  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GENESIS ANNOUNCES ALL-NEW 2021 GENESIS G80 PRICING; STARTS AT COMPETITIVE $47,700

Where are you getting this information from?
Genesis is looking to set up 120 stand alone dealerships by 2024.

The high number of dealers has been discussed on here many times and is one of the current problems with the dealer network. They need to cut the number of dealers and increase the quality of the experience.

I spent many, many hours tracking the dealer rollout and the information comes from Genesis corp. Here is an extract of the data from today and there are 355 dealers on the list.

Kinda misleading. In the Chicago area, all those listed are Hyundai dealerships. No exclusive Genesis dealers here.

No, not misleading at all. Those are all Genesis dealers that happen to be co-located with a Hyundai dealer. No Hyundai dealers are allowed to sell new Genesis vehicles starting with the 2019 model year. They must all be licensed Genesis dealers to do so. Whether they have a separate facility, which there may be a handful, has nothing to do with it. Genesis dropped the requirement for separate buildings for their dealers.

A building with 5 or more Hyundais displayed and 1 G70 is not a Genesis dealer in my humble opinion.

To add to that, those are the ones merely licensed to sell and work on Genesis products. They don't necessarily have a full lineup. I live in the midwest, and a "Genesis" dealership near me had only two new base model G70s on sale in the entire lot- one of which was in the pathetic tiny "showroom" tucked in some corner overshadowed by their lineup of Sonatas.

I guess maybe you can understand then why many of us have been saying they need to somehow get rid of the under and poor performing dealers. That said, the number of vehicles they have has nothing to do with whether they are a dealer or not.

That would be the definition of a dealer. ;) Feel free to come back with whatever you would like but I'm not going to bite on your usual immature, trolling drivel. Have at it.

I disagree.

Where did I say otherwise? But if you think that's acceptable enough for a dealership, go tell your local BMW dealer to cut their entire lineup down to two cars on their lot.

The guy attacking me for no reason for a post that wasn't even quoting him is calling me an immature troll? :ROFLMAO:

Go back to Bimmerpost dude. You clearly enjoy trash-talking Genesis, and don't care for their efforts, so why do you still stick around?

There is no room for disagreement. If Genesis say they are a dealer then by definition they are a Genesis dealer.
Semantics, they are Hyundai stores that sell Genesis vehicles. SK can say whatever they want.

No...it’s a Hyundai dealer and a Genesis dealer owned by the same person...and they choose to coexist. Two separate franchise licenses.

That is 100% fact.

Can't disagree with that. Still only 1 store and 1 GM.

But in the meantime they have plenty of Hyundai/Genesis dealers. I saw a number a while back of 400+. Many should not be though.

My local dealer...owner also had Maserati and Alfa Romeo in one building. He got rid of both. He is slowly turning it into a true stand alone Genesis dealer. When done...he’ll separate and move his Genesis there and keep Hyundai as is.

Can’t wait!

You guys keep comparing Genesis to German cars, screw German cars, they're designed to last the duration of a typical lease term, then they start going wrong left and right, and they cost a fortune to repair, and you can't even change the oil on those cars, have to go to the dealer just to replace a battery...
On the other hand, Korean cars are designed for the long haul, because they all have 10/100,000 powertrain warranty, even the basic warranty is above all other manufacturers at 5y/60,000 miles, and their tech is great and intuitive, can you say the same about German cars, or Lexus...
My only choice is Korean cars, I'm done with every other brands.

Although my buying experience for my G90 was superb, I agree the brand should have it's own independent-looking/operating showrooms with dedicated personal. I say "independent-looking" because I don't really care if it's the same owner, can even be on the same lot - just provide the luxury experience that Merc or Audi do. A personal touch, instant service, etc.

Their 5 year concierge service is a worthy experiment, but it doesn't really solve the initial buying issue. You want to kick the tires on a lot of vehicles even before the test drive. You veto most without ever going on a test drive, right? Too small, feels cheap inside, price. I don't want to set appointments to power thru this step. I want to hit up 3 or 4 dealers I've been researching, on one day.

So, they need good luxury showrooms for us to go see their cars, with knowledge staff on hand.

My dealership is good. They have a different floor for Genesis, dedicated staff, dedicated service management, and dedicated techs to do any work. They absolutely try to make you feel more special than a regular Hyundai owner.

Is this as a good an experience as a separate showroom? No, but it's close.

Pretty spot-on. That's the thing that all these arguments of "why would you ever consider a Genesis when you can get some German car for 30% off the pricetag or some nutty lease deal?" seem to completely miss. Even if the tech is similar now between the new G80/GV80 and the Germans, you still have that net for a longer warranty in case anything goes wrong. Resale value is generally better, and the cars are more intuitive in their layout. The designs are unique, and performance wise the newest models seem to be on par with their German rivals on paper. Genesis knows they have a competitive product, in a segment where $5-$10K doesn't make a huge difference for its target buyer. Like the Telluride and Palisade, they're betting on themselves making a desirable product rather than a value one.

The dealership situation is painful because it's scaring off people from even looking at these cars, so they aren't given a fair chance. That's where Genesis needs to get their stuff together.

They're heavily discounting German sedans right now so you have to factor that in.

On 2021 models...really? Again compare apples to apples, comparing a two year old model that’s been sitting on a lot vs a brand new car that’s still in pre-order phase is absolute nonsense.

Your talking about Hyundai/Genesis dealerships...debate isn’t centred around some legal definition of the word dealer. It’s centered around the fact that the buying experience and availability for the G70, and how that compares to established luxury brands. Genesis as a brand doesn’t have nearly the footprint that Lexus, BMW, and Benz have.
