  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Pricing

I'm comparing the G70, probably 3.3T, with the A5 SB, but we don't know about Audi '19 pricing yet. For '19, it looks like the Premium Plus trim will be including the Virtual Cockpit and the Prestige trim will include the Drivers assist package instead of these being options. If the price increase is modest, it will make the Audi more competitive. It's not unusual for more tech to be standardized as these become common.
You can’t really do that. S4 is the competition for the 3.3T.

Man...I am torn. So...I have decided to compare my numbers to an S4 instead of the S5 Sportback. Reason is...the SB is like $4-5k more...simply for that body shape. Yeah...it's hot...but screw that.

With the S4...you save money off the top...and the lease MF is roughly 3% compared to 6% (awful) on the S5 SB.

With all discounts, etc, etc...I get get a new S4 Premium Plus for $58,334 out the door. So $6,500 more then the G70. $640/month, 42 months, 7500 miles, $3,800 OOO (taxes and fees).

But...with the S4...
- none of the lane assist, etc, etc
- no HUD
- no heated back seats
- no ventilated seats
- no 3-yr maint
- 1 year less warranty

To get all of the above...I would have to move up to a Prestige and add some options...probably another $5k or so.

I mean...that's quite a bit of stuff I am missing for $6,500 more money !!!! I just want this car hunt to be over. Worried I will miss out on this S4. This really sucks. Genesis has pissed us all off beyond belief...unreal.
You know...the more I sit here and think about it...I would be a fool to not wait for the G70. $10k more for the S4 when all said and done if it was comparable. Why on earth would I literally throw money away.

What has me all freaked out is I have no warranty on my A4 right now. I am ultra paranoid that if something happens I am screwed. Mind you...I only have 37k miles on a 2013...so I think I need to settle down.

Hahaha yeah $10k is nothing to sneeze at! Only 37k on your 2013 A4? You'll be fine, plus, doesn't it have powertrain until 60k? I wasn't concerned on my Mk5 GTI until it hit 120k when I had the last bit of warranty on it, an extension TSB on the well known HPFP/cam follower issue. My car now has 155k on it and I still drive it as hard as ever and I've owned it for just over 12 years (original owner).

I apparently drive too much as my daily 2015 Mazda already has 48k on it, and I drive that much less than I drove the GTI.

I have 100,000 miles on my S4 and only $800 in repairs so far. Maybe I should be worried?

It's a price point comparison. They cost about the same and from what I've read, the Audi 2.0 is quick and gets way better gas mileage. I've never actually driven either, however.

Sure price point...but you have to compare what you are paying for :)

A4 is a 5.6 second car...G70 3.3T is 4.5. And...since I have already done the research...the A4 loaded up like the G70 Sport is about $5k more expensive !!! Yep...crazy. That G70 is a killer deal...if it were just to exist.

I imagine the C43 "baby" AMG with 362hp is easily $10-$20k more than a fully loaded G70 3.3T as the base 2018 starts at $53,400 hahaha. They're nice cars for sure, but you definitely do pay a premium for the German marque/prestige. I remember my friend taking out a $90k MB C63S out last year and man, what a ride. But, $90k. For what's technically still a compact.

I've seen the 4.5sec figure for the 3.3T 0-60 but I've not seen anything on the 2.0T except guesstimates from youtube reviews. I would expect high 5's. Anybody know what the 0-60 is on the 2.0T?

Looks like high 6's to low 7's. Surprisingly bad. But nothing official out there. Genesis only posts 4.5 sec for the 3.3T but no mention of the 2.0T. So until the configuration tool comes out where you can see specs on different engines...we are only guessing.

So possibly slower than the Elantra Sport Sedan 6MT???? Car and Driver says that 201hp car will get to 60 in 6.6sec. If a 44k G70 can’t beat that... isn’t that a problem?

Lord...who knows. They need to put some numbers out. This entire release is a complete clusterfuck. I repeat...pylons.

Well the 2.0T is only up 50hp from the Elantra Sport and weighs a good 400-450 lbs more. The 6MT G70 is supposedly right around 3520lbs and I guarantee you the 2.0T AT Sport will be over 3600 with having real leather, the automatic, sunroof, etc.

