  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hopefully, we are all allowed to decide for ourselves which threads we frown on. I already mentioned this one, and why I frown on driving at 100 mph on public roads, but I do believe you have a right to post whatever you want. I would request the same courtesy from you.

Maybe coincidently (or maybe not) I would also probably frown on your thread about carrying a gun while driving, but I didn't even respond to that that thread, so I did restrain myself that time.

I'm not taking sides, but I thought the "gun carrying" question was pretty legit. If you're not into firearms, then I can understand why you would think the thread was useless.

Just an FYI to all non gun owners.... there are more people out there than you think carrying... next time your in a restaurant look around... someone in that place has a loaded pistol and you don't even know it.

I realize it is legal in many states if one has a permit, but I am not sure it is a good idea to carry a gun when driving simply becasue some people can get emotional when driving (usually for good reason). I certainly have no objection to having a firearm at home.

If one has a habit of speeding, then it might be a really bad idea to carry a gun on one's person if one is stopped by the police.

I lived in Texas for 25 years and never noticed anyone carrying a gun (other than law enforcement).

I think the morality of speeding is a separate subject, where those who are against speeding can chime in. It is off topic and adds nothing to the discussion.

The subject of this post is not morality, but comments on the fact that the V-8 Genesis accelerates faster (ultimately) than a SHO, though only at higher speeds.

In this regard, my experience is that the Genesis V-8 is severely restricted by torque management in first gear. What this means is that its 0-60 time is far greater than its true potential. Roll-ons are a different matter, particularly above 50 mph where the variable camshafts crank it on.
I have not experimented with turning off the ESC to determine if this turns off torque management in first gear. Does it?

I drive at over 120 mph each day, carry a gun and shoot at pencil dicks that post stupid threads on this site that don't even own the car. But to each his own-- Peace Brother-- I also love Muslims and members of Congress and President Obama-- Oh and Nancy baby- I love you too. Ten more years Nancy and Barbara. You're the best. California and the US are flourishing under your guidance.

I'm sorry. Did I get off topic? My apology--

You think that getting t-boned and decapitated by street racers doing 100 mph is great? Or was it the 100 people killed in CA alone each year (probably 1000 nationally) by street racers that is great? Which one?

I think the thread is great!

Each second you step foot out the door either to walk down the street or hop in your car to grab a bite to eat you are taking a chance at getting killed whether by a mad gunman, a runaway car, or some freak accident like a neighbors lawn mower blade coming off and cutting off your pinkie finger.

Mark, what happened in your life is unfortunate and sad and I pay my respect to the friends and family who were a part of this.

Street racing is real, its a part of life and I have yet to see any law enforcement that can control it...the same with drugs, alcohol, and sex. Honestly, they never will. With that said, if you see lights coming at you rather quickly...PULL OVER, get out of the way or stomp it and join them!

I mean, lets be real here. Racing should be at a track at all times but when I see a 30 year old next to me in a Mustang GT and he gives me the eye...you had better believe that I am going to give it all I have. Thats me, thats my life...its what I do. Granted...no one is in the car with me and I WILL hit the brakes in plenty of time. I usually only race to the speed limit and shut her down...but if the stretch of highway is wide open...so am I.

Call me stupid, insane, nuts or whatever but ultimately, I will take full responsibility for my actions whether here on earth or when I meet my Lord and Savior...as every one of us will.

I live as if today is my last!

NOW...with that being said, lets put aside our snide comments and our ego's and just discuss the topic at hand...the SHO vs. GENNY!

I left my post for Mark_888, in response to his post...out of respect for the friends he knew who were killed in an unfortunate accident.

We just need to be careful of what we post. What some may think is harmless...others take offense to.
Forgive my bluntness.

Sorry...I just cleaned this thread up.

Let stay on topic....please!

For what its worth, Mark_888, this THREAD is great...not the loss of life.

Funny that you compare the V8 to the SHO - the aggressive ratios of the Genesis V6 are one of the reasons it performs so close to the V8 - punchy gearing vs additional power.

Brady...Explain the "restriction plate elimination"

And how do you come up with your hp figure? Dyno?

Thanks

Scott

I am very disappointed that you censored my post (again). I think that I raised a legitimate issue. i.e., that it is very unlikely that anyone will be accelerating from 0-100 MPH on a public road. It is also highly illegal to do such activities on a public street. I don't mean "speeding" (like going 80 in a 70 zone) but I mean 100 mph, which as someone else pointed out, will land one in jail in many states. Such behavior should not be condoned by anyone, and criticism of such behavior should not be censored.

If I were the owner of this forum I would be very concerned, because the actions of one moderator here has opened them up to legal liability should anyone who reads this forum be involved in a incident when driving at 100 mph, where it clearly appears that this forum has a policy of encouraging such actions, and that the forum has a policy of deleting any posts which advise against it (and/or point out that many innocent people have been killed by such actions).

I noticed that when comparing specs. Gearing has a very real effect. I never did get to try a V6 though as the dealer didn't have any.

The comments were opened up but the discussion is closed. Street racing happens but you can't talk about it without upsetting somebody. Just like politics. There are some discussions that just need to be worded differently. We live in a very politically correct world. This shouldn't be new to anyone.

Have I street raced? Yes, I have. It happens. I don't weave in and out of traffic like an 18-year old idiot. In the past, I've raced on clear streets either late at night or early in the morning when the road was empty.

Street racing IS illegal and we don't condone it here. However, I would not be responsible if everyone on earth here on in died in a street race because they read about it on Genesis Owners dot com. Ultimately, YOU are all responsible for what you post here. Not me. So, Mark - I don't plan on getting my attorney involved.

Subject closed.
