If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On Sunday I was driving my 2013 hyundai genesis coupe on the freeway and I was going about 75 and something did not feel right and when I pressed on the gas pedal my car shut down, and when I parked it on the freeway all my radiator fuild leaked out. After I towed it to a mechanic that I know they said that the engine is blown because the engine is ticking real bad. Does anyone know anything about these engines and do these cars normally shut down like that?

Sound like a blown head gasket
But not knowing anything else can’t say like
Maintenance mileage etc
Did you see your temp gauge was rising ?
How long were you driving it over heating etc

Shut down or seized up? If it overheated the pistons can swell and put pressure so it cannot turn. Where did the fluid leak from?

Not enough information to diagnose.

Same thing happened with me, i got genesis coupe 2.0 2013 auto, while accelerating engine shut off while i was driving. Towed it to dealership and they said engine is seized. Now I don’t know whether to sell the car or get a new engine. It cost around $6000. I have applied for engine recall and they’ve denied it.

Same thing happen to me. Going about 45 mph and heard a small pop, then engine shut off. Definitely a blown engine at 86K miles. I had the car less than a month.

Will the sedan 3.8 fit in the coupe?

I just purchased a 2010 Genesis Grand Touring Coup with 3.8L. The guy said it needed a new motor but it runs. It threw 2 codes with the check engine light on. First code, system to lean idle bank 1. Second code, system to lean idle bank 2. There’s no knock or tick. It sounds good. Also the brake pedal is soft. The guy said the Brembo brakes had been bled with no air in the lines. Plz help! I’m not sure where to even start with this car.

sounds like you need to take it to a good trusted mechanic to tell you exactly what’s going on, otherwise you will get hit with a hefty cost to fix a small problem. the “guy” you are referring too is just looking to rip you off, imo

Similar problem here on 2014 2.0 turbo coupe. Started a loud ticking that increases to a whine with rpm. 66k miles, I bought used so out of used warranty period and miles. I am trying to get Hyundai to honor new car miles and time since I bought with only 7500 miles on it in 2015. Fun and reliable until this episode. I see a lot of our model for sale in 60 - 70 k miles. They know something we don’t?

this is a very common thing! do NOT trust anyone with your car before you have FULL proof of everything on and in your car! for reals…. i beg you. you dont want to end up like i did, its devastating.

ticking could be anything from bad oil, and issues along those lines, not proper maintenance, air filter issues, if loose something went into the air system. could be an exhaust leak, or an ignition problem. start doing a run down of your engine and document everything, every part number, take pictures whatevrr you gotta do while youre at it, but maybe you will get lucky and its something small and easy! shops WILL try and fool you because these engines can be hard to find, depending where you are located. that was my mistake when i was in the same boat.
