  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G80 Most Reported Problems Log

My car has the transmission braking, but it's not abrupt - but I do think it's more pronounced now than when I bought the car. It's a 2019 with the 3.8, but only 15k miles.

I use this "feature" to save on braking, I can prevent it by keeping on the gas a bit. I can easily roll up to a red light and not touch the brakes until I'm going 5 mph - literally. Look at how long my brakes will last!

My prior car, an Infiniti G37 did this, so I'm pretty used to it.

Also posted in its own thread but thought I'd add to this one.

Took delivery of the beautiful car on July 9 2021. Less than 2900 miles on it. Driver seat functions are dead. No movement, no ventilation - nothing. Wife can't drive the car as seat is too far back and it is her car. Side mirrors do not actuate for reverse and sometimes do not collapse when locked. Battery is going dead if car not started daily. 2 trips to jump the car by Genesis/AAA this week. Selected Driver presets for A/C controls do not work. Media controls and buttons/mouse are glitchy on dash. Engine light came on while driving 2 days ago. Did not come on today. Remote start with app does not work. Remote start with fob works sometimes. Moving car forward/backward with fob results in car engine quitting. Genesis diagnostics show everything is operating normally. I am sure I have missed some of the glitches we have seen. Problems have been increasing and started out as intermittent. Most expensive disappointment ever.

Have an appointment to take it to a dealer for service Friday. Praying they keep their word and have a loaner car available as dealer is 120 miles away. The closest dealer would not call us back when we called for service appointment and they are 100 miles away.

Keeping a log with pics and videos.

Any suggestions my friends?
I totally agree on that opinion!

DryHeat's post was from Sept 2021, but maybe he'll provide an update.

I feel so bad for you. I have a '21 G80 Prestige AWD Turbo V6 and have not had one single problem, zero, zilch, nada. I picked the car up in March '21 and to date, I have only 4000 miles on the beast but I love it. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to use the self parking feature. I know, read the directions, but I just can't get it to work. I have been driving for over 50 years and I know how to park but it is annoying that the feature is there but doesn't seem to work. I am a systems engineer with experience in fixing previously unfixable problems, but this one is driving me nuts!

Anyone else have this experience?

BIG problem... We had lots of snow here on Long Island. Used my gentle snow brush to clear the car starting from the front and moving to the back. When I got to the back, the darn trunk opened because I had the key fob in my pocket and left a load of snow in my trunk. 2021 G80 AWD 3.5T Prestige

How do I disable the trunk from opening if I somehow hang out behind or near the trunk?
Unlock the car.

I will be keeping a record (unofficially) of what problems 2021 Genesis 3.5T AWD Prestige owners have.

Your input is important because there are so few of us!

Thanks for your time,

Lou

Dear Lou,
My navigation has completely gone haywire. It lags and turns off all the safety features when it comes to lane change assistance. I took it in for a service and they told me it is covered under warranty so they can replace with a new one but it takes a month and a half for it to come in. This has been a total nightmare.

I guess i should be the first one or unlucky one.
Sometime it does it.. happened 2 times.. attached. Drove about 6000 miles now.
*2021 g80 prestige 3.5
Windshield Washer bottle broke... in the dealer shop for 3 days now. called them, it seems They dont know where my car is. Haha. Told me to call them on monday... thats 6 days...
promised loaner car 2 weeks before, got there no loaner..
Problem is dealer service.. luxury is not there.
Dont even pickup call or return call.

*2021 gv80 2.5 advanced..200 mile on it.
Tire sensor went down to 39 to 17. Came back 39 about 5 minute later. Just once (dealer said some kind radio or interception did it. Like airplane ..haha...hmm...
(maybe alien.....??)

Complementary valet service is BS in my area.. they said TOO FAR.. too busy... i kind of knew this since 2015 equus, they only did once for my boss...dropped NiSsan rogue...keke. . I REALLY know, because i was the one called them and try to setup.. many many times... failed every time..
Dealer was 5 minute away from my office.. sooo far away... TooFar? .
so i didnt count on that first place ANYWAY..
I guess long warranty on hyundai cars, they have too many to fix..

I REALLY WISH THEY DO BETTER..
COMING FROM 15 YEAR 9 LEXUS... MOST SERVICE DONE IN 1 AND HALF HOURS. NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED. $5 DOLLAR LOANER CAR..

MAYBE I SHOULD NOT COMPARE. TOO LATE...hahaha

MY Conclusion
Hyundai terrible service makes up with cheaper maintenance cost..
Not even half the price, compare to lexus dealer service. Maybe they should think about charge more for faster service?? , for who need it..while i hate to pay for that sh*T..
what if i had only one car? 6 days without no car?
But genesis drives nice... =)
I feel the same about the maintenance. Im currently frustrated with my head unit but I feel like the maintenance department is a far step down from other car companies. Very unacceptable when selling cars that is $60k and up.

