  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My '11 Genesis Sedan is sitting in my garage and will be their for at least 9 months. What are some of the things I will need to do to ensure it runs well when I get back to driving it. Was thinking of towing it to the dealer to have them service it and do a once over. Just want someone elses opinion on it.

Stabil fuel stabilizer. And you might want to consider a higher viscosity oil for a little while so it doesnt settle quite as badly off the heads. You should probably put it on blocks or jack stands to avoid tire flat spotting

+1

Store my car in the winter every year. Haven't put it on jack stands, but am going to from here on. I have summer tires, which are more prone to getting flat spots after sitting for periods of time vs all season tires. Matter of fact, I will be starting the car tonight for the 1st time since last year, and bring car into dealer for a oil change and coolant flush and brake fluid TSB tomorrow morning.

EDIT - I also use a trickle charger hooked up to the jumping posts under the hood.

Thanks I will try all those but why the higher viscosity oil?

Just because oil settles with time and the more viscous oil will allow it to coat the heads and valves a little better/longer for the first start up.

I use the dealership oil (because it's free) and my car say for 4 days. On my first start up, I had TERRIBLE valve slap until the oil reached operating temp. Trying to prevent that is the trick.

battery tender

- Jack Stands
- Battery tender
- Fuel Stabilizer

Also, I've seen people completely fill their crank case with oil to displace any possibility of moisture building in the system and to keep oil on everything. Before starting, they will drain and then refill with new oil to proper levels.

I may do this when I leave on my 6-month deployment next year.

This is a great idea

Hello, I have a 2012 R Spec that sits a lot. I was wondering if any of you are experiencing battery performance issues? For example, one week I drove the vehicle with no problems accumulated maybe 100 miles or plus. The following weekend the car did not start. There was not enough power in the battery to open the trunk and I was very thankful that the car doors were not locked. I let the battery charge over 24 hours and no problem with starting the vehicle. Currently, I have the battery charger set to maintain full charge (tender) until I can take to the dealer for a checkup.

I have a summer vehicle, and it sits for a good portion of the year. As others have said, Sta-Bil and a full tank of gas, jack stands to lift the tires off the ground, and a battery tender.

Further, I use the battery tender on the DD when it is not in use.

There it one item here that was only mentioned once. A full tank of gas. In aircraft that often run hard then sits for months guidelines say to fill the tanks to prevent condensation. Fuel stabilizer is great advice too. For your battery the brand name, Battery Tender, is the best battery maintance charger I have used. Very low draw when at full charge. To the poster mentioning a flat battery after sitting and intermittent use, it takes some time for your alternator to bring the battery up. If you just drive locally, and then let it sit for long periods get the battery tender.
