  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just came across an ebay merchant offering a performance chip for the 2009/2010 Genesis Sedan. It does not specify if it is for the the 3.8 or 4.6 engine.

I plan on contacting this merchant and see what engine it is meant to be installed in. I'll post back with the reply.

These are the benefits they are claiming:

Up to 15 MPG - improved fuel efficiency

50+ horsepower
50+ FT/LB of torque
Improved acceleration

Smoother throttle response through RPMs
Improved top end power
Smoother shifting
Better low end torque
Improved towing capacity
Smoother power throughout the powerband

Extends the life of engine spark plugs
Extends the life of engine oil
Extends the life of engine belts
Improved engine performance extends the time between costly engine tune-ups and check-ups.

Has anybody tried this particular one? Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.ca/2in1-PERFORMANCE-CHIP-HYUNDAI-GENESIS-2009_W0QQitemZ140356318853QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item20ade37685

It's not a chip, it's a diode (as you can see by the negative feedback). The way they usually work is to fool the air intake sensor so that the ECU thinks the fuel mix needs to be richer than it normally would be. Net result is a few more HP with worse emissions.

As for the MPG claims, if manufacturers could do anything to make higher MPG *and* more HP at the same time without exceeding emissions targets for a few bucks, I'm pretty sure they would do it. That's because as soon as one company did it, every company would. Unless you subscribe to the conspiracy theory about the government, auto companies, and the oil industry. And even then, every company and government in the world would need to be in on it.

So unless you want to risk voiding your warranty for the unlikely possibility of a miracle performance boost, I'd say steer clear.

Thanks for the response Dataguy. I checked out the sellers feedback and found that he is not selling a performance chip as he claims in the the ad. There are a few people that he suckered into buying the gizmo he is selling that are really disappointed with it. Others plain warn you that it is a scam.

As you suggest, I'll be staying real clear of this one. Thanks Again

The point that sparked my interest was the increased fuel economy.. I guess my next mod will be a K & N filter.

My service manager says no to the k/n filter, some cars have had a problem
with the oil soaked filter. So I nixed it!

Simply swapping to a K&N air filter is going to make little to no difference in the performace of your car. You would only feel it if the filter was totally clogged, otherwise the computer is totally controlling air flow. To make a meaningful change you would have to change the whole intake housing and filter, change the settings on the computer through the OBDII then add a cat back exhaust system to reduce back pressue. Even change the headers if you're so inclined. My point is....an engine is simply an air pump, you have to open up both intake and exhaust if you want more performance.

Until someone can defeat the ECS, you can't enjoy any of that power. the nanny already hits the brakes in 1/2 gear under full throttle. and you are gov'd at the top end, So the perf mods, if they work. might give you some passing speed in 3rd gear.....

EXACTLY! The ONE thing I want is the ability to fully disable the ESC (which includes a traction control component). I don't need more power; I need a way to take full advantage of the power I already have. :D
