  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Sedan with Trailer Hitch

I have used this site for many hitches and bike racks. Put on just a few months ago on my friends Ford Fusion. Never did one on the Genesis, but doesn't look to difficult. The instructions have always been very good.

My wife has a Yakima Bike Rack on her Genesis.... It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But, I'm glad it's not on mine!:D

It works pretty good and is detachable. Here is the link to what she got. She did a lot of research and I believe this is the best out there for the Genesis. She got the model that holds 2 Bikes.

So she has a hitch on her Genesis? Which hitch is on the car? Did you install or have a shop install the hitch?

She had U-Haul install it.

How do you like it, is it too obtrusive? or is it more like the one in the above link? I'm going to have to upgrade to a new wheel chair so I'm planning on putting a lifting ramp on the back of my '13.

Lost my Pathfinder to another kid starting to drive.
Anyone have a trailer hitch on their sedan?
My use will be for a bicycle trailer hitch.

No way i can put a regular bike rack on my paint job.
Need a way to get my bike to the trails!

Have you tried Hitchweb? They have inexpensive hitches for sale with lifetime warranty. Here is the link if you wanted to have a look: Hyundai Genesis Trailer Hitches

I had u-haul install my hitch and the wiring....works great!

I find that I can carry my bike in the trunk if I remove both wheels. The frame is a 60 cm.

You could always get a roof rack too, Yakima and Thule both make systems that fit the Genesis.
I looked into the hitch stuff, but I think it was pretty expensive for the install and the roof rack gives me an option to carry Christmas trees and mattresses, lol.

I like that, two bicyclists parked in front of a doughnut shop! :)

There is a YouTube video installing a receiver on an 2009

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiSqJl2mG3Y

When I take my wheels off, my bike fits in the trunk (along with the wheels)
I could probably fit some spares in there too.

I built one inside the spare tire well and install the receiver under the car when I need it which is seldom. So normally there is nothing to see or touch. The factory hitches are unsightly. My wife said I could install a hitch if she could not see it so that is what I did.

Would love to see pics of this. I have the UHaul hitch on my R-Spec and it does look funky.

How were costs for this? I looked into Rhino racks, and by the time you got attachments for bike and kayak, you're talking a lot of money.

Brand new it can get pretty pricey, but you can get used and you'll just need to buy the specific clips for the genesis (metal pieces that hold the towers inside the door opening for Yakima anyways I think it's like $90, not too sure about Thule. Based on new pricing you're looking at about $400 for the base rack system. Plus any attachments, like bike attachments that are shown. Those are the most expensive bike holders at about $250 each new, but I just buy them used. You have to spend a decent amount to get holders that you don't have to detach wheels for though.

Good to know, thanks!

True... but the trailer hitch allows me to get a trailer for 15.00 from U-haul for the day and can get damned near anything back home... drywall...plywood..Christmas Trees, gardening items... pretty handy.

was able to get quite a bit of rock from a local distributor for building the fish pond on my back yard... granted, I couldn't put 2 tonns in at once.. but a few loads at approx 1/2 ton each were doable. easily.

Yeah it all depends on what you want to use it for.
I wouldn't want to put my bikes on the back for heavy dust/dirt and rock chips while going down gravel roads. And if you want to carry snowboards it is a lot harder and more expensive/dirty with a hitch attachment than a roof rack.
But I can understand the use of just being able to hook up a trailer and carry whatever you want that way too.
Also a hitch attachment would be nicer for carrying bikes through underground parades, very low tree canopies etc.. always have to remember when you have bikes on the roof you can't do everything the same as usual.
And just another point about roof racks is they are completely removeable, and Thule and Yakima stuff will hold their value at around 60-80% of retail price for a number of years. So if you ever need to sell your car you can take it off and sell it, whereas a hitch I think wouldn't add any value, and if left on would probably detract from it.

pardon the crappy photos but here is my setup with the hitch.
