  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Break-in Guidance?

Just did a search on the K&N site for 2011 and 2012 Genesis 4.6 and the only thing that came up was air filters. That fits my experience while looking for oil filters...I can't find any of real quality. The only one I could find was Purolator for a 4.6 Genny.

Yea, I read it.

...
I've had many new vehicles over the years, and broken them in in various ways, and never, ever have I seen what this guy says he sees in his oil. You used to see metal particles in the bottom of the automatic transmission oilpan on my old Chevy's due to band wear, but that's another story...

Now, in the above story, where's the oil filter in this equation? Non-existent or bypassing? :(

OKKKK... so my point from mentioning looking for metal fragments was in response to the Popular Mechanics article. I stipulated that I think it is probably overkill with today's modern engines to need to change the oil so soon but I was following the general guidelines in the article. My post was to share information with this community on what I found from my personal experience following this regime. This community works best when its members share with a sense of helping one another.

I appreciate the input on the oil filters. I would love to use a high-quality after market for the Gene... Do you know of any out on the market yet?

Cheers,
Newman

I buy WIX filters for my 4.6 at Rock Auto on the Web for about half of what the dealer sells them for. They look EXACTLY like the OEM and probably are since I don't think Hyundai makes oil filters.

I would not be surprised if they are the same exact filter, but I would not therefore assume that Wix makes them. The boxes for the Genesis filters I have say "Made in Korea". Could be part of Hyundai/Kia Auto Group, or some other Korean company.
