3. I looked at the Stinger as well, did their track experience earlier this year, and was sold on the 3.3T drivetrain. Liked both cars, the G70 was a better fit.

Congratulations!!! Mine is coming soon.

FYI...AWD has advanced LSD.

It drives like RWD until needed otherwise. That’s why I went for that.

Also...the Sport has drive options same as Prestige. Not sure what you mean there.

Enjoy and post pics!!!

Curious...did they go below MSRP? They had a glitch where cars were 4.6% below MSRP. They said if you saw that online...they would honor it which is awesome. I did screenshots of all their inventory as proof. This was a week ago.

Sounds like you got a winner. Enjoy it.

Wish I had seen that glitch. I got a little below MSRP, nothing to write home about. I wasn't in a position to wait the pricing out, had to replace my daily driver due to an unexpected safety problem. Took the chance to upgrade big time. The Gray / Gray combination was one that both my wife and I liked.

I found that "Comfort" in the Sport was still firmer / more responsive to road imperfections than Comfort with the Prestige suspension. I believe the Automobile reviewer found the same thing,

You're right, the G70 AWD has the LSD (unlike the Stinger, if I remember correctly). It may be subjective, it also may be the lower weight without the AWD, but the RWD seems to have a different feel than the AWD cars. The LSD gives me the traction I want without the extra weight. Not a scientific answer, a matter of personal preference.

On tires, Road and Track's recent characterization of All Season tires as "No Season" tires, plus my experience with the Pirelli winter performance tires, means I'll go through the hassle of the twice a year change from summer tires / wheels to winter tires / wheels.

Should be more than adequate for Northern Virginia. I'd make a different call further North.

Enjoy the new car and best of luck with it!

Yes, the lower weight will have slightly better turn in and feel more toss-able. You should definitely be fine with winter tires in that area. I've been driving in Chicago winters since 2006 in a lowered GTI most of those years and even in 5-6" of snow on the roads, I was fine with just FWD and good snow tires. If I lived in the mountains, yes, AWD+snow tires for sure. But, you have a badass SUV for those situations on snow tires.:D

A GTI has been on my wish list for years, particularly the R version. Not an option as far as my wife is concerned. I'll just have to suffer with the G70...

I went to school in the Midwest, so I appreciate the winters there. Because our winters are relatively mild, you see people with summer tires trying to make it through our near freezing winter mix and occasional snow. It is not pretty. People here will actually abandon their cars in our winter weather event, just leaving them by the side of the road, or in the travel lanes themselves.

The performance winter snow tires are quite good now, so it is unlikely to be a problem. As you note, the Jeep can handle anything serious -- as long as the snow doesn't get to deep. The SRT front end was designed for speed, not ground clearance.

Congratulations! I see you posted this Saturday night. Did you buy the car on Saturday? If so, I wonder if we were there at the same time. I flew up to DC on Saturday to pick up the G80 I purchased earlier in the week. I was there from about 2:00 - 5:00 Sat. afternoon.

We overlapped. I got there a little before 5:00. You may have seen them driving the G70 I bought out of the showroom. I thought I saw a prepped G80 as I was leaving on my test drive.

Hope you are enjoying your G80 as much as I am enjoying my G70.

Oh, that's funny. I didn't see them taking your G70 out of the showroom, but I did get a chance to sit in it and admire it for a few minutes earlier in the afternoon. Beautiful car! If I didn't need a bigger backseat area to regularly transport my elderly parents around town, I definitely would have bought a G70 instead of my G80. But I'm perfectly happy with the G80 and enjoyed my ride back down to Miami Saturday night and Sunday.

The reason I was hanging out in the showroom before leaving is that when I saw my G80 I noticed that they had put a Safford Auto sticker on the left rear of the car. I told my salesman that I didn't mind the Safford license tag frame (at least temporarily), but I wanted that sticker removed from the car itself before I drove it off the property.

Long drive in the G80. I would have gone with the G80 as well if I had the rear seat requirement you do. You see quite a few G80s on the road in the DC area.

I notice the dealer sticker after I got home. Tasteful for a dealer sticker (metallic lettering I silver), but it will succumb to my heat gun this weekend.

Congratulations on your new cah. Just turned 2500 miles on mine. Still have to get used to driving >8 car lengths away from the guy in front of me on the highway.

Tough choice between the Sport and the Prestige. The Prestige gives you more interior options. I really like the light gray seats, headliner, door panels and the black dash, carpet, lower half of the doors, etc. Lights up the interior but hides dirt where it is most likely to appear. Here are a few photos. My winter wheels are posted on one of the winter tire threads (Enkei Vulcans).

Sport has every option. Unless you mean options in color variations, etc.

That's what I meant, when I last looked at the configurator the Sport only gave you the choice of a black interior with gray or red stitching. No option for other interior colors.

Correct :)

Pictures with the Enkei Vulcans are on the Winter wheel & tire packages? thread.
