  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis 5.0 r spec tuning opportunity!!!

That’s the problem, engine has potential but no one can get into the ecu codes like a GM unit. Without that happening everything is minor increases except for NOS. LAP and others tried but little results. My unit was test bed for LAP, great guys to work with but only got 15+rwhp and only able to take advantage of the over rich mixture at top end built into the ecu. Gave up because potential costs vs sales to try to work it out. They were able to decode the V6 Stinger with a new ecu in 6 months with monster gains, so they know what they are doing. I found, to my suprise, that if I beat it hard and use 93 + oct boast I get trans to shift @ 7000 in first 3 gears. An engineer friend told me that the factory throttle body openings flow large enough up to 7200rpm and no need to enlarge. Same for injectors. Apparently there are engineering formulas for all this stuff. This is without adding supercharger/ turbo which would chg everything if you could get into ecu mapping.
I got into contact with David Lee the tuner for Hyundai in South Korea. He is developing me
The worlds first nitrous tune for the 5.0 tau. I gave him my plans for the car as well like headers and intake etc... and we decided to pull 2° timing at wot for a 125 shot. I suspect total na gains to be somewhere around 20-30rwhp along with a safe tune to spray 125. As well as a transmission tune. All together I’m looking at safely adding 155 hp to my genesis 🙃 wonder where that will set me at to the wheels total. Will find a dyno and post results when I get the tune (could take months as this is custom and the worlds first ((words of David Lee))

Going through 10fintec but here it is

That's freaking awesome! Yes I actually received an email from David yesterday regarding my ecu and TCU being shipped to me. Covid is delaying the shipping issues along with him being a pretty busy guy. You will be the first to push that much power through the tau in the world! I cannot wait for the progress.

Oh we are going fast in the genny without a coyote/ls swap! Big thanks to David for being so patient with me too because it was a bit of back and forth with what I wanted and he could do safely.I think the results are going to surprise a lot of people. In it to win it! I’ll keep everyone updated when the tune get installed and a dyno dAte is made

So much for the Canadian company that took over BTRs tunes saying that Lee had retired. Good he’s back. Hope he massages the tune to take out the idiosyncrasies of the original that plagued some 5.0s. Great hope and as I stated year ago, NOS only way to get real power! Waiting for great results in a few months. Keep us informed!

Oh Lee is for sure not retired lol he is very responsive too! I sent a video of my 4.18 rear diff swap acceleration asking a question about an issue that bothers me. Within minutes he responded to what the issue may be

how is your diff swap that's really cool you did it.

Nice to finally see a decent aftermarket push from the owners. I for one am super happy with my ECU tune from 10fintec. My 100-200 kph times have improved by almost a full second and I can now pull on scat pack charger/challengers and manual 18+ mustangs. And that's all without the TCU tune which will help the top end even more.

It was pretty easy. The gears are much more usable believe it or not. The only issue is the torque management limits you because it reads a higher torque amount to the wheels. So let's say you accelerate in first gear WOT. You could literally feel torque management kick in even if the traction light doesn't flash. By second gear your head is pinned to the seat. First gear it feel like it only is allowing maybe 70% of power. The tune I ordered should clear that issue up.

welcome Ali. Guys so far Ali is the fastest officially logged gen so far 12.6 at 114+mph this was before being tuned with very minor mod

That’s my 1/4 run bone stock with muffler deletes. Hitting 12.6 is going to be light work on spray

That's easily gonna be a low 12 with the spray. The best I can get due to traction issues is 13.08 current mods are muffler delete, xpipe, 4.18 diff and custom ram air intake

May want to look up Traction Comcepts LSD conversions. Told they can be used in the Gen 5.0 & 4.8 rear ends.

I’m going to do a few test hits this weekend and see what I can do. That’s impressive I didn’t know we could hit flat 13’s with these

I think my r spec already has LSD diff

This is a true LSD Rear end Internal conversion, not 5.0’s electronically braked. Apparently doesn’t interfer with the computer control since rear drive wheels get similar traction, so sensors don’t interfer, just like a GM posi.

I'm sure. Diff swap I did only required the 3.8 axles

This system uses your original rear end pumpkin internals and adds a simple internal gearing locking mechanism that makes the rear end a true mechanical LSD once torque is applied. Axles are not disturbed -what ever you are using doesn’t matter, nor does it change your rear end diff ratio.

Oh nice! I will look into that
