This is not a thread to project the reliability of this engine, more so just observations I have found looking into the engine. It is much to early to figure out if this is a good engine or not.
Just wanted to make some notes. Upon looking into the 2.5T engine currently in the Genesis line-up it is a cousin to but not the same engine as the 2.5T in the Hyundai line-up. First of all it is a RWD engine vs. the FWD one of the latter. This is not where the differences stop and I think the improvements to this engine will help prolong its life.
Going forward the Genesis 2.5T engine will be called FR G4KR
Going forward the Hyundai 2.5T will be called G4KP

- Upon a tare down diagram the FR G4KR used in the Genesis line up has both GDi and MPi fuel injector setup. This means less carbon build up, and paired with higher premium of gas should keep the engine running nicely. In comparison the G4KP only uses a GDi fuel injection system and has been prone to carbon build up issues.
- 10.5:1 compression ratio on the FR G4KR vs. 10.0:1 compression ratio on the G4KP used in the Hyundai line-up. This higher compression ratio could be taken both ways. Higher stress which comes with a higher compression ratio usually would correlate less engine life. However, with the higher compression in this engine it should push out carbon build up and hopefully the engineers strengthened the aluminum composite engine block.
- There is a timing chain guide in the diagrams I was looking at for the FR G4KR. This should prevent premature timing chain wear and tare. A fix over old Hyundai designs such as the 2.4L engine. I couldn't find a diagram of the G4KP to check for a timing chain guide.
