  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just wanted to mention how much faster the site seems to run once you join as a Supporting Member. For a minimal cost, it is well worth my donation. Thank You Sal

Oh and did I mention, no more ad's :D

Thank you very much for the support! I actually run all the ads on my account so I can see exactly what's going on for most of our viewers. They do get annoying but I've learned to deal with them. I agree, however, that the site is so much cleaner and faster without the ads - which are a necessary evil. However, sometimes (I admit, on rare occasion) the ads can be helpful when you're looking to buy something...

Adblock strips an average of 16 ads per page here for me. That's quite a bit.

If we could get some direct advertisers here those network ads could be removed. I won't hold my breath, however. Most vendors just come here, post about a product, never come back and get sales based on that one post for years. Must be very nice for them...

Does the forum get compensated when people click on the ads?

Yes, trying to dodge that Ad Choices pop-up ad, the one that intermittently obscures the message you are attempting to read, is almost as much fun as playing Pac Man.

It now makes the site not worth the effort from my iPhone - ads keep popping up as you scroll to read a message string. So won't be checking much while away from home anymore.

I'm puzzled. I have the basic, free membership, yet I don't see the ads people are complaining about. Would that be because of my Adblock Plus?

Yep. Adblock blocks it

Adblock + Ghostery blocks pretty much everything, viglinks included.

Yes, but please don't click ads that aren't interesting to you. I don't want to have advertisers paying for a click that won't earn them a customer.

Can one of you guys take a screen shot of that Ad Choices ad? I haven't added any "new" ads to the site in a long time and Ad Choices ads don't pay anything at all. It's kinda silly to have an ad being so annoying especially if it doesn't even support the site...

wow.... that would be bloody annoying... :/

I still get those annoying Ads on my cell phone so I stopped checking out the site via my cell phone. But for my laptop, paying the $48 per year serves two things. One to eliminate those annoying adds and to help support the site we enjoy. Please support. I would spend that on just one night out for dinner. A well spent investment for all the information we gain from this site.

Hopefully our webmaster will kill this pop-up. He has expressed that sentiment. These days, I believe, more folks surf the Internet on smartphones and tablets than they do on laptop and desktop computers. I rarely go on my laptop, or desktop, anymore. Same with my wife, except for our investment and personal bookkeeping records.

Thank you. If you avoid scrolling over double-underlined text like that - you won't get the popup. Those text link ads have been running for a long time...

Thank you for letting me know about this. As a supporting member you should not get network advertisements in any form whether on the full version or mobile version. I do believe I just fixed that issue...

People don't generally refer to those as popups - but they do have a similar behavior. As previously mentioned those are ads I DO/DID already know about. I try to keep the cost for an ad free experience very low and if I'm not mistaken $3 per month is probably the lowest monthly "support fee" you'll find anywhere. I hope nobody is offended by my asking for that support fee to remove the ads...

That has fixed it Sal. Thank You very much. I am not at all offended having to support this site. I have learned so much since I first joined. It was the least I could do. I didn't know it was so cheap or I would have supported sooner...:D

Yes, they used to trigger as you describe. Nowadays, however, they pop up without even going near the double-underlined text. After the ad window opens it stays open and moves around, obscuring the view of any message you are trying to read. Maybe there is another control setting that you are not aware of? Ad Choice can hardly be called advertising. It's just an annoyance.
