  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

In the AoA review, his tester had the entry level double ten-spoke wheels, but he called it the "top spec" car. I assume he meant "3.3T" engine when he said top spec because the actual top spec 3.3T Sport model has the black 5-spoke wheels. Anyway, assuming his tester is a 3.3T, it must be either the Advanced or Elite with those standard looking double spoke wheels. I'm hoping one of the 3.3T trims has the polished 10-spoke (non double). The only trim left is the Prestige trim that could have that wheel. Anyone know?

I think it was the prestige as it didn't have the blacked out chrome nor the sport quilted seats but still had the 360 camera

That would be VERY disappointing! I noticed the 2.0 Sport had the 10-spoke polished aluminum wheels that I like. Hoping if what you're saying is true that this is an anomaly pre-production car that doesn't represent an actual US trim.

How typical is it for a carmaker to hold an event like this, a month(?) before launch, and not have solid pricing information to distribute?

I think another thing reviewers agree on is that there is a noticeable difference in front weight between the 2.0T and 3.3T. I mean that's to be expected, but more reviewers bring it up than not.

4. 6-speed tranny is kind of vague vs feels solid and precise. Again probably what the reviewer is accustomed to and is serving as a comparison standard. But it suggests that the 6-speed is neither the best nor the worst out there.

Seems like Hyundai did a better job on the MT for the i30N and Veloster-N.

5. Should have opened Genesis brand with a CUV vs starting with a sedan was a sensible move. Many feel that starting with a sedan is a big mistake in a market that's moving away from that configuration toward SUVs and CUVs. But at least one reviewer felt that a luxury brand has to establish its bona fides first with sedans and that Genesis is holding true to its market of origin (Korea) where sedans are still preferred. Obviously personal points of view.

Wasn't going to happen b/c they simply aren't ready; and besides, it's not like there will be a huge delay from the US launch of G70.

The GV80 is slated for debut next year w/ a possible KDM launch late in the year.

And it's not like there aren't sales to be had in the entry-level/compact sedan segment.

BMW, MB and Audi sell gobs of the 3/4 Series, C Class and A4/A5.

They sell more of them than they do their midsize CUVs.

The 2.0T is off my list as a possible purchase. It's slower than an Accord 2.0T. Expected from a much heavier car but I'll take a 5.7 sec 0 to 60 over a 7.1ish sec 0 to 60 any day.

How fast is the 2.0 Stinger 0-60? The G70 should equal or best that speed as it is a little lighter in weight.

C&D got a 6.1s 0-60 time for the 2.0T Stinger which is larger/heavier.

Granted, C&D tends to have quicker than norm 0-60 times, but at worst, probably talking 6.5s for the 2.0T G70 (MT got a 6.6s time for its test of the Stinger - which was only 1.4s slower than what MT got for the A5 coupe ).

If that still isn't quick enough, then can always wait a couple of years until the 2.0T is replaced by the new 2.5T.

Going back to the AoA review, a thing Alex misspoke on was that the lower portion of the metal trim on the door being imitation aluminum.

It's all real; Alex may have been fooled due to upper trim being brushed aluminum.

Another thing, read in one of the reviews that the G70's hood is aluminum.

Maybe I simply missed prior mention of it, but that is the 1st I've heard of that.

Can anyone confirm?

I popped my hood, feels too heavy to be aluminum. One can only dream.

My favorite thus far. Gets into good detail...and nails it on pricing at the end. Actually had me smiling at times...I cannot wait to own one!!!!

4 annoying ads throughout...

To clarify a few items:

1) The 10-spoke wheels pair with the bright chrome on cars that do not include the "Sport Appearance", like the 3.3T Prestige. Sport package cars get the black wheels, paired with dark chrome, plus the "Sport" quilting (black Nappa, tighter diamond pattern).

2) There's no Idle Stop-and-Go (auto stop-start) on 3.3T cars in North America, which is why you see a blank switch. The 2.0T automatic cars have it as standard equipment.

3) Hood is definitely aluminum.

4) Per Kusa-Kusa's comment above, the 2.0T does feel a little lighter on the nose, but I feel the more distinct difference in steering feel comes from RWD vs. AWD. The RWD cars feel just a touch more incisive on turn-in as there's no torqued axle affecting the steering response.

The YouTube version since I had troubles playing the other, probably my ad-blocker..

IIRC, the Genesis BH sedan also had an aluminum hood. For the DH they went back to steel (guessing for cost reasons?) In any case, I believe in an effort to cut weight they'll be using more aluminum in some body panels henceforth (pretty much like what every other luxury carmaker has had to do).

Correct, my 2014 Hyundai Genesis had aluminum hood, my 2016 is steel.

Anybody notice any hood flutter because of the aluminum hood? The new Accord/Camrys have this issue.

I can tell you that it doesn't flutter at 135 mph down the back straight of Circuit Mont-Tremblant... So no, I think it's good ;)

Is the new Accord aluminum? Our Pilot (new design) is plastic.

Yup. I was going to get the new Accord, but looks like the 2018 model had so many issues including the hood fluttering because of insufficient support, HUD squeaks, hood misalignment, wheel misalignment, phantom electrical/warning issues, etc... So I'm now closely eyeing the Genesis G70 instead which is the number 1 on my list currently.

Damn! A 3.3T Prestige is the trim level I 100% wanted; too bad it isn't available in Canada
