  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I figured I'd let others who are shopping for new phones know in advance that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus does not pair with the my 2012 Genesis Sedan 3.8. I have contacted Hyundai as well as Samsung to let them know about the problem. It is hilarious how each company points the finger at the other! My HTC Evo 4G paired and worked flawlessly, as does my wife's iphone 4S. I tried my brother's new Samsung Galaxy IIS and it paired with the Genny as well. Hopefully a phone software update will fix this in the future!

As has been discussed in other threads, if you had phones that worked and your new phone doesn't, the issue is with the phone not the car and will ultimately be resolved by the phone manufacturer. They will deny the problem but then, magically, through a firmware update, the phone will start working. It has happened so many times with all the phone companies. Refer to an earlier thread from this week. When we got new Droid 3 phones they would randomly disconnect from my Genesis, my wife's BMW and the bluetooth receiver in my motorcycle helmet. Verizon and Motorola both claimed it was the car then all of a sudden the phone gets the latest update and the problem went away. Again this is not a Hyundai issue.

i also have a galaxy nexus and a 3.8. ill try pairing them later today and get back to you with my findings

I had the same problem, same car same phone. This forum is the only place that I could find some info, but it didn't have the solution. I figured it out though.

Reset the default bluetooth password on the car, which is 1234, to something else. I set mine to 0000 and the phone paired up and prompted for the password pretty easily after that. You can reset the car's BT password in the advanced settings menu.

I streamed music from Google Play Music to the Lexicon all the way home, and it transferred my contacts and placed a call with no problems.

Hello,
I have a 2010 Gen, and I am having a problem trying to pair my Samsung Brightness phone. If I change the password like you did to 0000 from 1234. Do you think, this will allow my phone to pair up with the system?
I just can't understand why it won't hook up. Does anyone know if their is a list of phones put out from hyundai that do work with the blue tooth system.

Thank you in advance for input for my problem.

Thanks for the link, Capt Steve. Just bought my Genesis yesterday and the poor salesman had such a hard time trying to "show me" how to pair my phone. Knowing that my phone, the Samsung Stratosphere, is a total piece of junk, I was sure it was a problem with my phone. Tried my friend's HTC Evo and my work Sprint i688 and it connected no problem.

Trouble is, I looked at that link and low and behold, my phone is listed as compatible. I'm now mulling over whether a phone call to Verizon is in order...Still have about 18 months left on this stupid phone and I'm wondering if I should just ditch it and get a new one.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Your phone type may have been compatible when Hyundai tested it... and since then a firmware change has broken it. Sometimes the firmware upgrades break things too. Bluetooth is one of the most poorly implemented communications protocols out there. Shamefully poor actually. It's not that complex a standard!

Success!

Well I started playing around with things yesterday...Changed the password on the car, did a factory reset on the phone, etc. I tried my old Motorola Droid with the car and while the first attempt to pair failed, the second one worked no problem. Synced the contacts right up, too. So then for the heck of it I tried pairing the Samsung again. First attempt: failure. Second attempt: success! Much to my surprise!

So now I've got full Bluetooth functionality between my Genesis and my Stratosphere. I just wonder how long it will last, after reading all the problems people have been having.

And I agree Mike, for a standard that is more or less required in many states to permit using the phone while driving, the technology just seems to be so...archaic. In this day and age, we're all used to everything just working: plug and play! Bluetooth seems to be so finicky and downright difficult to use, it's a wonder it's been this successful. Maybe all the state laws have something to do with that. But I can remember having trouble with my very first Bluetooth headset, and intermittent problems with nearly every other Bluetooth product since.

Oh well...I guess we've still got a long way to go when it comes to total convenience. That's probably a good thing though.

Hardware: 2010 2.0T Premium, Samsung Galaxy SIII 16GB

Since getting the phone Saturday, I have been unable to have the phone "see" the car. After joining the forum and reading (and using the Hyundai link included in this thread), it appears that my phone isn't compatible with the bluetooth system in my car. Seriously? I am posting this for one of two reasons: (a) to let anyone else know that this might be the case (firmware/OS updates notwithstanding (b) I'm wrong and someone can tell me that I'm wrong and how to fix the problem. I must say that I do find this a bit surprising.

Thanks -

B

You guys rock! Same car / phone. Changed the advanced setting to 0000 and the BT immediately connected. Only problem is that the contacts are not transferring. I've been disconnecting and reconnecting, but still only 5 contacts are showing. But it's a lot better than having no BT. Thx.

Glad you got it ironed out, mine got straightened out as well.

I can tell you this:

a) It was user error on my part, I had to tell the phone to look for the car (this threw me because this wasn't the case with the 2 prior devices I had paired)

b) I also had trouble with the contacts being transferred until someone informed me (on a Samsung Galaxy SIII forum) that when you get that message on the phone that says something like "Would you like to transfer contacts?" about 30 seconds after starting the car, if you select "Yes, and don't ask again" then it will download your phonebook by default every time you start the car.

I have also learned (and maybe this is obvious to others) that even though it takes almost 3 minutes to load the phone book (I have a good 800+ contacts) so you have to wait to voice-actuate anything, that you can dial from the phone (or contacts list) very shortly, once you get the Bluetooth icon appearing on your dashboard display -

Just got a Samsung Galaxy III and the phone paired to my car right away with no issues. Sure wished the tech pack in the '09's auto-synced the phone book from the phone to the car. This is the reason I only have maybe 10 contacts in my car system, as it is very time consuming to imput contacts in.

Many thanks for posting this; bought a 2012 Premium 3.8 last night and specifically wanted the ability to stream audio via BT. Neither I nor the salesman could get pairing working with my SPH-L700, but I figured buying a new phone would be cheaper than the upgrade to the 4.6 (and I still wouldn't get streaming). Drove my new car home, googled, and came straight to this thread. Worked perfectly, and I'm now a happy camper.
