  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

I would challenge LarryMG1 for calling me fake biased, however his picture of a cute grim reaper is highly intimidating me.
Sadly, assumptions that don't support your specific beliefs and, yes, your biases as being fake is all too prevalent in our society today.

I don't quite follow your comments. My quote (noted above) was in response to @devellis philosophical comment eluding to a critical evaluation of the merits. I was concurring that our society in general, no reference meant or intended to you personally, has developed a troubling mindset when it comes to objective looks at issues. If my reference to "your" disturbs you, understand that it was a generalization. :gee:
If it makes you feel less intimated I offer an alternate version:
"Sadly, assumptions that don't support specific beliefs and, yes, someone's biases as being fake is all too prevalent in our society today" :)
One has to wonder about the thickness of one's skin.

Wonderfully written.

Thanks Beefer, Im glad to know that someone other than myself enjoys my silly stuff. And shout out to Sal or whoever reviewed it (I posted it last night with a poopy word for R+T which must have flagged it) and allowed it today.

YEH: My thoughts about G70 copying German interiors is on the same track as yours, however, I have a different take on that. I doubt any car made today does not have some copying going on in some way (even far-out Tesla). What annoys me is how most reviews of the G70 say at least one body part is a copy from some euro car manufacturer. One reviewer said the grill is a copy from Alfa Romeo Giulia, for example. Thank God it looks very different because I don't like the Alfa Romeo grill. Look at a new Audi or Mercedes video and they don't ever call anything a copy. It's either an original design or an inspiration of some past car. I think the G70 looks great and is more of an original design than most newly designed cars.
Another common annoyance I hear in reviews of the G70 is the constant Genesis is really just a Kia. I have never heard a Porsche review that ever mentioned it is the same thing as a Volkswagen. And lets face it, half of them look like a souped up VW bug.

P.S. To Larrymg1. I really was joking about you directing your piece (which I agree with entirely) to me specifically. Although, I was not joking about being intimidated by the baby grim reaper pic.

To add...the car was essentially designed inside and out by a bunch of Germans. You think Germans are going to think and copy Japanese cars? Germans will do Germans. Wait....that didn't come out right. You get it though.

Next...Euro/German cars are gorgeous...always have been. I think Audi interiors are the best in the business (IMHO). So...even if we do say there is a lot of German influence in the G70...that is a compliment all...day...long. Have at it.

I agree - copying (taking inspiration) from a German car is a great thing. I guess everyone enjoys making comparisons: how many white guys that play good b-ball are the next Larry Bird. Since it is fun (albeit annoying) to compare, my weird take on the G70 body is a cross between an Italian sportscar and an American muscle car. The result is a great looking auto even with 4 doors attached. Before the G70 came out, I thought only a coupe would make me happy.

The videos all say g70 competes with the Giulia, BMW 3 series, and Audi 4s. I would say the closest competitor and closest looking car is the new Audi A5
Sportback. In fact, if those rascal dealerships don't start coming down at least 5 percent of the MSRP, than I might get restless and start dickering for 10% off the Sportback even though I like the 3.3t G70 so much better.

Yeah...similar to the SB...but the G70 definitely has more of a defined trunk. The S5 SB was runner up for me.

And...funny you say 5%...not sure if you saw my other post. Seems like several dealers are going 4.6% below MSRP. I am researching what that is. Thinking it might be Corporate giving money to the dealers?

Beefer,
That is awesome news! I thought I was checking on all active threads so I don't know how I missed that big news. Also glad to hear that Im not the only one who had the Audi 5 SB as my number 2 car. No one in videos, articles, or on this forum, has mentioned either the A5 or S5 sportback as a competitor. The Audi might have been no. 1 to me, except the exorbitant price and even more important, its lack of fake vents!

MY CONSPIRACY THEORY MANIFESTO
By T. Burns

Are you a professor? You sound like my colleagues at my University, locked up helplessly in a white ivory tower. Do you also believe 95% of Politicians don't take bribes and that journalists rarely tell lies to sensationalize. I guess its all true that the G70 functional side vent is practically the same as a fake snorkel hood scoop staring at me through the windshield. I didn't mention but half of the gaggy outlandish statements such as "The fanciful grille is also marred by a clear plastic rectangle required for adaptive cruise control. Adding a front license plate will compound the clutter." There were a few compliments in the article, all followed immediately by backhanded insults.

When I read that magazine article it was so far off from the thirty other articles I have read (as well as videos watched). Not all of them gushed on with compliments, but none of the others made one after another after another bogus statements. I do not feel this way about any other magazine and this is not the first bogus article I have read in Road and Track magazine.
I guess that you think I am a conspiracy theory character that has just imagined the German bread and butter advertising over the years and lack of Genesis, Kia, or Hyundai ads. Certainly this would have no influence on these lovely dregs of life.
Shame on me!!!
Mark up another righteous victory for Devellis the honorable.

P.S. You know Im just having a little fun with you. I really don't even feel that strongly about this entire subject. I really could care less, but I feel that I have been challenged to a duel. I would challenge LarryMG1 for calling me fake biased, however his picture of a cute grim reaper is highly intimidating me.

Good call. I'm a retired professor, actually, (UNC Chapel Hill).

Wow, that is amazing. I thought I could detect that professorial commentary. UNC is the big league. I teach at little ole Univ. of North Georgia.

Well, that reviewer is really shape/design-challenged.

The most common comparison (for the grille) has been Audi, as both Genesis (as well as Hyundai) and Audi use a hexagonal-shaped grille, but all too often it has been backwards as Hyundai was doing the hexagonal-shape before Audi (and numerous other auto-makers also use that shape on some or all of their models).

For certain models, Audi has tried to change things up by going w/ an octagonal-shaped grille, but they're not the only one as Ford (which also uses the hexagonal shape) has done it as well.

As for the Alfa grille, the closest has been Subaru w/ the departed Tribeca (pre-refresh).

That's just asinine, as Kia (for the Stinger and K900) is using the platform family developed for Genesis.

Now, if they said Hyundai - well, every Genesis is a Hyundai, just like every Lexus is a Toyota and every Infiniti a Nissan (well, some Lexus and Infiniti models are more BMW and MB than Toyota or Nissan).

Disagree with this review...some incorrect facts...and stupid statements. Author lost me in the beginning about the utterly idiotic comment about the yoga people walking by. Like either of them knew what it was.

Road & Track...

2019 Genesis G70: The Road & Track Test
Road&Track did say that it was tested on a very hot 100 degree weather. These turbos (not only Genesis but turbo based from other manufacturers) are sensitive to air temp and density. Turbos perform badly in hot weather but very good in cold weather. They probably didn't spend enough time on the car to get to know and how to use its potential. They probably didn't use the launch control either. Even more importantly, this might be one of those fully loaded ones considering the tested vehicle in their article was only 200 lbs lighter. More options = More Weight. Less option = Mean Performance. Car&Driver did get this car to 4.3 sec 0-60 already.

Don't think I've seen this review listed. Not sure how in the dozens and dozens of searches this one didn't simmer up before.

The guy digs away at some somewhat unusual things compared to a lot of reviewers but it sounds like I'd probably get along better with his wife than him. :-D

Thanks.

The guy is a total tool. He lost me when he referenced the Giulietta.

First...it doesn’t exist in North America. So I know he was trying to say Giulia. No excuse for an error like that.

His wife rocks.
