In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Actually, there is little to compare as the Genesis is clearly a better car in almost all important categories. LTCs were basically designed 20 years ago and have not kept up. The Genesis is state of the art.

However, there are two areas where the Town Car wins: (1) It can seat 6 adults, and (2) It does have a lot more cargo capacity. You perhaps should consider these.

I am sharing my viewpoint because I have owned four Town Cars (and one Grand Marquis) and did indeed enjoy them. However, I was forced to explore other options, because Ford dropped this model. The Genesis clearly evaluated as the best alternative for my family. Affordable is a big issue for us. And, the warranty is simply the best to be had.

The Genesis is so much fun to drive that I thank Ford for breaking my addiction. I lost the boat-like ride and gained a sense of the road and confidence in maneuvering. I can pass with ease, with no more throttle sluggishness. I can drive at the legal speed limit on a crowned Interstate without constantly correcting my lane position, even wih cross-winds.

If you are a frustrated Ford customer (you like Crown Vics, Grand Marquis, LTCs) you just gotta check out the Genesis!

You forgot the 3rd avantage:

(3) In case war breaks out, the Town Car can double as an aircraft carrier.

The website, The Truth About Cars, which I frequent is obsessed with the Panther platform Fords. Another topic they frequently visit is the demise of Lincoln and the (repeated) attempts to revive it. IMHO, it's too late and Lincoln will soon be joining Mercury, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn, et al.

I agree with you and maintain that the Genesis is what Lincoln should be building: Fast, luxurious, tech heavy and RWD.

Its actually kind of funny that this topic should come up at least to me it is. My first two cars were based on the Panther Platform, 1992 Mercury Grand Maquis and a 1999 Ford Crown vic (in like mint condition, loaded with the dual exhaust, climate, air suspension etc). For some reason when you're young you're expected to drive a small uncomfortable car be it something like a civic or a entry level luxury car like a 3 series or somthing. So because of the need to look more "cool" lol I sold my Crown Vic and got a Lexus, and then after that a Mercedes C300.

With that said the Lexus was comfortable but the performance sucked and it ended up being boring, so then came the C300 which I leased and it was good but the seats are hard as hell and its too small. So for quite some time now I have wanted my land yatch back. So when my lease was up (actually ended it early because I couldn't wait lol) I went looking for a large rear wheel drive v8. So I ended up with the Genesis.

Interestingly Lincoln seems determined to make FWD cars; what makes this even worse is if you live in a warm weather they never order the AWD versions. Aparently the only reason for AWD is so that it can do well in snow? So the only "offering" Lincoln had for me that I could actually get off a lot was a FWD Lincoln MKS with a stoneage stupid v6 that made zero power... no Eco Boost if your in LA. Oh well thats OK; their paint jobs are uneven the interior feels cheap and the seats are no where near as nice.

In the end I'm happy :-)

If Lincoln would bring back the Continental which is a long sleek beautiful car, I would buy one in a NY Minute. The reason the Continental did not sell well, is because it to most people, it looks so much like the Town Car. It took me a long time to see the differences between the Continental and Town Car. 2002 was the last year for the Continental. The Continental also used a different engine, 275 hp DOHC, and FWD vice the 220 hp SOHC RWD Town Car (with live rear axle I may add).

We owned two 1998 Continentals, and now this 2002 Continental. If Lincoln would bring it back, with updated interior electronics, updated transmission, but keep the long low look, I'd be the first in line to buy one. The present MKS and MKZ (stupid names) look too short, squat and high and no personality. Back in December/January, we took our Continental to NM, AZ and California. Handles great, and most important (to my wife) gives a great ride.

I had both an MKZ and a Marauder plus the Genesis and I know good rides and performance. (The Continental would have better performance, even with the same 275hp engine, if it had the 6-speed transmission).

Are you saying that you did not see the EcoBoost (Twin Turbo) MKS that Lincoln offers? I was just looking at two of them yesterday at my local Lincoln dealer. They are there. All MKS EcoBoost are AWD. Only problem with the MKS is that they are UGLY, but then again, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Also, they are priced up around $56K which is about $12K more than the SHO which also comes standard with AWD.

(Lincoln, bring back a good looking car like the last Continentals :D)

In Los Angeles when I was car shopping there were none; unbelievable. Not that I would have bought it come to think of it; its not really that nice. They had a ton of the FWD stuff. I asked the sales manager why this was that case and he said they dont ship that many to southern CA because it doesn't snow, so its rare to find one. Either way doesn't matter I guess.

Re: > Genesis Compared To Lincoln Town Car, A suggestion for frustrated Ford loyalist

Interesting this should come up because I just looked at Towncar before buying a Genesis. Main reason I didn't get the Towncar was that the seats for the Genesis are more comfortable. I literally bought a pair of front seats for the feel and whatever car came with the seats. Turns out the car is a classic and my wife and I love it. Have enjoyed reading all the Genesis forum comments and am learning a lot. Just ordered rebadging for the wheels and steering wheel. Fun to drive a car with so much surrounding passion.
