  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis 5.0 Custom Exhaust

So...I got tired of waiting on Ark to fabricate something. Went down to the local exhaust shop and had some custom work done. Custom X-pipe with Aero performance mufflers.

The custom X-pipe by itself did absolutely nothing to the sound. So they removed the mufflers and voila, there's the deep V8 sound! Of course, I can't just drive around without mufflers (sounds like a straight pipe mustang). So they added the Aero performance mufflers to tune the exhaust.

However...it drones quite a bit. I DO NOT recommend this setup for daily driving. You'll rip your ears out. The sound can best be described as AMG-like, but on steroids. I'll make a better video sometime this weekend. Enjoy :)

Nice! First thing I did when I got my 5.0 was get rid of those silencers

I've said it time and time again, the best option is electronic cutouts.

You can choose any degree of loud from the stock quietness to what is essentially an open header. All this for essentially the cost of a basic muffler and mid pipe combo - except you don't have to worry about drone.

enjoy....

Wanted to do this but every shop I went to was scared to do so I ended up putting some flow master 40's

Oh yea, our 5.0s are way too quiet. Don't think I've ever been in a V8 that was this quiet lol. I commend Hyundai for creating the ultimate sleeper haha.

Do you have any videos of your setup? I'm planning on putting a new video up this weekend of a before/after :D

I have a custom 2.5 x pipe cat back system with dynomax mufflers... Had some drone in the beginning... But cleared up after about 1500 Miles

It'd be great to have video clips of all the options. I'm thinking of doing something with the exhaust as well.

Maybe I'll crack the pipes open a bit before the mufflers by throwing some washers in there to create a gap. I'd like it a bit louder but not loud enough to attract a lot of attention.

any sound clips with basic mufflers.. I read some have the flow master 40 and dynomax.. I myself was just looking for a muffler replacement like magnaflow .. something with a little rumble but not obnoxious... Where are the so called silencers located? can those just be removed?

Yea I have a sound clip, before and after revving. Just need to edit the video before posting on youtube.

thanks, i just heard it... Need a longer rev and accelerating video... sounded good.. is that all yu replaced was the rear mufflers? thanks buddy

Yup a cheap fix, $350 total with installation. Best $350 I spent because the attention it now gets after all the attention it was all ready getting is 10x's! I got pulled over and the cop asked me before leaving was to rev it up....lol. I'll try to record something tomorrow.

so $350 for just cutting and welding on mufflers? seems kinda high... Hows the cabin noise?

Thats for 2 dual mufflers, removal and installation. I know I can get it done cheaper put you always get what you pay for. Inside cabin noise is definitely a difference from stock so its loud but once you get use to it you barely hear it.
WARNING you will lose gas milage from wanting to step on that pedal all the time lol