BMW 330i weights 3537, has 248hp and Motor Trend clocked it to 60 in 5.5sec. So, not only have Genesis stripped the 2.0T G70 MT of content - they made it by far the slowest in the class no matter which transmission you choose... and potentially slower than their own 21k Elantra Sport? The 2.0T seems to be a disaster of a car if all this turns out to be true. Yikes.

Do you really think the BMW has 248hp? Germans are notorious for underrating their cars. My generation GTI made 180-195whp while VW claimed they did 200chp. The current 7th gen traps 99-100mph in the 1/4, which is the same as the 268hp WRX, but supposedly only makes 210-220hp stock depending on which trim you get. AMG’s, same thing. I guarantee you that 2.0T in the Bimmer is probably making closer to 265-275hp. That 8 speed ZF transmission is God-like for an automatic too; there’s a reason both BMW and Audi are using it to replace their DCT’s in some of their models, the new M5 and Audi S4/S5 for instance.

All in all, we need actual numbers before we can judge. 0-60mph is often a matter of traction too. I like looking at the 1/4 mile times because that actually indicates power across the range. For me personally, I’m not going to judge it solely by it being slower than the competition, if it truely is. It packs a lot of value and other performance parts too.

Since I was a kid (many years ago) the single most important measure of performance is the 0-60 time. Ranks right up there with penis size.

I've had cars that were fun to drive and did not even make single digits. I'd certainly not cross off a car for a 1/10 or two.

Hahaha true. And yeah no doubt. My Mazda is sometimes more fun than my GTI because it’s so light and agile. And the steering is arguably better too. And that car isn’t getting anywhere in a hurry. 155hp, 150tq at 4000rpm, 2820ish lbs with my lighter wheels. But I love the 35-40mpg I get from it.

I don’t care about having the fastest car in the segment. I have a 93 MR2 non turbo that is one of the most fun cars I’ve ever driven and has only 135hp. However, the segment the 2.0t G70 is in it should not be more than a second off the competition. It should be competitive at a minimum and it’s not. Thats a big difference no matter how anyone tries to sugar coat it.

Has the 2019 G70 been confirmed to be the only year of the 6MT option? I read that somewhere else and that would really bum me out for a 2 reasons.
IIRC, a Genesis exec was asked about this and stepped back from that initial notion that it would be one year only and said something like, "We will continue to offer it if it sells."
I hope a bunch of enthusiasts with the scratch and inclination buy up some 6MTs... Genesis has certainly garnered a lot of attention by offering it.

i just realized that the US market gets 22 different trims for the G70. 22! why so many? i mean, choice is great, but too much choice will cause havoc for the dealer network to stock these trims. many of the trims are separated by only $1000, although this is confused by the myriad RWD/AWD trims, so cost won't be a factor in every case - it will be content. i know Genesis seems to not like a la carte options or packages so i guess providing 22 trims is the next best thing? that gets confusing.

Canada gets 6 trims. yes, 6. i get that more US buyers prefer RWD compared to CAD so i understand a few more RWD trims being available, but does nearly every trim need RWD/AWD configurations? sure, the Sport trims and perhaps the lower trims make sense but not the mid-range trims.

again, i see the US trim lineup as being far too watered down, and my guess is that ~7-8 trims at most will see most of the action with the others either languishing or being dropped after the first year or two.

Boys & Girls,

We have had 118 posts, and no one has mentioned the biggest, darkest, scariest skeleton in the closet - US Tariffs. While the US and Korea have just signed a new trade agreement, the German-US situation is still at sea.

When my lease is up, I'll be cross shopping the G70 against an Audi S4 or S5 and a highly optioned BMW340, (the sticker on my present '16 340 was $60K). I figure that the difference between the G70 and the cars I'm lookin at is roughly $10K +/-. If my name was Mr. Hyundai, I would certainly be looking at a price increase, maybe not as high as the tariff on the Germans, but still significant. Who knows, this might be a factor in why the pricing has been delayed.
