If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I know in korean spec genesis, there is a front camera like the Equus. Did anybody think of adding the front camera to the genesis? Was anybody successful installing the front camera using OEM parts? I would like to install the front camera, but I don't know if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

I believe it's possible...but your wallet will be much much lighter! ;)

For the needed materials (the front camera, and the new front grill with the slot for the camera is around $600+ on eBay not including finding someone to install it.

Also need the grill trim that attaches to the hood. I was thinking about switching over to this grill but like DominicJE said it is going to be expensive. The grill is not that expensive it is the camera that gets you. I personally think the grill with the SCC looks the best.

Yeah, I'm aware of the all the parts that is needed for the install. I just wanted to know if someone on this forum have already tried and succeeded. Because I don't want to spend all that money for just looks.

Yeah I think the issue is what triggers the front camera to turn on. There's no menu item to switch to a front camera.

Would be nice to ask someone with a Korean genesis what triggers the camera.

On my 2009 Tech in the engineering sub-menus (takes a special keystroke & button/DIS knob sequence to get in there - those menus are not meant for owners to access) there are what Hyundai calls "Variant" settings. These settings mostly depend on which country the car was sold in... things like air bag suspension or not, front camera or not, etc. On non-Tech cars only the dealer's plug-in system can access/alter the variant settings.

If I remember correctly, when the transmission is in a forward gear and the vehicle speed is below 5mph or so the screen switches to the front camera view.

I'd start by:
1: for your model year, assuming you have a Tech package, figure out the secret sequence to get into the engineering/variant menu. Do a SEARCH on this site for your model year.

2: Look around the grill area for an electrical connector not plugged into anything... just capped off or taped out of the way. I wouldn't be surprised to find the wiring is in the car... just like V6 models have the wiring in the door sills for the lighted "GENESIS" sill plates that came on the V8 models.

3: go to www.hmaservice.com (or www.hyundaitechinfo.com) and sign up... then browse factory service manuals to see what's involved. It might show you where the front camera wiring connector might be hiding...

Mike,

thanks for the reply. I will try to do more research and see if it is possible. Thanks for all the advise.

Any updates on this? Has anyone tried to do this?

If this is possible and also if a way to add Blind spot monitoring then these 2 things make the Genesis a Full package for someone like me who owns the Tech package (2012 v6). Only things missing i'd say would be passenger cooled seats, awd.

What's the advantage of a front camera? Isn't the beep warning enough? I thought forward view was not bad in the car when I test drove it. That said I'm still waiting for delivery

Even though my car has the front warning system equipped, I still scraped the bottom of my front bumper from a curve. Adding a front camera will help to prevent any further scrapes.

There are a lot of outstanding tools on this forum. Unfortunately, not all are the good kind. Don't let that discourage you. I did lots of cool retrofits and upgrades to my last two cars. I did a few that no one thought possible that are now mainstream for that car. Good luck with your front camera upgrade. It will be awesome when it's done.

True! Good thing the designers thought of plastic molding underneath the bumper for everday scrapes and scuffs :welcome: . Gives me more peace of mind that if I ruin it, it's just plastic and can be replaced more inexpensively than bumper molding.

But yes, front camera would be excellent, manually to be turned on or triggered by front parking sensors.

Shahhere: I agree with you, blind spot lights on side mirrors would be an excellent addition.

Bump, has anyone had any success with this?

I'm looking into it, James @ VIPDOUT said he would reach out to the Hyundai Tech that helped him on his Prada build. The 5 dealerships I've spoken with in the ATL area are all clueless and very anti aftermarket. They say the Korean parts have different part numbers and they can't look anything up without a VIN #.

Way different than my Nissan and Honda experiences where you can almost always find a tech who has swapped JDM parts onto his own car and is happy to help.

Interesting, please let us know

My Genesis also has a camera. Bought in Russia. In fact, the device is completely useless.
