  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis 2010 intelligent key lost

Why doesn't the Genesis just have a physical key that the driver's inserts into the ignition? While it is VERY old to have a car that cranks from the front, a physical key seems better than the newer electronic key. It is easier to put the key on the roof and then drive away than forgetting to remove the key from the ignition. Furthermore, the physical key is cheaper to reprogram. Lastly, the present system only allows two keys to a car. If you want three or more, you cannot.

Well, it does effect usage - you can't restart the car if you leave the key behind, and the car does warn you. Imagine you left the key on the roof, started driving, and the key flew off at 40 mph - would it make sense that the car just shut down in the middle of the road? Seems dangerous to me...

Most other cars go into "valet/limp" mode from what I understand. 30Mph limit, no more than 1/3/5 miles, etc, no restarting. I've even heard of, but can't seem to find any info - so maybe it was false, electronic keys that when the physical key for trunk/glove are remove - the key is in "valet" mode which limits speed and distance.

I just think it's silly that if my car is in park, and the key isn't inside it, that it can shift out of park. That doesn't make much sense, and would be fairly easy to stop.

Just wanted to follow up - I did a test. It definitely doesn't effect the car in any way to have the key out. You can drive miles away with 0 issue. Completely retarded, IMO. I don't see why they missed such a great security opportunity - the car knows when the key is out - why can't it limit usage or shut off like a remote start?

What if you drive through some radio interference? You want the car to shut down? I don't.

someone told me to put extra key fob in trunk in a lead xray film bag and the metal key on my key ring ???? so if you lose the key you open the car go to the trunk and drive away --never did it don't know if car will start with key in trunk bag or not but it beats having to get towed to dealer or go home and get extra key ???--- if anyone has done this let me know thanks ikeym

I dunno - with a fob that you supposedly never have to take out of your pocket, what are the chances of loosing it? I ended up not connecting it to the rest of my keychain, so its a non-issue for me, but thats just my situation.

Sure. Once you're in gear, I understand... but when the car is in park? Why should it let me shift out of park if they key isn't in the car? That's just a mindnumbingly stupid lack of security.

Personally, though, I've never seen any radio interference that made my car think the key wasn't in the car. I live in NYC, fwiw.

Hi Everybody, Just wanted to let you know how we resolved the situation with the lost key.

We ended up buying a used key from ebay, went to the dealership and told that one of the keys is not working anymore. As the car is still on the warranty, the dealership reprogrammed all the keys for us under the warranty and we didn't have to pay for it.

I know it's our fault that we left the key on the roof, but I still think that Hyundai could have done something to prevent such situations when the car starts without any warning signs with the key left out of the car...

I also found a device on one of the websites that allows to search for a lost key within 100 ft radius (not sure about the footage though). That might help those who lost the key recently.

Take care!
