*****Genesis 2nd Generation Oil Pressure Sensor Issue ***** Already Recalled in Korea Since Nov, 2021

I enjoyed the watching the video, even though I did not understand even one word. It looks like the procedure is straightforward. Just remove this to remove that, etc. The sensor is in a difficult place to access. I'm confident the engineering team never expected it to fail so soon, but since it has, I understand Hyundai's reluctance to pay for this service. The cost of American dealer labor must seem absurd to the Korean management team, so they are in no hurry to replace the thousands of sensors in all of their 3.8 cars. When the sensor fails in one of my cars, I will remove the manifolds and replace it with a better quality part, if I can find one. What other alternative is there? Either we do it ourselves, or pay someone else to do it.

Had the same issue. Cost me $1000 to replace it (at the dealer). I think the part alone was $400.

For my 2016 Genesis it happened almost right after I had the oil change done. I have around 78K Miles on mine.

Exact same situation, After oil change on 68k, I did get nervous on first time, I stopped on side of the road to see any leaking is detected & brought it back to the dealer. They already knew the issue & ask me to spend over $900 at that time. I'm on 78k now & I'm so used to it, If light doesn't lid I get doubt.

Hi Gen Owners.
My gen started showing oil pressure light coming up a week after I got my oil change performed at the dealer & Dealer was saying it's common issue with my model & it's under 5yrs 60k warranty. It seems it's meant to broke after 60k for most of Gen Users. Mine is at 70k at this time.
I found some video on YouTube explaining how to replace & found some comment it was Recall in Korean Gen Owners. .

[소비자경보] 제네시스(DH, DH PE) 193,937대, EQ900(HI) 38,794대 무상 수리 리콜 - you might need to change the language to English.
It was recall in Korea Since Nov.2021 & our Genesis is made in Korea, which is affected with this issue.

Why Hyundai is not recalling this issue? View attachment 49061View attachment 49062it said anyone who replaced out of the dealer they can claim reimburse for the damage.
report it here and hope for reimbursement. If enough people with the problem report it, there's hope for a US recall: Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA

Just made a report. I was able to gather all the links in Google and forward it to them, including Korean Website where it said it's recalled in Korea

Are you saying you've been driving with the light on for ~10k miles? My light turned on earlier this spring at around 68k and it went away all summer then when we got our first freeze and now about 73k miles it turned on again. Its on at low rpms in the morning when it's coldest and rarely turns on in the afternoon when it's warmer. After finding out all this info I'm not feeling too concerned about it at the moment.

I'm now at 85k & still periodically turns on & off. It will not go away until you replace the sensor.
I’m hoping Hyundai will recall. Can't spend over $800 to $900 just for that sensor.

following... just happened here (right after an oil change at 98K)

I'm having the same oil sensor issues with a 2018 G90, 40k miles. I'm in Arizona and this just started as our weather got a little colder. Based on all of your responses, I'm also inclined to leave it go, but can't decide. Looking for current advice and suggestions. Thanks.

Just got my car back after getting this fixed so I thought I'd come back here for a quick update.

I took it to a reputable NAPA independent shop in my area. It was the oil pressure switch/sensor. Took 3 weeks (mainly because the first sensor they ordered arrived damaged and had to order another) and cost $1013 including the diagnostic. I also had them replace a leaky valve cover gasket and total cost was $1300. Obviously almost all of the cost is labor considering you have to break down the top half of the motor to get to the switch.. Luckily my MaxCare warranty covered it all and I only paid my deductible.

The genny was driving perfectly fine beforehand and would probably continue to do so since it was just the sensor in case anyone comes across this in a panic. But I got tired of looking at the light lol.

It is more than just a sensor. There is an electric valve in the oil pump that controls how much it is pumping. The PCM uses the reading from the oil pressure switch (part that was failing) to control that valve. Failure of the oil pressure switch likely results in the oil pumping harder than it has to sometimes (since the PCM thinks the oil pressure is lower than it really is), and that could result in faster wear of the pump and other parts.

My 2016 3.8 has 56000 Kilometers (just under 35000 miles) & so far oil light problem hasn't happened yet.
I changed the oil twice a year until last year when warranty expired now do in once a year due to low annual mileage.
Does oil change interval have any effect on light coming on? Does mileage have anything to do with this problem or is it just a crap shoot or
the luck of the draw.Would really like to keep it a few more years.
Anyone had this problem @ low mileage?

Hello, Royce
You will notice once you hit 70k or 80k. It's defective. Genesis g80 - Potential Oil Pressure Sensor Defect Identified - The Kalfayan Law Firm
In Korea was already recalled; as I mentioned earlier, I Contacted Hyundai Corporate & they answered that the U.S & Korea have different policies.
I traded my car last week for Carvana. It's expensive to maintain unless you're a mechanic.

Thanks for your reply.
I assume that you mean 70-80000 miles not kilometers?

Yes. I remember it happened to me after the oil change from the dealer at 73k & I got so nervous on the highway.
When I returned to the dealer, they already knew the problem. Hopefully, it doesn't happen to your gen; if it has, don't get nervous like me.

1. Oil Sensor Issue - $950
2. Fuel Module Issue - fixed
3, Parking Brake Issue (Recall) Started at 80K.
4. The left passenger door actuator broke (Can't open from inside/outside). It cost $850 to fix.

The above issues were happening to my gen & I was tired of visiting the dealer frequently.
When visiting the Hyundai dealer, make sure to search for the Recalls. If you don't tell them,, they won't fix it.

When did or have Genesis resolved the Oil Light issue? Which G80's & G90's & any other Genesis GV70 & GV80s
won't have this issue? I understand the 3.3 twin turbo,3.5 Twin Turbo ,3.8 & 5.0 engines all have this problem but up to what model year? I assume the 2.5T is not affected.

So all DH models but not 2021 & newer?
What about 2020-22 G90's?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The list shows models from 2013 to 2018. Of course, newer ones should be fixed since this is a defective oil sensor.
If you visit the dealer in the next few months, please look at the recalls, including the parking brake issue ( August 4, 2017 Recall)
This issue happened recently, and I decided to let go of my Gen due to the inconvenience of visiting a Hyundai dealer and the unkindness of the dealership advisor. I'm stress-free now & driving a car with four doors working. LOL

I just had to take my 2018 genesis g80 3.3T in due to oil pressure warning light intermittently coming on last week out of nowhere. Had the car from 24k miles and currently at 73k-ish miles and majority are highway, full synthetic oil changes every 6k miles, UTD on recommended maintenance and all recalls blah blah BLUF I'm a saint😇 Diagnostic identified shorted oil pressure switch, when they cracked open the engine all seals for fuel injectors were worn out so addtl +$100 and decided to replace the spark plugs as the labor was mutual for both jobs, Out the door $1531. That was Tuesday, turned on car this morning and was greeted by oil pressure warning light🤣🤣. I'm inspecting for gremlins or shenanigan enthused unicorns currently.
