  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

TrueDelta reports absolute repair rates that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, to report on new models like the Genesis Coupe quickly and track cars closely as they age.

How soon? That depends on how quickly owners join up. Thanks to this forum and its members, we were able to provide the first reliability information on the Genesis Sedan. Now we'd like to do the same for the Genesis Coupe.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the Genesis Coupe, free of charge.

Some signed up now, but not nearly enough. Are there many owners here? If so, I hope you'll help us provide the first reliability stats for the coupe as we have for the sedan.

glad to see ya here Mike.......Lookin forward to see how this car does. It really has caught my interest

Always happy to see you as well, Wild Willy.

I'm quite interested in this car as well. I attempted to test drive a Genesis Coupe the other day. After sitting around for 10-15 minutes, I was permitted only the briefest, least informative test drive I've ever experienced. A real PIA. Looks like I'm going to have to get a press car for this one.

On the survey--very much need more owners involved ASAP. We'd like to have an initial result in November, but need owners' help to make this happen.

No one else has a reliability stat for the Genesis yet. Even so, we've just updated ours. A big thank you to this forum and its members for making this result possible.

Genesis owners reported more repairs during the past quarter than they did earlier. The reported repair rate has increased, to 67 repairs per 100 cars per year. This is perhaps a little worse than average, but close enough that we call it "average." Still not a bad result for an all-new model.

The key thing is whether the repair rate levels off here, or continues to worsen. With prompt quarterly updates, we'll track them closely. The more participants we have, the better the information we can provide.

Okay, that post was meant for the sedan forum...

With the Coupe, we still need more cars before we can start providing reliability stats. Aiming for November. All depends on how soon enough owners sign up and participate.

You lost me when you asked for my license plate number. No reason that you need that information. None.

You're asked for the plate number whenever you enroll a vehicle. But it also says you can enter the color of the car instead.

It does seem to weed out people who've read a few too many Snopes-worthy emails.

On the topic of the survey, we're sending out a follow-up email for the survey tomorrow or Thursday. How many Gen Coupe owners are signed up when that email goes out will probably determine whether or not we have a result in November.

16 signed up as I type this.

Seems I didn't mention the reasons we ask for the plate number, though we do not require it. They aren't "none."

First is that some people have two otherwise identical cars--model year, model, color--and need a way to tell them apart. The plate number does this. The VIN wouldn't do as well, because no one knows their VIN.

Second, early on I had a few "cautious people" insist that I needed a way to verify that the cars in the survey actually exist. With a plate number, I could if necessary do this, using information that is far from private--hundreds of people see it every time you drive your car. But it has never been necessary, nor do I think it will be.

Updated results for the sedan next month. We could have results for the Coupe in November, but only if more owners sign up and participate.

22 owners now signed up. This might be enough for a partial result in November, but more definitely needed for a full result.

Help make this happen:

27 now, better. Another dozen would make a full result much more likely.

I enrolled my Silver 2.0T. Cool idea.

To the guy scared to put in his plate number. It isn't like your plate number is private...geesh. You paranoid about something? Maybe you are on the lamb? A drug runner? Hey look out! The Russians are after you! Make sure they don't know your plate number! They might "get you!"
:)

I hate to be a naysayer, but the results you get from these surveys are not going to be accurate, as you are only getting participants from a certain segment of owners.

Because of how the survey process is structured and how the survey is worded, we do get accurate results for the objective things we measure. If the survey was a one-shot, immediate deal and we were surveying opinions, it'd be a different story.

There are times when our results have been "controversial." Every one of these times our results have later been corroborated by the results of others' surveys.

As it is, the key challenge is getting enough people.

When you come to sites where enthusiasts are abound.....I would think the information you get would would be more accurate and more detailed.

To some extent this is true. But the key thing is that the main thing we focus on is whether or not the car was in the shop the previous month, simple as that. Virtually anybody can reliably and accurately report whether their car was in the shop the previous month.

Turns out it's going to be VERY close.

44 owners are now signed up, but some of these won't be eligible to participate until next month.

27 have responded--a very good response rate. Problem is, we're still six months of data short of the minimum (75) for a full result next month.

With just one or two responses, we'd have it.

So if you're receiving one of the "special emails" I've been sending only to Gen Coupe owners who haven't responded this month, please get back to me.

Not yet signed up? There will be another set of results in February. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.
