  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got hit in Costco's parking lot. $1500 to fix it. Collex did a good job, but the right-rear bumper trim strip does not match well with the rear trim strip. Collex says the parts (the new trim strip) often do not match all that well.

Safe to assume your dealer doesn't have a body shop? Or that their price was double what you payed?
I'm not familiar with Collex.

I had the same experience with the body shop that my local dealership uses for all their bodywork. I was hit from behind, and the rear bumper and a few of the trip pieces were replaced. I didn't have any pictures from before, but it appears to me that the trim doesn't line up very well.

If someone could take a photo of their original, non-damaged (repaired) rear bumper with trunk open (showing trim piece/gasket), it would be greatly appreciated.

Did you request only the use of OEM parts for the repair? I was asked by my insurance company when my car was in the shop for repair if I would be ok with NON-OEM parts. I almost laughed, but said only to use OEM Hyundai parts.

This may make a difference in fit in finish....

Don't accept a car until the bodywork and paint are as good as new. I have sometimes left a car at the shop for 2 or more weeks until they got it right.

In my case, I confirmed with my local Hyundai Parts Manager that the appropriate oem parts were ordered from him. I didn't accept the work on my first visit, and they redid a few things before I would accept it. The bumper appears new now, it's just the rubber gasket/weather strip going around the bumper that appears to be off, but I don't have anything to base it on (photo proof). You only see this when the trunk is open thankfully.

Could you snap a picture of yours so I can try to duplicate the angle/distance for ease of comparison?

Could you tell anything from my picture? If not I will try zooming to certain spot if you prefer. Sorry, the car really needs a bath.

Thanks so much. If it's not too much trouble, if you could zoom in more that would be awesome. Especially closer to the where the trunk latch/gasket/bumper meet up. Really appreciate it.
