  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Base Trim?

Remember, your likely to have this car for a least 3 years. Will you regret not getting those features in a year or two. Think ahead. If you do regret it, you will regret it every day, every time you drive.
And he’ll make those payments for 3 years too. It depends on how much the OP is already stretching his budget for the base trim. This is good advice if he has the leeway but I also like others suggestions of going with something else fully loaded too

the options are where a manufacturer make their margins. just look at pickup trucks! i'm always amazed that you can buy a $27k F-150...or drop $80k. sure there are lots of options added, but does anyone think those options actually come close to the $53k delta?

i've always leaned towards buying a better overall vehicle and skip some of the frilly options. if i'm gonna spend $40k, for example, i want that money to go towards the overall car and not gadgets and gizmos.

Not a good comparison. The guy buying the 27k is probably hauling manure from the barn to the spreader in the field. The guy buying the 80k pickup is looking pretty taking a bag of groceries from the supermarket. One is a tool, the other is a luxury vehicle with the appearance of a truck.

Sure, the options are overpriced. If looking to save pennies, buy an Elantra. If you don't want frilly options, why waste your money on a luxury brand? Just to have the badge? I use the SCC a lot. For that reason alone I'd take the Sonata over the base Genesis.

I agree. He asked for individual opinions. I don’t know anything about this guy. I actually regret commenting Loaded is a good choice coupled with what you can afford. That’s my non-recommendation

regret commenting? My man, we are pretty much saying the same thing, I just added in my 2 cents about stretching a budget. The more info, the better choice the OP and anyone else who comes across this in the future can make. Keep commenting and don’t let it get to you ;)

I would have been happy with just about any of the levels. . .. the lower level, you can also enjoy, each day, that you paid less.
Also--the Sonata--just wanted to add that it is a nice car--much bigger than the G70, but I drove it after a fully equipped Lexus and never missed the Lexus at all.
Mainly, just have to look for something you like at a price you are comfortable with. If adding some things to it increases the price to a point that is not comfortable, likely not going to enjoy the car that much.

I respect someone recognizing his budget and avoiding the lure of more, more. I could have bought more G70 and chose not to. Someone posted on the board from some thread about a source mentioning how many people overbuy their cars and are car poor. G70 has a car for 36k (and less w/discounts). Let those buy who will.

^ that's perfectly fine if a guy's priority are with techy options moreso than driving dynamics. in many instances the luxury brand also brings much higher levels of overall refinement throughout the vehicle. so a luxury branded and well-sorted car on the lower end of the available trim spectrum will be a much more rewarding drive than a lesser composed car, even without options such as SCC, etc.

the Maxima vs Q50 is a comparison that's been used before. those who value proper RWD configuration and balanced dynamics will take a Q50, whereas those wanting all the bells and whistles will take the Maxima for the same money and not mind the CVT/FWD/heavy-nosed bias.

regardless, the G70 is a great overall car no matter what trim is selected. the buyer just needs to align the trim with what their needs are. as Beefer alluded to earlier, Genesis has done a great job keeping options packages from reaching stratospheric costs - particularly in CAD! the $3500 extra for the 2.0T Sport is a screaming deal over the 'base' trim.
