If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis 3.8L RWD MPG?

3.8 RWD Tech. 7K miles. Last tank of regular per the car computer was 25.1 MPG. I would guess 50% city, 50% hwy. Use smart cruise on the hwy most of the time. Last car was G37X that would avg 21/22 MPG on same drive so I am happy.

I have AWD and with just over 2000 miles I'm getting between 25 and 28 MPG in mixed driving. I keep very good records and I check every 6 months to verify MPG (miles driven and gas consumed)
I noticed that Fuelly doesn't differentiate between standard or AWD...only 3.8 & 5.0

about how many miles are u getting per tank fill up, im usually at 300 miles per 17 gallon fill up on the 5.0.

what about u 3.8 rwd guya, how many miles per fill up

Just got 427 on the last tank

right but whats the average ? did u go on a long highway trip with no traffic ? or is that mixed hwy city?

the other guy on his fuelly log is coming in around 20 to 21 mpg mixed hwy city and thats about what i was getting on my former 3.8 the first 1500 miles

17.72 gallons to fill it back up

That is about my average ~24mpg. I do a lot of highway driving and can see 29 avg on a tank that is all highway.

8,000 miles on 2015 3.8 'Tech' sedan,...average mpg display is mostly 1.5 to 2 mpg optimistic re actual calc. SO averages 22- 24 around town. I have gotten actual 32 mpg on regular fuel on highway trips with careful driving, keeping speeds under 65 mph. On carefree highway trips driving 70 to 85 mph the worst I have averaged in east coast mountains is 27. My normal around town is @ 24 mpg actual calculated,...mostly highway under 80 mph gets 28-30 actual calculated.
Overall very impressed/happy with this car.

2015 3.8 has a 20+ gallon tank

I just completed a 1,300 mile road trip from Dallas to Birmingham. Two people in the car and fully loaded back seat and trunk. I got 29.7 mpg calculated with actual gallons used for the entire trip. I drive 75 on the Interstate using cruise control when possible. I also increase my cold tire pressure to 35 psi prior to any road trip.

As to use of premium vs. regular top tier gasoline, I can not discern a difference; if there is, it is less than .5 mpg. Certainly nothing to justify the 15-20% difference in price.

The Genny gets almost exactly one mpg less than my previous 2013 Avalon driven in the same manner. As the Genny weighs about 500 pounds more, I think this is a excellent return.

I get almost exactly the results through similar highway countryside in East Texas. Very pleased with mileage and performance.

I just realized my tires are at ~31 psi during sunny So-Cal high-pressure weather, and around ~26 psi during cloudy low-pressure weather... Do you think the air-pressure might hit my mpg? I am gonna inflate them to ~35psi this evening and see if I notice a difference.

Tire pressue does impact fuel mileage.

26 psi is way underinflated! Best to inflate to recommended (33 psi), check once a month and re-adjust with big swings in temps (certainly seasonally). Also, make sure you check/set pressure when the tires are cold.

Inflated the tires to 36psi a couple of nights ago, and wow what a difference! I can feel the road now... The tires sensors show 34psi right now. Excited to see if I see an increase in MPG. Thanks for the help :)