I have a 21 G80 Prestige AWD and have had no issues whatsoever. I previously owned a 2016 G80 Prestige and a 2018 G80 Sport and was equally fortunate with those. I couldn't be happier with the Genesis brand, and I've owned many similarly fine cars over the years (Jag, Infiniti [2], Lexus [3], Lincoln [2], Caddy [2], etc). While I've been lucky enough to never get a lemon and have had very few mechanical issues or complaints with any of the cars I've owned over my 75 years, Genesis is the label I've recommended the most to friends and colleagues.

Sorry to hear others are having problems, but let's recognize that the nature of forums such as this one is that most folks who are problem-free tend not post. We are most likely going to hear from people who are less than happy with their purchases. IMHO, Genesis is among the most reliable mid-higher range vehicles on the market - with the understanding that a percentage of every brand name vehicle will have problems.

I have had my 2021 G80 Prestige 3.5 for just over a year. Bought it CPO with about 3K miles. Long time Lexus, Audi and Mercedes owner here. So far I have been very impressed with the G80. The only issue I have is with the very poor Genesis Connect experience. For some reason it thinks my car is used in adverse conditions and tells me I need service in about 1/2 the time/miles for normal service. Yes I have verified the settings on the car and online are correct (normal driving). The dealer has done this also and so has the help desk at Genesis. The dealer finally did a hard re-boot of the system on the car and it appears this fixed the issue on the car. However the car and online never appear to be in agreement on my service interval, online does not line up with what the manual says on service intervals, it's less miles/time, even for non-adverse driving conditions - I have resorted to keeping track of it in the spreadsheet I use for the rest of my cars - this has been very annoying and took almost 6 months to get to a partial solution. That said my dealer in Cincinnati has been amazing - as good or better than my experiences at the local Lexus, Audi and Mercedes stores. Great customer service, gave me a G70 for a loaner etc. They are going through a major renovation (sells Hyundai and Acura also). For sure not as "pretty/luxurious as the other 3 high line brands I use - but honestly I could care less as long as they keep up the great service I have been getting to date. They have a dedicated team that interfaces with Genesis owners, which I appreciated since they specialize in just my brand.

Agree seat massager is so-so, but then again I really don't have the need for a butt massage. But the back massager combined with with heated seat works great for a sore / tired back. Have not tried the self parking. If I understand the feature correctly, you must get out of the car and use the remote to "self park" the car? Really not sure why I would want to do that? Maybe someone could chime in and explain. Yes, I know this is off the original poster's topic but ........
You also have the option of remaining in the car. Once you have confirmed the space you keep your finger on the camera button.

I am one of a handful of owners in the UK who own a Electrified G80.
In getting on for a year in July, I have to say the car is utterly reliable, and its always a serene place to spend time driving.

Couldn't agree more. The G80 is my 5th EV since my first EV, a Tesla MS, and it's the one I enjoy the most. The $7,500 federal rebate we used to get for these EVs made it easy to buy & sell an EV with little to no cash consequence.

The HUD is money. Once you get used to it there's no going back.
Unless you live in Sunny AZ and wear Polarized Sunglasses.. My fault I know...

Seem to have a couple computer related sporadic problems.

1. Sometimes when I start the car I get a BSD warning indicting that Blind Spot Detection is not working properly. When this happens, the driver side mirror cannot be adjusted and it won't fold in or out. If I shut off the car, open and close the door and restart the car, the problem goes away.

2. When it is colder than ~60 degrees F. The driver side mirror will not unfold as you approach the car, and will not fold when you lock the car. It still works with the control button and works normally in warm weather.

3. Very Sporadic problems with the Heat/AC vents. On one warm day it was blowing warm air on one side of the car and cold on the other side. On another occasion the fan was running like crazy but no air was coming out. Apparently the vents were closed off somewhere behind the dash. Shutting off the car, walking away and coming back a little later resolved the problem.

Of course these are the sort of problems a dealer can never duplicate. Not even worth the trip.

2018 G80 5.0 Ultimate.

Personally I never used the folding mirrors unless I had no choice in a parking lot. Found they were unnecessary and just another item prone to problems.

I've noticed that on my 2021 G80 3.5T Prestige AWD, where the Navigation screen is showing my GPS location (Longitude/Latitude), and Elevation (feet) - while I was sitting in the Teller line at my bank recently (transmission in Park), my Elevation went from 108 ft., to 115 ft., to 121 ft., and finally reached 128 ft., within a 3.5 minute period . . . and I wasn't even smoking anything!

Nope, no vents closed off. What is happening is that the evaporator is icing over. It can happen with high humidity and lower cooling loads. You can reduce the chances of it happening by selecting recycle. Once it happens, you can clear it in a few minutes by turning the compressor off and leaving the fan on.
You may be slightly low on refrigerant, which makes this more likely to happen.
