GENESIS ANNOUNCES ALL-NEW 2021 GENESIS G80 PRICING; STARTS AT COMPETITIVE $47,700

don't really remember what the sticker was. I paid $52,800 out the door, tax, license, fees, etc. (10% tax in L.A.) for a 2018 RWD Sport.

so my purchase price was right around $48K before all the fees, now I did buy toward the end of the 2018 year when the 2019s were around the corner, and then never really came because of the whole dealership debacle .. but still. $48k to $66k is a huge jump, even $55K to $66K is a huge jump for what? What exactly are we getting for that $12k-$14K jump? what is the advantage? The basic features and technology is the same, slightly bigger engine, massively larger grille, and a 1970s looking steering wheel.

Maybe the sport will be priced a bit less, maybe not.. If there is a sport.. seeing as the 3.5TT is in the Prestige my guess is the sport is DOA.

But if I am going to spend north of $65K on a vehicle I will go buy a vehicle with a proven dealership network and decent service.

While I personally haven't had an issue with the Hyundai dealership that services my 2018, I would not be able to use them for anything 2019 or newer and the closest official "Genesis" dealership to me is 31 miles in the opposite direction of where I travel for work, and has received some horrible reviews. I am not willing to travel that far out of my way for less than stellar service, if I want to be treated like cattle I will go by a Dodge or Chrysler, they are excellent at making their customer feel worthless after they rape you on the sale.

To be frank, in the current economy I my end up purchasing my 2018 at lease end, it all depends on how we bounce back from this socialist trial run.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a completely redisgned vehicle with a brand new engine that is much more advanced than the outgoing 3.8 which is over 8 years old same goes for the 3.5TT. The chassis, building materials, technologies and features aren’t just more advanced than the outgoing model, they are class competitive with the best in the segment.
The new G80 may not be for you but it’s a far more advanced vehicle than it’s predecessor and an incredible value when compared with the equivalent.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The new G80 platform is not optimized for pure-EV purpose, there is little space under the floor area to place batteries. Let's see how they make room for the battery pack if they decided to build a pure EV G80.
It’s been built, will go on sale next year. Every Genesis model will have a pure EV model.

Do you have a source for this info? A link to an article or something?

EDIT: Never mind. A quick google search led to plenty of info. Yep, its real and coming rather soon (<12 months perhaps).

Spending $60 plus on a car and still have to buy and get service at a Hyundai dealership.. I’m not sure about that. I think genesis should really focus on stand alone dealerships if they want prestige luxury car buyers to cross shop with genesis vehicles. Buying a luxury car should be a different experience than buying a Hyundai Accent.

No doubt is is a hefty hit. more than what I expected. They are going for parity with the competition but I'm not sure this is the time to do it. Your price OTD sounds about right compared to what I paid near the early part of the 2018 MY. For me, the bump is not as much because I no longer need AWD so next car will be RWD. Of course I won't get the trade value for it in FL compared to CT where I bought it

I'd really like to get one but the sensible side of me says it would be silly to spend the money. I went from driving 25k and year to 5k and can get many more years from this one.

It would seem to me that comparing a 2018 price negotiated at the end of a model year to a 2020(?) at sticker price at the beginning of the model year Is not an apples to apples comparison. Not to mention the differences in tech.

Certainly not disagreeing, they have to fix some of them. My experience has been good but there are plenty not so good. The sign outside does not matter as much as the people inside. Some months ago they did get a new guy responsible for dealers but have not seen anything happening publicly yet.

Well, I recently (March) bought my G90 from my local Hyundai dealership (that has a floor upstairs solely for Genesis) and the experience was top-notch -- even during this lock-down with limited staff and strict procedures. I definitely felt I got the gold-star treatment from start to finish. When I called the support line they gave me (for that wiper issue I mentioned on a different post) it rang the cell phone of (to my surprise) the same (knowledgeable) salesman that sold it to me. I sorta went, "Uhh, sorry Kevin, I meant to call your support line". He replied.., "You did, let me know what's going on and I'll be all over it!". And he was. Sent a G70 over to my house as a loaner (he apologized for not having a G90 -- but I was actually happy to try this sporty guy out! PS: FUN car!) and picked up my G90. Took care of it fast, without me having to move a muscle. Nice.

All that to say... I suppose it is all about the specific dealership. Which, I agree, should definitely NOT be the case. It must be consistent and repeated anywhere, at any time, to build a global luxury brand. Hope they get there soon!

Yup, it more than likely will be the top tier model “Ultimate” (price wise for sure) with a rumoured 500km (300+ mile) range, 500hp/500tq and Autonomous Level 3 Driving tech.
HMC invested heavily in Rimac a year ago, so expect the benefits of that to keep trickling down to other HMC products.

I realize it is completely redesigned vehicle, but at the end of the day the features are no different than what I currently have, newer tech yes, but not different tech, there is nothing additional the car gives IMO to justify a $10k+ price increase.

i came to Genesis because I found value in the features and options offered that met my financial price point, With this new pricing that is no longer true.

