  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Re-badging: The Movie!

just bought one yesterday, excellent video.

might i add one thing. by using denatured alcohol as opposed to the multi-surface cleaner and goo-gone you can eliminate the two step process at the end after removing the physical emblem. the denatured alcohol works awesome. it will not damge the paint it will remove all adhesives, even smaller chunk pieces you would think you need to pick off, waxes and evaporates instantly.

i also would suggest you ONLY use fishing line or some type of plastic coated string (or floss) like the op as anything else will leave fine scratches requiring additional compounding for no reason. things i have found out the hard way over 22 years of removing emblems from my cars/trucks.

and remember without a hairdryer or heat gun you will be picking adhesive chunks off for an hour unless the car is in the sun.

Thanx for the tip - denatured alcohol... took care of the adhesive in quick order.

The Genesis is sporting wings!

Nice tip on the alcohol. Will be sure to use it!

Got my emblems in the mail today, but no Genesis to put them on yet! :(

Quick question - for those without a Dremmel tool.... how do you remove the little posts at the back of the hood badge?

What is quickest way to get rebadge kit and airbag delivered? I may be able to make a deal on an '11 next week and in anticipation of that, would like to have expedited kit sent to me so that I can hand to dealer for installation prior to pick up.

I asked my new Korean friend (I don't know the guy, LOL) if he could add more of those emblem kits on his ebay account - let me see what he says. I ordered the badges on 4/18. On 4/21, my e-check cleared on Paypal. I received the badges today (4/28) - that's ONE WEEK for the parts... I would venture to guess that other parts can be had with similar results in the future, not sure.

I'll keep you posted ;)

Thanks. Sounds promising. According to when I can make the deal on the car, I would spring for expedited handling if that were possible. Don't want to put cart in front of horse just yet. My neighbor is the internet guy for Brad Benson Hyundai and I spoke to him about an hour ago. He will have a salesman call me tomorrow and if we can agree on a number, I will pull the trigger. I will update ASAP.

PS
KDM told me today a week for delivery also. I also called seoulfracing in West Chester PA and left a message. They do installs and may items in stock. I am in Central NJ and they are about an hour or so from my location.

If you can't borrow one... do you know any Gunsmiths? Within their workshop... they can help you... its a 5 minute job.

Used a small cutting stone on the Dremel... was just smaller than the post iteslf.
Holding the Dremel tool perpendicular to the badge... slowly insert the tool thru the middle of the post... and start to cut from the inside to the outer edge.. removing the post.

Once cut down after the first pass... use the flat face to smooth down the cut edges... easy.

Just make sure the trimmed portion is below the surface of the adhesive strip.

you should talk to al Machado at Lester Glenn before you make the purchase. he (and the owner) guarantee me they will beat any and all deals. tell them Tony who just bought the black on black 4.6 sent you and i bet they do the right thing.

One small aspect left out in the earlier post...

Using a claybar to finish the prep work before putting the wings on the trunk.
[After the original emblem and adhesive is removed... had a residual image of the Flying H oxidized on the paint... the claybar took care of that.]

tonyghp-Kind of boxed in to a point because my neighbor sells for Benson. However business is business and if I can get a new number, I will follow up on your suggestion.

Can you disclose price paid? If not, no problem and I will assume it is in the lower range what has previously been disclosed by others.

Disregard the price request. Read your post in another thread. Thanks.

I let the hot sun shine in back of the car for 10 minutes and used a 10LB nylon fish line and worked it back and forth like a sawing action and it fairly easily went through the existing adhesive. It was really simple. My car is a 2012, so that sure might make it easier.

I rebadged my GC but I'm NOT rebadging my 2012 Sedan. I'm PROUD that it's a Hyundai.

The only way to start to change the "bu, bu, but it's a Hyundai!" meme is to proudly sport the Slanted 'H'!

I just did the rebadge on my White 2012 3.8 Tech yesterday. Everything went smooth as butter. It was 23 degrees F, but I pulled out the old heat gun and use weed whacker cord. There was a lot of residue, but by heating it up and rubbing with my finger I was able to remove most of it. Then I used goo-gone to finish it off.

I also did the wheels with the replacement hubs and that was 5 min of easy work.

The steering wheel badge just went right over the original and looks great..

As a new owner this helps me out, where is the best place to get the both badges?

Just finished the rear deck emblem replacement, not going to do the hood, Not many cars with no logo on the front & I like it like that.

The 5 lb fishing line worked great once I had ~4 strands of it. I have to say the original logo had a pile of adhesive on it. I had to use the fingernail method until I could get to the point of using the goof off, there may have been a better method in the thread but I did not read all of it.

I did find it interesting that the Hyundai logo was two round posts while the Genesis logo had one round post and one oval to fit the holes in the trunk.

Thanks for the original post on how to do this - it was a big help!
