Genesis Official Pricing.........

Does anyone know when we can expect Hyundai to release the official pricing for the Genesis Sedan? I have had some local dealers say they have been given choices of what colors and options that they would want delievered to their dealerships out of what is called a car pool when they arrive in the U.S. Its not like ordering them, just what their preference is for what they would like to see at their dealership. It doesn't mean they will get what they want but is simply their preference. They said this is being done and they have not been given any official price information yet. I guess from what I have been told by the dealers they may start to see the V-6 versions sometime in June. If that is the case you would think right about now the pricing would be released for those who would want to special order them. I have heard the V-8 sedans will follow later on although I wished that all of them would begin coming at the same time. I keep thinking with such a unique chance to have a V-8 again, with the added fun factor, is the only way to go. It shouldn't be to bad on fuel mileage tied to a 6 speed transmission I wouldn't think. I invite anyone to comment and answer any of my questions here and lets get the Genesis sedans rolling in here. First year out doesn't concern me coming from Hyundai. I bought a 2006 Azera loaded and its been flawless and its a wonderful car in its on right. Thanks all members!!! Duaine

First of all, welcome aboard.

As for V8, I would want them to keep testing it a bit more to make sure it does well. The more time the better. Remember, it's Hyundai's first EVER V8, and they have to take extra care and test them out fully before shipping it outside of Korea. You NEVER want to see the V8 engine fails on its first year, right? nor you want to see a garbage that has been overhyped to be making it to US. I also think it would have been better to release the V8 in the home market Korea first as well, so that they can test to see if there are any errors or reliability issues and correct them first before they bring it here. I know, Korean market isn't really that big nor popular for a such large engine like this and aside from few select filthy rich people in Korea, who actually buys European imports instead, it's pretty much useless there, not like North America where big engines has a lot of fans and enthusiasts. Part of the reason there are way more small car models in Korea than midsize and on cars cruising in the street. I know, North America is no better right now due to ridiculously high gas prices that's keep going up, but....

Sure, it's nice to have choices on its first year, but if I am in the market for that segment, and if it is like the Hyundai, whose V8 engine is their definate first, I would rather wait to see how it does rather than go right ahead and risk my money on something that may or may not do well.

Well, that's how I see it. For V6, I am pretty confident, for they are more experienced on it and the smaller engines, but V8, needs to be watched with a bit more patience for now.

Welcome aboard, Duaine! And thank you for signing up. I'm not quite sure when the official pricing will be released - but you're on track with everything you've said. Keep in mind that the V6 is going to have 300+ horsepower - so it's going to feel like a V8. I can surely understand why you might want nearly 100 more horsepower, though.

I'm happy to hear that you're so satisfied with your Azera! You're obviously into luxury cars.

Unfortunately, manufacturer's "official" price doesn't seem to mean much anymore. The final price of the vehicle will level out through market demand. We have all seen cases of severe dealer markup on some highly desired vehicles and hefty dealer reductions and incentives on less desired offerings.

I seriously doubt that there are going to be many buyers willing to pay full MSRP on a Hyundai no matter how nice it appears on the surface. I suspect that even the top-of-the-line Genesis will have to be discounted to sell in any significant numbers.

A 300 hp V6 is a fairly powerful engine; but let's not forget that it is torque that moves weight. The Genesis sedan is no flyweight and will be significantly faster with the increased torque of the Tau V8 propelling it through the lower rpm range.

Well well well,
I wanted official pricing for a couple reasons...........one so that you don't have the different versions such as the 4.6 with tech package price saying approximately $39,500- $41,000. I want it down to the cent so then you can get to the bottom of things. I have yet in my life to pay more than invoice for a car. Sometime's its less depending on hold backs or monthly dealer incentives. Now someone will say well then you won't get anything for your trade. Sometimes I sell cars myself. But if not I don't talk about the new car price.........I don't talk about used car price. Its wasting your time as they just play games with the price of both. I don't bother telling the dealer what I will pay for their car or what I want for mine. Its a total waste of your time. Oh sure I figure it all out very carefully from all the information I can gather. But you don't need to tell them that. The only concern that there should be is what you are going to pay for the difference between the two. This narrows things up and doesn't give them the option of playing with two prices but instead focus on one. Now you might have to have patience. You might have to walk out and see what happens. You would be surprised how many times I had no sooner gotten home from a dealer than I had a call telling me to come on back in. Some times its a few days later. Once in awhile not at all. Point is you do what you can to save money. So yes the retail price is a joke but its becomes at least a guideline. So I hope someone understands why I asked that question.
Second, do people know what Hyundai builds? You will find that not only do they build their cars, they build many of the machines that build their cars, many of the trucks that hauls their cars, and even some of the ships that bring them here. They build all kinds of construction equipment. I haven't done exact research but I would be willing to bet that they do build V-8 engines. They may not be in a car but maybe a truck or some form of construction equipment. It may not be gasoline powered but possibly diesel. Also a V-8 engine is no mystery to the universe. A V-6 engine afterall is 3/4 of a V-8 engine. Have you ever heard anyone say back when V-8's were king, oh my gosh they are thinking of coming out with a V-6, they have never built one, how will they know how? Its a completly different engine! It's just to risky. Even after saying that if all us fails look at the warranty Hyundai has. Now if they said that the V-8 engine only we are only covering with a warranty of 3yr./36000 miles than I would say I smell a rat. And even after all this I don't totally dissagree with you. I will watch carefully the information come in but not for long. I bought my 2006 Azera first year out, my 2000 Sonata after they changed it, and a 2002 Sonata after a significant change. Each I drove 2 years and my Azera now for about 2 1/2 years and all performed flawlessly. Your concerns are noted but I have every confidence in Hyundai's abilities. That is one reason that your now seeing their car prices move closer and closer towards the competition's.

When I found out exactly how many different things were built by Hyundai, I was impressed. I think they even have a chain of food stores now. They're into everything in South Korea. They're a smart company. They can build anything they want. They've said it before - that they can build any car they want now...

I agree. Pricing should be released very soon. And in my opinion, the high-end models should always come first, ie V8, as Chrysler is doing with the Challenger. Let me assure you, if anyone is chomping at the bit to get behind the wheel of the V8 Genesis, it is me. I will do my best to pass along any info I get as quickly I get it. Fortunately for the consumer, most news like pricing is released to the press first and we find out from them. So you may see it on Jalopnik before you hear it from me.

I am not worried about the engineering end of the engine at all. Hyundai has proven themselves to be perfectly capable of building a durable engine. My only concern is that Hyundai will be vulnerable to substandard parts from suppliers just like Toyota with the 5.7l cams in the Tundras and Ford with the 6.0l Powerstroke. I am certain that they will stand behind their product, though. We will just have to wait and see.

A very valid concern.. Only time will tell.. Hopefully all parties get everything right..