I’d rather buy a CT-5V or even a CT-6 Premium with equal safety features and comfort options for ~$8k less, maybe not a direct competitor to the g80 but both still solid options with equal features at a lower price point.

i hope Genesis succeeds. But from my POV they have priced themselves outside of my comfort zone.

We all have our thing, and especially our price-points. A budget is a budget. Enjoy your CT, if it comes to that, sincerely.

Yes, Genesis will lose some customers by pricing up. But they are gaining more and more at the same time (by building better and better cars), and these new customers are willing to pay more. - hell, it's still a bargain compared to the German three. You can be disappointed, but you cant fault the company for succeeding. Right?

A notable "truth" about a luxury product - it has to be priced that way too. A "discount" luxury brand, is NOT a luxury brand. It's a wanabee. Genesis, in my view, is pretty much doing everything right at this moment. Fun watching them go....

PS: Buying my G90 in March feels like buying Apple stock just before the MacIntosh hit. (No, not that I think it will appreciate in value, hehe). It feels like I simply recognized/discovered an amazing vehicle at an amazing price before everybody else caught on.... (and the prices jump madly). Fun! (and the looks I get in Montreal..., might be the only one in town.) That's fun too!

what is "Ergo Motion Driver’s Seat "?

and contrary to a post above , it sounds like the 3.5T has "leather seating surfaces" does that mean pretty much the same installation as the current base G80?

We've become spoiled. I'm on my second Genesis and really like it but at some point I'm out. Definitely a good value for the price, one reason I bought it. Image is a big factor in the luxury segment and they are building it. Is it enough to get people into a Hyundai dealership though? It does not bother me but it sure comes up here frequently so it is a problem. They have to round up some of the dealer people and give them classes by Emily Post.

Will be interesting to see if resale is as poor as current generation. Bought my 2016 3.8 AWD Luxury which was $50000 new @ 18 months old with 10000 KMs for $31000 Canadian. I have had it for 2 years & 5 months now @ 40000 kms & love it. I will be on the look out for a low Kilometer new generation 2021 before August 2023 when my extended bumper to bumper warranty is up. Or maybe I'll just keep mine ;) !

Again this is completely disingenuous. It is EXACTLY this...It’s not just “newer”... that word doesn’t mean anything. The entire power train is different and better than last gen, they share nothing in common. I’d be willing to bet that the 2021 2.5T RWD would match the current gen Sport model in performance and handling.

Virtually every single piece of tech is different. The massive 14” infotainment display, the 12.3 inch 3D digital Cluster, the entire suite of safety tech, smart cruise with machine learning, Remote smart parking assist, the ergo motion seat and road previewing electronically controlled suspension are things you simply don’t have. Your making it sound like they added an extra level to the heated and cooled seats, made the sunroof bigger and slapped a JB4 Tune on it.

You’re absolutely right in that Genesis clearly has no interest in competing with the likes of Cadillac, but said that, after checking out the Cadillac website build and price...there is no way A CTS5-V comparably speced is $8k less. To bring it close to the $59k 3.5TT RWD Standard you need to add packages that bring it to $55k, and it’s till falls well short. There is no way anybody test drives both cars, puts actual pen to paper and decides that the CTS5-V is better value.

Not sure what the Canadian market is like for Genesis, but the G80 has the lowest depreciation in its segment second only to the Lexus GS. It's been like that since it came out in 2015. And since the GS is now discontinued... guess that makes the G80 number one.

Don't forget part of that price hike is inflation. Rule of thumb, things double in price every 25 years or so if we're assuming 2% increase per year. I'm not sure if they ever raised the price in the 6 years the DH has been out but that's 6 years of inflation to make up for if they haven't. If you stick to certain price point, eventually that price point will get you a Sonata for today's Genesis money. High end cars are rapidly approaching that $100k mark.

At this moment I will be conservative about how the new G80 will perform in US market.

When G70 came out, Genesis was also using the same strategy as the new G80 - lower price, more standard options/features, good chassis/suspension, more value than its competitors. Almost all media reviews raved over it, and it got multiple this or that prizes.

Now almost 2 years passed, look at its sales figure - among all its major competitors, it even cannot beat the "weakest" one (Lexus IS). Only some "small" players such as the Jaguar XE, Cadillac ATS fall behind it.

I hope the new G80 will succeed in US, but I cannot make any prediction before it is up for sale in dealerships and has accumulated several months of sales data.

Time. Building a car brand takes a lot of time. They seem to be patient and definitely are investing. It took Lexus a long time to make a dent in the US as well.

1) Winning Press and media awards has no correlation with a new car’s sales. It simply means that the car itself is great.

2) G70 effectively went on sale in 2019...that’s barely a year ago.

3) Pre-COVID-19 G70 sales we’re trending up and by mid year were right there with the IS.
